Another Sore Loser ???

While not disparaging winning mayoral candidate Mike Moore like Tom Galligan did four years ago loser Dennis Julius has been curiously quiet since his defeat. No thank yous to his supporters on his "Julius for Mayor" Facebook site, and closing out his personal facebook account. Did he congratulate Moore ??? Did "Moe" Zastawny, Sellers or Smith congratulate the mayor ???

It would be nice if the losing candidates would be more gracious in defeat ...congratulate the winners and concentrate on moving on and working together for the betterment of the City....but don't hold your breath....

Everybody Doesn't Love A Parade...

Seems like some of the folks on the Clark County Chatter don't like a parade, especially a Gay pride parade..... like the one proposed by a local student this coming June in Jeffersonville. The BatBlog thinks the proposed parade is a great idea,,,, a way for gay area residents to share and celebrate their lifestyles and culture.

The young student trying to put together the event seems like a very perceptive, intelligent young man wanting everyone to learn and celebrate  the gay lifestyle so as to bring about awareness where we can all live together without discrimination, distrust and hatred. Which is a great goal to try and attain in this diverse new world....

Wouldn't it be nice to see Quasar and Oldgoat in pink chiffon plumed outfits walking hand in hand with the gay community in the parade...and to better educate others ,Jeff could also have a redneck, wingnut appreciation day for others to better understand them as well...

Everybody Loves a Parade....

City Council Vote....You Know How This One Will Go

The BatBlog asked City councilman Ed "Moe" Zastawny

Q; Will you be voting yourself a pay raise ???

You can bet the house that the forthcoming vote by the Jeffersonville city council to give themselves a pay raise will be approved. Never mind that this would make them a bunch of hypocrites (again) after crying fiscal responsibility in eliminating Jeffersonville City court last year. It isn't the first time this council has spoken out of both sides of their collective mouths on being responsible and smart management of our tax dollars. The Woehrle soccer complex is apparently in line for another cool million to be spent on locker rooms by these hypocrites.

We all know the elimination of the Jeff city court was a political hatchet job instituted by Matt (Lapdog) Owen and most likely influenced by sheriff Jamey Noel. Owen isn't smart enough to think this up on his own...and even if he was he wouldn't have the balls unless someone was backing him. The lie of eliminating the court for financial considerations not only exasperated but insulted the intelligence of the residents and voters of Jeffersonville.

So moving forward the BatBlog predicts the Jeffersonville populace will be paying more for the stupid , hypocritical decisions made by this council and we can only hope that the makeup of the new council in 2016 will bring some needed honesty and common sense...

***  On a side note Dale Moss'  FLUFF PIECE  in the N/T on Ed "Moe" (am I a Rep. or a Dem ?.) Zastawny, mentioned the picture of Moe sitting in the Dem. party booth and posted here on The BatBlog.... Notice the Julius for Mayor T-shirt....

Recounts ????

****************************Breaking News A BatBlog Exclusive*****************************
County Councilman Kevin Vissing (D) has announced exclusively to the "award winning" BatBlog that he will file for a recount tomorrow morning in his Dist. 3 Jeffersonville City council race against  Callie Jahn (R).  Vissing said he also expects Steve Webb (R) to file in his council at large race.....

Note: Once again the BatBlog out scoops all major local media News/Tribune. Courier Journal and all local TV news....

*************************************************************************************************
Candidates from both parties have until tomorrow I believe to file for recounts for the recent 2015 election. Has anyone heard of any plans to do so ??? The  City council at large races were very close for several of the candidates, as was Kevin Vissing's race against Callie Jahn in Dist.2. As close as these races were the BatBlog believes a recount would be a foregone conclusion and necassary. Maybe KV will weigh in on this....

The CCC Wall of Fame ....New Poll Up

As promised after the election the BatBlog will announce a Clark County Chatter "Wall of Fame", included is a poll to the right to vote on your favorite poster or somebody worthy of the "Wall of Fame" These are off the top of my head so forgive me if I left someone out. Be Sure To Vote !!!!

NOTE...How could I forget BikerDude...Sorry Dude... but I'm sure no one will have a problem putting the Dude right on the "Wall of Fame" he totally slipped my mind and you can't add once the poll is started....The Dude  would have been near the top so he's automatically on....

Patronage Jobs...

There currently is a discussion on the local internet forum Clark County Chatter about political patronage jobs.  CLICK HERE  In particular is a dept. head recently released by mayor Mike Moore. The BatBlog's take on this is that anyone taking a patronage job is pretty naive to think these jobs are anything more than what they are. They are for patronage and paybacks to supporters of candidates who win election.

Each elected official if in a position to hire or fire may have a certain criteria he /she follows but these jobs are filled and refilled at the whim of the office holder. That's just the nature of the political beast, and let's be honest 99% of these jobs aren't brain surgery and no specific skills are required.

So if in this particular situation if this is being used as a thinly veiled criticism of Jeffersonville mayor Mike Moore the BatBlog says Come On !!! Every patronage job is issued and rescinded at the discretion of the winning candidate. It may not sound fair but that's just the way it is, they all do it.So if if you have a problem with the way the system works The BatBlog suggests if  offered a "patronage " job... respectfully turn it down....
THANK YOU VETERANS !!!

Thank You and Honoring all that served especially my late father...

Happy Veteran's Day Dad !!!

Moving Forward....After the Election

The BatBlog asked  three of Jeffersonville's City councilpersons for their reaction to Mike Moore's victory....

The 2015 Elections are history other than possible recounts, so what does the future hold ??? Re-elected mayor Mike Moore has an opportunity for a fresh start and to connect with a fairly new city council. The "Obstructionist 5" (Ed "Moe" Z, Julius, Sellers, Smith and Gill) are history, as only Moe and Gill return to office. The new councilmen and councilwoman should be more willing to work with the mayor than the "Obstructionist 5" were. They played politics from day 1 of the Moore administration, and appeared only interested in replacing Moore with Julius, and blocking or delaying the majority of the mayor's projects in order to improve the Julius candidacy.

Moore has said he will reach out to the new council and hopes to heal wounds and have a better relationship.. The key will be Gill and "Moe", will they put aside their obvious dislike/jealousy of MM in order to progress forward or continue their obstructionist ways ??? Both are of the same party as the mayor (though Moe doesn't seem quite sure), both also have the tendency to think they are mini-mayors, nitpicking, micromanaging and delaying projects.

Gill and Moe need to realizee for the second straight time the people have chosen Moore to lead the city. Their job is too fund projects and enact ordinances, not micro analyze or create their own projects...they are NOT the Executive branch and the sooner they realize this the better off we the citizens will be...

As for the future Jeffersonville mayor Moore's main priority Priority 1... has to be improving traffic movement and the highway and road infrastructure. The east end traffic situation is terrible, especially the Hwy.62 corridor and the Holman Ln./ Allison Ln. thru to Utica Pike area. Either a new corridor to Veterans Pkwy. or widening Holman to four lanes is essential, adding a turning lane just won't get it...

Moore's projects, the entryway and 10th St. improvement are right on track, the jobs and economical outlook are  growing enormously, three of the "Obstruction 5" will be gone ...the future looks bright....

Taking Up For the Good People...

There are some scoundrels in politics but don't get us wrong there are good people as well. One of them is Susan Popp (D) Clark Co. Clerk.

Election night it appears that some ranking GOP officials mostly to themselves but some comments were made to the press having fun blaming Ms. Popp for the computer snafu involving the counting of  the absentee ballots.

A new system was in place this year and for the 1st time absentee ballots were counted at the central count location at the county courthouse. A computer programming error caused the problem, but on a night when all was going well, the GOP bigwigs thought it hilarious a Dem. might have screwed up...

That BatBlog's message....Ms. Popp is one of the good people in office. The problem had nothing to do with politics and Susan was free from blame. Be humble in victory as well as defeat because every dog has his day......

Missing in Action... NHBSM and Kruger....

NHBSM ???
Fellow CCC members seem genuinely concerned about brothers in arms CLICK HERE... NHBSM and Kruger both have apparently disappeared.

They been crying on the internet for 4 straight years after flipping on the Jeff mayor ...actually 8  years because they cried about Galligan until they flip flopped first for him and then against and now back for him....confusing isn't it....

Rumor is they moved to Pekin (HT's hometown) looking for political positions...Pekinites aren't too politically savvy

Anyway I hope NH isn't in San Francisco as I found this photo from the Golden Gate Bridge the resemblance is remarkable.....

Feuding Democrats

City councilman at large candidate Ron Ellis (D) is pretty upset and calls out Dem. party county chairman Tom Galligan  " needs to resign get back in a bulldozer and let someone with leadership skills guide our party" also according to Ellis "There has been so much manipulation of the vote totals for the council at large seats, there will have to be a recount to see who wins."

Four More Moore Years....2015 Election Rundown

The people have spoken and riding a wave of unparalleled growth mayor Mike Moore won a 2nd term as the mayor of Jeffersonville, and deservedly so. While his relationship with the city council has been contentious at best, the people of Jeffersonville showed they are Moore than pleased with his leadership and awarded him four Moore years of leading the city into the future.

The Republican party once again has put it's boot on the throat of the struggling Democrats, who managed to win only two city council seats and an uncontested City clerk position. The beat down was so complete that 2 of the 3 Democrat winners had no GOP contender making one wonder what would have happened had the GOP had candidates in all the races.

Kevin Vissing in Dist, 3 is only 33 votes behind pending  absentee vote counting in his race against Callie Jahn so there is some hope for Dem.s there. Kevin worked hard and deserves a win....

Hopefully everyone will get behind mayor Moore now, but already there are disparaging remarks on Facebook about Moore's win and those who voted for him. One only needs to look around, go down to the riverfront and see the exciting change and improvement on the new "Fisherman's Wharf". Lots to look forward to in the next four years but also a lot of work especially improving the traffic infrastructure that we are rapidly outgrowing...

It's an exciting time and The BatBlog is looking forward to  Four More Moore years !!!

Note : Pending changes from absentee votes the BatPoll was a perfect 9 out of 9 and HT correctly picked 7 of the 9 winners in today's election.... wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather

2015 BatBlog Election Eve Special...

The campaigning is just about done and tomorrow the votes will be cast in the 2015 Jeffersonville city elections. The BatBlog presents it's Election Eve Special with one last look at the races at who might win and a guide on who to vote for...Let's look at the races....

GCCC School Referendum - Referendum to update Greater Clark schools, voters
will decide whether to adopt GCCS's plan that will raise taxes. Voters hate to vote tax increases and the GCCS's administration and school board have doomed this to failure by failing to be open and upfront with the public on the exact plans. The BatBlog says vote NO as this referendum will fail by a 2 to 1 margin..

City Council Dist.1 - Dustin White (D) beat a crowded field in the primary and should win election to the council against Independent Brett Wilson look for White to get about 60% of the votes...BatBlog recommends to vote for White...

City Council Dist. 2 - Ed "Moe" Zastawny (R) unopposed in Dist,2 ...BatBlog recommends don't vote...

City Council Dist. 3 -  Current county councilman Kevin Vissing (D) faces newcomer Callie Jahn (R). This could be a close race but K.V. is the obvious, smart choice for voters, Jahn
hasn't even been registered to vote before and her boyfriend when on the council had a terrible attendance record. K.V. is an experienced, dedicated office holder who will serve the people...K.V. in a close one....

City Council Dist. 4 -  Scottie Maples (R) a member of the Clark Co, sheriff's dept. faces Dem. Albert Frazier. The BatBlog doesn't like double dippers so the choice is Frazier, but look for Maples to win. Maples has the name recognition so important in local politics.

City Council Dist. 5 -  Incumbent (R) Lisa Gill faces Keith "Crapper Flapper" Fetz, This could be another close race, Fetz has  name recognition from an earlier stint on the council and a following among voters. Gill is one of the Obstructionist 5 who opposes the mayor on everything. The BatBlog can't recommend either candidate but gives a slight, edge to Gill, but wouldn't be surprised if Fetz wins.

City Council Dist. 6 - The BatBlog doesn't know a lot about the Dist. 6 candidates where newcomers Scott Hawkins (R) takes on  Teri Hicks (R). Based on the results from the BatPoll we think Hawkins will win big over Hicks.

City Council (At Large) - Six candidates three from each party face off in the council at large seats. The BatBlog feels Ron Ellis (D), Nathan Samuel (D) and Steve Webb (R) are the smart choices for Jeffersonville voters. The BatBlog feels strongly that Matt "Lapdog" Owen needs to Go. Poor attendance record, unwise decisions and being the "Lapdog" to Jamey Noel make Owen a poor option, but on name recognition alone he has a legitimate shot at reelection. This could be a close race with everyone but Cooley in the hunt for the seats....but the BatBlog sticks with it's choices Ellis , Samuel and Webb....

Mayor - The BatBlog endorsed Mike Moore in yesterday's post CLICK HERE but as we go to press this race is too close too call...Moore deserves another term ,but issues with the city council and other personal actions make this race a toss up...Julius has shown no leadership qualities but there will be a lot of just anti- Moore votes. The winner will be who can best get their supporters to the Polls...Prediction 52% - 48%  Moore....but it could easily be the other way with Julius winning....

Be Sure To Vote !!!

The Jeffersonville Mayor's Race...An Easy Choice ???

The Jeffersonville mayor's race has become a hotly contested race between incumbent Mike Moore (R) and challenger city councilman Dennis Julius (D). Earlier at first glance with all the recent unparalleled growth of the downtown and east end sectors the BatBlog thought that Moore would have an easy path to reelection. While Moore still remains the favorite ,the way we see it, it will be closer than imagined early on and a Julius upset isn't out of the question...

Several factors have increased Julius chances from average to fairly good of winning election. First is the contentious relationship between the Moore and the Jeffersonville City council. To call the relationship strained is an understatement, the spasm is deep and personal with council members of Moore's own party the GOP openly working against his reelection bid. There have been reports of one or more of these Rep. council members actually going door to door with Julius, something unheard of in political circles. Julius has wisely used this chasm as a key campaign issue.

The blame for the rift can pointed in both directions. There is a faction of the council that will never except Moore or his ideas due to their foolish allegiance and ties to former mayor Galligan. Unfortunately Moore instead of taking the high road and accepting that for what it is, attempted to bully his way around and through the council and at times looking foolish in the process of directing anger toward them. This strained the  dealing with those members who may have been neutral and has nearly pushed away the entire council except for Matt Owen. Moore hasn't helped himself in the regard, he should have fought his battles quietly, the public is now aware and voters don't like squabbling government entities.

Another factor helping Julius is the Galligan bloc of older voters from the 2011 election. They  also will never accept Moore or forgiven him for baeting TG, no matter how much the city grows and prospers. They are older and old people go to the polls in bigger majorities than younger voters. The Galligan bloc is a minority of total voters but their propensity to vote regularly will be a factor helping Julius.

Having said all that ,there is no denying that the City of Jeffersonville has flourished during the term of Mike Moore. Detractors will say luck and timing  contributed to this success and no doubt there is some truth to that. With the bridges projects and the expanding growth of River Ridge, Jeffersonville is busting at the seams in unparalleled progress. This progress is undeniable and Mike Moore has shown the hard nosed grittiness to get things done and move forward with his ideas. This grittiness has in the process pissed some people off, but in the end he has shown the strong determined leadership qualities that are necessary for the mayoral position.

Julius even when presented opportunities has not shown the leadership ability needed for the job. He could have stepped forward when the council made unwise decisions. Example when motions were made to eliminate Jeff city court he could have stepped forward and made a difference. Same way with the soccer field issue. The controversy about the median landscaping ...if he had organized his followers or brought his workers to clean up the mess was another chance to show leadership but it passed him by.

Bottom line if you go over the last four year it has been successful and good things are happening here locally. Mike Moore though not perfect deserves another term. Julius has not exhibited any leadership qualities, that would make him an acceptable choice...This is an easy choice and the BatBlog endorses Mike Moore for mayor of Jeffersonville....

Tomorrow the BatBlog election eve special....were we relook at the races, predict winners and recommend who to vote for...
