It would be nice to know who actually won the City Council at large seats in the recent Jeffersonville city elections. Unfortunately we will probably never know for sure. Steve Webb (R) was named winner today by Judge Adams who declared the results certified by only two of the three recount Commissioners was still valid by Indiana law. Both the recount as well as the counting of votes on absentee ballots on election night appears to be seriously flawed...Accusations of miscounting, sleeping counters and all six of the candidates votes not being counted in the recount are being leveled and appeals by several candidates to Judge Adam's decision will reportedly be filed.
Dustin White representing candidate Ron Ellis(D) reportedly will ask for a special election. In theory Mr. White's request sounds good, but the BatBlog also doesn't think it would be fair or feasible. The chances of getting everyone who voted back to the polls for a "special" election is ZERO. It's hard enough to get voters to vote no matter what, so chances are the turnout would be minuscule for a Councilman at large race only. A poor percentage turnout would skew the original results and also nullify the voters who voted in Nov. but couldn't make the special election, plus the prohibitive cost of putting on another election...
In the end the BatBlog wonders why "Toxic" John Perkins signed the original tally then refused to certify what he already signed ??? The BatBlog also feels Judge Adam's ruling will stand ...but we will never know who actually won ala Bush vs. Gore 2000......
What would you expect with JP in charge?
ReplyDeleteWhat did you expect from the local republicans? They weren't going to give back any of there recent gains by hook or crook.
ReplyDeleteBut nice job supporting them.
Everything Perkins is involved in will be considered tainted. Even if his claims are legitimate in this case, he is like the little boy that cried wolf no one will pay much attention or believe his claims.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty sad when Perkins and Galligan are the faces of the Dem. party here in jeffersonville and clark county.
ReplyDeleteWhile I wouldn't have chosen Perkins either, he is an intelligent, well informed man who knows how government works .....probably more than anyone else here locally. The thing with Perkins is his reputation to stir things up and be difficult to get along which makes for controversy right off the bat. Then you have Wilder in there as well...
ReplyDeleteI see no one to really throw any blame on all this just a combination of things including politics that in the words of someone involved has become a real "clusterfuck"...with no end in sight...
ReplyDeleteThank-you HT for acknowledging some of the things that JP brings to the table...He could chew up and spit out almost anybody I can think of in this area in regards to his knowledge of government and how it works...Especially on the local level.
My guess is if we had a local addition of Jeopardy with JP going up against other well-known local residents/posters he'd still be in the game long after everyone else had left with their parting gift.
It may hurt, but regardless of how one might feel about him it's the truth.
Jules and HT.....right on the mark about JP! My question to those who believe JP was wrong choice. Who would you put on the board of commissioners that was retured, able to make these meetings, that is shrewd, a true Democrat, knows politics inside and out. Give me a name! Who would you pick?
ReplyDeletePersonally I would have chosen Dick Jones... long time well respected Democrat and veteran office holder. While the choice of JP for the reasons you mentioned above is valid, he has become a pariah to most rank and file Democrats and most voters in general...
ReplyDeleteHis arrogance, condescending attitude and his reputation as being difficult as I said before makes controversy happen immediately. "Toxic" John likes to push the envelope and rules to the limit and in this instance I'm not sure that is want you want or need.
Working cooperatively together to find the real winner and count votes accurately in a non partisan as possible way is the goal here and I'm not sure "cooperation" is in Perkin's vocabulary...
Dick Jones is not the "good democrat" you think he is. He loves the Moores, and has back stabbed many Democrats.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed many life long Democrats have jumped on the Republican band wagon. These are phony "for sale" people in our community. They want that "get out of jail free card" by putting their lips on Noel's ass! Down the road, when they, or their family, gets in trouble, they will be asking JN for help.
Dick Jones was asked to help in the recount and declined.
ReplyDeleteThe most respected guy they could think of declined, so they went with the least respected. Interesting choice. Hard to figure how the Democrats keep losing ground in Clark County.
ReplyDeleteLots of "good" Democrats have supported Moore recently and will continue until the Dem.s come up an acceptable candidate....and it works both ways the "phony for sale people" you speak of actually are being betrayed by the phony for sale leaders of the local Dem. party..
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI've noticed the same anonymous...Can't comment on the motives but it's disappointing.
Follow the money trail. Those who were democrat office holders that all of a sudden have a love fest for JN, we're only in it for themselves. One super poster on here included. Sad!
ReplyDeleteMatt Owen was elected president of the city council tonight.
ReplyDeleteIt was not unanimous. At least there's at least one person still sitting with some sense.
Jeffersonville, a 2nd class city, now has a 25yr old EMT with a high-school education who spent most of his time at previous meetings playing on his phone, disconnected, with a short attention span at the head of it's city council. It sounded as if JN prepared a wonderful FB post for Owen to spread the news. We can't be that stupid of a city.
What a joke and God help us. The only bright spot is in the knowledge that it's inevitable the whole thing will eventually collapse and in a spectacular fashion would be my guess.
I thought that two council members did not vote for him.
ReplyDeleteThat will help to "clarify" things going forward.
