Just a quick Congratulations and Thank You to the Clark Co, council for voting unanimously to rescind the vote on the RCI that passed earlier this year. The RCI was a poorly thought out piece of legislation that a wary public quickly turned a leery eye to and eventually their backs to. Public outcry had a big part in this initiative being rejected by several other municipalities. Thanks to the Clark Co. council for listening to the public and Sellersburg town councilperson Martina "Tina" Webster for bringing attention to the public of the potential downfalls and dangers of RDA's....
A million kudos to the County Council for realizing their mistake and fixing it, instead of being stubborn. This was a bad piece of legislation from the beginning. I'm glad they voted to end this monstrosity.
ReplyDeleteA million and one kudos to Martina for spearheading this and making sure that people were informed and involved.
Every person that attended meetings, spoke out, and write emails and letters needs to give themselves a pat on the back. This is what an involved community looks like.
Not a big deal either way.
ReplyDeleteI never understood the fear about this. Some talked about eminent domain as a fear, but lets face it, that wasn't probable and only 1% would be in danger of having their land being taken.
So what was the big worry about?
The bigger worry Imo was that unelected officials having the control over this money. This is an easy way for political and personal cronies of those appointed to get kickbacks and no recourse from the general public to do anything about it....
ReplyDeleteSo, people were worried how some people who hadn't even been selected, were going to spend money that would come from the state,so they decided it was better not to get the money at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that makes perfect sense to someone.
It made perfect sense to enough people that it didn't happen.
ReplyDeleteYou can bet the average taxpayer would see no benefit from this money anyway. There's a reason that county and city councils almost unanimously rejected this. A better plan would have been to use this money to reduce the tax burden for all working Hoosiers....
ReplyDeleteEveryone likes to focus on TODAY.
ReplyDeleteDo I think the risk was tomorrow? Next year?
No. The risk from the RDA comes 10 years down the road when everyone has forgotten about them and the legislature continues to grow their power.
It's fine if you TRUST a government entity to do the right thing. I'm pretty sure that's not what history shows, but you have the right to believe that if you want.
It's easier to STOP something from ever happening than it is to fight that battle once it is a big and powerful behemoth.
I want to thank all the soldiers in this county and others! who fought for our Constitutional form of RESTRAINED government. We pledge allegiance to a flag that represents a republic. We did battle to maintain our republic. Kudos!
So, Anon, it's okay to violate people's rights as long as it's not you and it's only 1% of the population? Personally, I don't like to see even one person get their rights violated, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, that was addressed to Bill. Anyway to fix that HT?
ReplyDeleteIf you would like like to take eminent domain to court to see what they think about the constitutionality of it. You will have plenty of time after the election.
ReplyDeleteAnd my point was that it was very unlikely to even happen, but some people (party) want to convince people to be afraid of everything.
I still stand behind my statement. I would rather not violate people's rights, even if it's constitutional.
ReplyDeleteYes! Finally something about restaurant.
