Commentary on 2011 Primary Election - Who Cares ???

I guess what yesterday's Election showed more than anything is just how little most people care about politics especially local Politics and elections.Only  around 18% of registered voters bothered to vote in election with some supposedly volatile issues and concerns. While there were no national or state races on the ballot there seemed to enough important issues on the table to warrant a better turnout for yesterday's primary. Until the public becomes better educated and better informed and develops an interest. We can expect to continue to get the poor leadership and waste of our tax dollars that we have now.

Chatter Chicks II - Party Girls

The BatBlog's Election Eve Special
Welcome to HT's Election Eve Special with predictions and Analysis on tomorrow's Dem. & Rep..primaries. You won't find this kind of insight on politics and elections anywhere. Not on GAW or any other website. HT's keen political mind will break down each race, make his prediction and advice on votng.

A lot of intriguing questions in 2011. Is this the year of the woman ?? A lot of woman candidates with strong credentials are running. What about the "Kid with Game" ??? Young Matt Owen will older voters take young Matt serious ??? Is anti incumbency still going to be popular ??? How will the annexed voters vote and will they come out in strong numbers ?? Can Kevin (in Eleven) Vissing get 11% of the mayoral vote ?? Will the big sewer and tax bills doom Galligan ???
We'll find out tomorrow.....

  Lets look at the races:

Jeff City Council (at Large) 3 seats Rep.
E, Wayne Carter
Kathy Kennedy Bupp
Abraham (Abe) Navarro
Matthew C. Owen
Win Walker Jr.

HT thinks Navarro and Carter have 2 of the seats locked up. Well recognized names and Carter sits on the Council now appointed to replace Ron Grooms. HT says Carter and Navarro should and will win. The 3rd seat looks like a battle between Win Walker Jr.and the "Kid with Game" Matt Owen. Owen has gotten a lot of publicity in his short mayoral bid, is this enough to overcome his youth ?? Will older voter take him seriously ?? Walker has a well respected name in real estate circles. This may be enough to push him past young Matt Owen. HT says Walker will win but wouldn't be shocked if "The Kid with Game " pulls it off. He's very likable. If HT was voting GOP he would vote Navarro, Carter, and Owen.

Jeff City Council (at Large) 3 seats Dem.
Ronald H. Clark
Dennis Julius
Nathan Samuel
Dustin T. White

This should be an easy race to call Samuel, Julius,  and White  will win easily too much name recognition for . Julius has a lot of supporters by the volume of his political signs and Samuel an incumbent and the popular White are too strong.
HT will vote for Clark, White, Clark. HT concerned about if and how many  illegal aliens work for Julius' Walnut Ridge and HT doesn't vote for Julius and it's time for a clean sweep of the City Council

Jeff Council Dist.2 Rep.
Ed Zastawny
Pat Barrow

HT's upset special, Pat Barrow will defeat Ed Z. The hard working Barrow is a lady on a mission and it could be close as Ed Z. is a slick politician but it's time for a change and Pat will run in the Fall.

Jeff Council Dist. 3 Rep.
Janice Sinkhorn
Steve West

Tough one to call as HT knows very little about either candidate. Just a hunch bet here but  Ms. Sinkhorn will win in the "Year of the Woman"

Jeff Council Dist. 6 Dem.
Kimberly Kraft
Brian L. Smith

The seat for the newly annexed residents and Brian Smith should and will win . Smith has campaigned harder than Kraft and wins the chance to run in Nov. HT votes for Smith

Jeff Council Dist.6 Rep.
Bryan Glover
Stan Martin

Glover should win the GOP nomination and face Smith in the Nov. Election

Jeff Mayoral
Thomas R. Galligan
Teresa Bottorf Perkins
Kevin Vissing
Robert (Rob) L. Waiz

This is the big one and HT has gone back and forth about this race all season long. It's really tough to call with a four person race. It could be real close with the winner getting less than or around 40% of the Vote. If Perkins or Waiz were running separately I think either could defeat TG. HT feels that the 3 contenders are a real advantage for TG, (splitting the Vote). This may come as a surprise but HT feels like the split vote will carry Tom Galligan to the nomination to face Mike Moore in the Fall. I wouldn't be shocked if Waiz or Perkins won ,but I think the anti-Galligan vote is just too split for either to win. Kevin in 11 Vissing has about much a chance of winning as a mule does of winning the Kentucky Derby. But Vissing's 7 or 8 % he takesaway might be what puts Galligan over the top, which may have been the plan all along (a plant for Galligan..) Maybe KV can win Gasman of the year

HT will be voting for and fully endorses Teresa Bottorf Perkins, here's wishing her good luck. We need more of these professional, non tradition political types in government. She's ran a classy, professional , hard working campaign and it's time for a female Mayor of Jeff. I'm voting for her as is Mrs. HT and I hope my prediction is wrong.

* note only contested races were mentioned stay tuned to the Batblog for Nov, Election Coverage

What ever your choices are.

Don't Forget to Vote May 3

Exclusive to the BatBlog: Chatter Chicks Gone Wild

You won't find it on GAW or anywhere else on the internet only HT's  award winning Batblog has exclusive pictures and minutes from the latest meeting of Clark County;s own Chatter Chicks. The latest meeting is entitled "Chatter Chicks gone Wild"

Chatter Chicks' First Times
These are minutes from the first-ever supplemental meeting of the Chatter Chicks and will be released exclusively to the award-winning Bat-Blog for the first time.

In attendance were: Chopper Woman, Cindiloohoo, HoundDog, Happycat, Gabriella, Teresa Fisher, Mrs. Professor, GrumpyGranny, kelley, and, for their first times, roundots and overit.

Meeting was held Saturday afternoon at the uber-hospitable Charlestown Pizza Company.

There's no official record of the E-vil goings on at the beginning of the meeting since your humble minutes writer arrived late after enjoying the beautiful weather by riding around topless with Chopper Woman, but given the vast collection of empty beer bottles that amassed before our arrival, we can only assume the best. Let the record show kelley's hair was mussed upon arrival, another first.

The first order of business was to hand out Wands of E-vil to those in attendance. These have the power of making free beer samples appear. Thanks to Happycat for the provision of wands, especially since without I like squirrels in attendance, the Chicks needed another avenue for free drinks.

Chopper Woman moved that Teresa Fisher be named the wearer of the cutest tiara for her pink and bejeweled crown that Teresa astutely observed had wings, "like a Maxi-Pad." Motion passed. Cindiloohoo's black tiara was again selected as the most E-vil, and HoundDog won the award for Most Tasteful for her subtle yet bling-blingy silver selection.  Commitments were made by the slackers in attendance to get tiaras soon.

The educational segment of the meeting was devoted to checking out Cindi's fruity beer and sampling a Hoosier Wheat beer. Both come highly recommended by the Chicks.

In honor of past educational achievements, Cindi was presented with a t-shirt by Teresa that read, "Open. Now blowing." This minutes writer has no idea what that implies. Something about the wind? Birthday candles, maybe?

Resolutions were passed to give favorable local reviews to the CPC and to continue to hold meetings at locally-owned establishments.

The most important first at this meeting was the first official Chatter Chicks Act of E-vil. The Center for Lay Ministries will receive at least $300 dollars in donations this week from the Clark County Chatter and its underground auxillary, the Chatter Chicks. Who knew E-vil could feel so good?

Though hot waiters, beer providers and Kevins are the only males generally allowed at these gatherings, near the end of the meeting, a male did, in fact, arrive. We all assumed he must have been a body-builder because the first thing we thought when seeing him was, "this is not a skinny dude." It turned out to be Happycat's husband which marks another first, the appearance of a Chatter Chick spouse at a meeting.

Easily identified by the bright yellow complexion and pipe smoke, yet another Chick's spouse, Mrs. Professor's, was spotted in the parking lot later. It may be time to elect our first sergeant-at-arms to deal with these security breaches.

As always, the meeting was prudently adjourned before the Chicks were bounced from the establishment for unruly behavior and the corruption of youth.

Submitted with sincere E-vil,
kelley
