Election 2015 ...Easiest Prediction...NO on the School Referendum
The easiest prediction on the upcoming election is that voters will reject handily the GCCS referendum to update area schools. The referendum if approved would raise local taxes approximately $60.00 per household.
The BatBlog says there is NO way this referendum passes. Voters hate tax raises for what ever reason, plus the public has virtually no confidence in this school board or school administration to spend the money wisely. The whole initial plan of closing certain schools and the money spent to market the public for approval has doomed this referendum from the beginning. As well the true perception that tax money is never spent in a smart, efficient manner makes this plan a DEAD deal...
The BatBlog endorses a NO VOTE on the school referendum....

The batblog endorses taking away from little johnny and little susy's education, shameful.
ReplyDeletePlease VOTE YES on the school referendum
ReplyDeleteLet's be realistic it's not about the kids. I'm sure if this was a good plan and all the money went to benefit education and for the kids ...95% of the people would overwhelmingly support this...
ReplyDeleteAs it is, it is a poor plan with very little input from parents and the teachers, and frankly the public has very little confidence in the local school board and administration. This referendum will go down in flames as it should....VOTE NO
Why would anyone vote to give money to a convicted felon?
ReplyDeleteI think taxes for schools should be levied on those who have children learning in those schools.
ReplyDeleteVote NO on the referendum! It's not about kids. The administration lied repeatedly. They're still lying and playing dirty. It will hurt people on fixed incomes and farmers.
ReplyDeleteWho is the convicted felon?
The estimated tax increase on a home with an assessed value of $125,000 is $192 per year. A $250,000 farm will have to pay approx. $970 per year. And people should know that the tax caps do NOT apply to a school referendum. Taxes can and will exceed the tax caps. This increase will be for 22 years! And during that time there will most likely be another referendum since Melin said he needs a total of $200,000,000 according to the "secret" Kovert Hawkins report. They say it is for the kids -- but the kids will also be paying for it for years to come if it passes. Do we really think it is wise to pass on such a tremendous debt to the students?
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with education --- buildings do not educate students -- teachers do. This is a bad plan. Several board members ran on "transparency" -- but there is NO transparency with this plan. None. Let's hope Hoosiertaxpayer is right and this goes down in flames.
I'm still on the fence about this. I've decided that if I'm still on the fence when it comes time to vote, I'll probably just vote yes. It's not that much money at all so I can easily live with it for the school corporation.
ReplyDeleteif you're really on the fence, then consider all these farmers out there trying to make a living.
ReplyDeletejust skip over that question and leave it blank. or vote NO.
It is a matter of trust....
ReplyDeleteIf Perking would have resigned, and Merlin released the facilities report then this might have a chance to pass.
As things stand now, very doubtful.
I believe this will pass. There are really not that many people who are against this, just a dozen or so, the same dozen who would not agree to anything the current school board proposed. This will benefit everyone in the long run and I am looking forward to voting day when it passes. As far as Teresa Perkins, that horse has been beat to death. No amount of stomping ones feet or whining about it is going to change things. Let he who is without sin....and so on.
ReplyDeleteI think, I'm now in love with Lisa. Very intelligent woman.

ReplyDeleteUrging all voters to Vote YES on the Referendum I believe with my whole heart that we all will benefit, especially our children and grandchildren. We don't need bandaids put on these old buildings, I personally want the best for my children. :)
ReplyDeletevote No..I;n on a fixed income and being taxed to death
ReplyDeleteOh, I see. So I guess we allow our children to go to schools that are beyond repair and dangerous so that we do not (maybe) affect your fixed income? I understand. You have fallen for the lies and scare tactics from some on the CCC. You will be fine but unless we get these new buildings for our children and grandchildren, they may not be.
