A BatBlog Exclusive ....A Democratic Coup ???

We too old JP ???  No TG I'm not but you are...
It has been exclusively leaked to the BatBlog that a potential coup is being formulated to unseat current Dem. party chairman Tom Galligan from his seat. Led by a prominent young Dem. and two grizzled former Galligan supporters the BatBlog has learned that secret meetings have been held and telephone calls and emails exchanged in the effort. Galligan in their opinion and shared by many rank and file voters is too old, controversial and doesn't have the personality to reach young party members and recruit attractive new candidates...

Recently GOP beatdowns of the Dem. party have become a regular part of the  election cycle here locally. Led by GOP party chair Jamey Noel, Rep.s have brought many young, new  faces and candidates forward and they have been very successful at the polls.Meanwhile Democrat's have remained stagnant and tired old mules (Gallgan, Perkins etc,) remain the face of the party trying desperately to remain relevant from their limited success 2 decades ago.

While the BatBlog applauds the effort of the coup one must be warned. The huge egos of the old mules while misplaced won't allow them to step down on their own graciously.  Much like Noel Republicans the Democratic party caucus made up of precinct chairmen/ women is stacked with many old friend, relatives, coworkers etc. It will be a daunting task to unseat him unless in the best interests of local Democrats TG graciously steps aside. Unfortunately the BatBlog doesn't see that happening anytime soon...

  1. Oh PUKE!! Here's an idea -- maybe they should make Ed Z their next chairman! He's clearly a Democrat in disguise!

  2. The democrats are so far behind here in clark county it will take years to straighten out, a lot of good d's have jumped ship.

  3. Knowing dems they will appoint Perkins chairman.

  4. The insiders that call those various corridors of power their natural habitat say that TG only agreed to be the Democrat Chair for one year when he took it.It was on an interim basis as they say he is working very hard every day at his business. The problem is that he has not been able to find a suitable replacement. The bench is thin and they are looking for a dynamic new young person to revitalize the Democratic party.

  5. I'm a Democrat and I am smart enough to know when to be quiet when others are speaking.

Good gosh almighty, could no one see that they were filming a video to promote the values of the Democrat Party.

That could have been a very good promotion piece had there not been constant jabbering in the background.

No wonder we keep losing in Clark.

  6. That video is truly shocking.

  7. How old is Gilligan anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why would they use a felon in their video? That certainly doesn't help their image. Sheesh

  9. Anon. If Galligan only wanted the position for an interim , why did he run at all ??? Seems like he would just let his opponent who was I believe was our friend Dustin White have it.

I and a lot of other Democrats don't buy that for one minute...and his year is up...

  10. H-T, your pic
of JP and TG is most excellent!
It is right up there with the soccer players depiction!

  11. Not me ,but some would say that there heads are on the wrong end of the donkeys...

  12. The reason TG agreed to take the Democrat Chairmanship was because Bob Bottorff
wanted away from it to run for prosecutor and they needed a quick replacement. Tom Galligan had done a strong job as mayor for 12 years so he was a natural choice. TG has been looking at many possible replacements and they have gone through long lists of wanna-b power brokers. Many have actively been discussed and analyzed but just don't have the overall organizational skills to pull the party out of its tailspin. The consensus is that they do not want to take an interim step. Others who could do a good job won't touch it. Woe.

  13. it is not Galligan's job to "look for a replacement" or HIS choice. This is supposedly the people's party and the people should elect the chairman not someone handpicked by Galligan...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, I was his opponent. There is someone with the organizational skills out there but that would mean having someone who thinks for themselves and can't be told what to do....

  15. How it Works.
    The Selection of a Chair.

    The respective "chair persons"
of the Democrat and Republican political parties
in Indiana at the county, district , and state level
are selected by a vote at each level. These elected persons
are generally party activists and organizers.

County level precinct committeemen or committeewomen are elected
from each precinct by the primary voters, generally every four years.

The individuals voting in a particular party's precinct
may vote for the precinct person for that party and that precinct.

Indiana has an "Open Primary" system so that an individual is not
pre-registered as a Democrat or a Republican. A legally eligible voter
simply asks for a Democrat or Republican ballot.

Precinct committeepersons thus elected for each precinct
caucus to elect a county chair.

The county chairs of each individual congressional district
caucus then elect a district chair.

The district chairs the elect the respective statewide chaircritter.
The head statewide organizational dude or chick!

TG and JN are properly very involved as are all county chairs.
Traditionally, county chairs often play an active role in helping recruit
    and elect a successor.

Remember that the elected precinct persons actually vote
    for the new chaircritters.

On the Democrat side, Ralph Stemler saw Dan Donahue succeed him.
Mr. Donahue arranged and oversaw Keith Growth to follow him.
Keith saw Dickie Jones after him. Bill Stewart
was promoted by Dick Jones and was his successor.
Stewart recruited Jimmy Bottorff to succeed him.

The county chair always wants what is best for his/her party
and actively assist in the process. it is proper and expected.

Electing a divisive, egotistical chair is not the answer.

    It is probably time
    for the Clark County Democrats
to select a woman for the next chair.

    She will need
    exceptional organizational skills
and should be a "middle of the road",
    "expanding the base" politician
and it would be best NOT to be "a far left ideologue".

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mr. White
    should also be considered
for the chair by the Democrats.
    He has strong organizational skills,
is highly motivated, and very involved.
TG would not be happy with the selection of Dustin..... it is rumored.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah it's total BS that the chair seemingly has to have Galligan's approval. That's what has turned many rank in file Dem.s away from the local party... the clique mentality. Obviously Mr. White wanted the job ...so give him the opportunity IF Galligan doesn't want it as Anon. stated earlier.

Mr. White was a popular vote getter against a large field of Dem.s is fairly young and is a new fresh face. I say give him a chance he certainly can't hurt as Dems are at there lowest point ever here locally....

He might be just the kind of leader that could bring the party back to relevance...but IMO Galligan want's to hold on to it, has the majority of the precinct committeemen in his pocket and won't relinquish it until HIS self picked successor comes forward...

This is not the Democratic way...

  18. It is fair to commend Noel for efforts to organize and succeed with his party.

It is also fair to point out that Noel has created a position where he has the power
    to financially reward his minions.

    1. His Fire Departments and EMS "Public" business operations which he runs with
    absolutely minimal public oversight.

    2. His Sheriff Department where every man jack or woman can be given something.

This is quite a lot of power in the hands of the party chairman.

    The Democrats have nothing similar.

This is what is meant when people say, "to the victor go the spoils"

    ReplyDelete
  19. Exactly CV Galligan says he doesn't want it (according to Anon.), but doesn't want Mr. White to have it either...total BS, a classic case of obstructionism. The rank in file know it but precinct committee system is flawed as it allows the manipulation by a few not the people...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh I give credit to Noel, not sure that is in the best interest of the all the people though. If and when other GOP members and voters realize that is too much power for one man and they are being manipulated it can all come tumbling down, just like it has the Democrats...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Concerned Voter said...
Electing a divisive, egotistical chair is not the answer.

Exactly that's what we have now and it's obviously not working...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why doesn't Dustin White just tell Galligan to "cease and desist"!!! ha

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dustin has many qualities that would make him an excellent
party chair. But, also has one quality that absolutely disqualifies
    him...He is vindictive.

He has a chip on his shoulder and holds a grudge...long long after
    most would 'let it go'.

    Too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Vindictive isn't always bad, especially if someone is wronged...

If he has certain qualities that would make him an "excellent party chair" then he should be given a chance...

It's total bullshit that because he won't kiss Galligan's ass or he isn't to Galligan's liking he is being denied.

We are letting an old, washed up, has been... control the whole local Dem. party....Sad !!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Democrats don't elect new precinct committeemen until 2018.

So, no coup can happen so long as TG can appoint people.

Noel has all his firemen as his appointed PCs.

I get a kick out of people cheering Noel for growing the party. How? By allowing democrats to leave their sinking ship and change the letter behind their name? Allowing power hungry people to follow the winds of power instead of principles? By taking advantage of Clark County democrats' scandals?

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Clark County Republicans feel that they are the most principled.
The Clark County Democrats feel that they are the most principled.
(Note the Dem video that HT posted!)

The voting demographics, issues, and overall beliefs
in Clark County have shifted dramatically
    and matured significantly.

It not a matter of the D's being allowed to abandon a sinking ship,
as it is major shift in ideology and public attitudes
about what will work best for the citizens.

The Dem power brokers have died off
and the voter composition has shifted.
The Dems are out of petrol.

The emerging Republican leadership is much better organized,
much better funded, and has attracted very good candidates. They have worked
very hard to create an organization much like the Democrats once had.

No one currently involved with the Democratic Party
OR in office now can stop the dramatic shift.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The shift won't stop until national democrats get a good candidate for president. Democrats need a leader! Hillary, Sanders are pathetic! Republicans are all over the map! Once the primary is over, and one republican is chosen, then we will know more.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think that national politics has much to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well if HT would know about anything, it would be vindictiveness.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Care to explain ???

Being vindictive toward someone or something who has wronged you intentionally isn't necessarily a bad quality too have.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes it is. Life has much more to offer to spend time focussing on perceived wrongs.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Your vindictiveness towards Galligan, because you were in the way of the canal, is unhealthy and borderline creepy.

Get over it! Life goes on.

    ReplyDelete

  33. I have no vindictiveness at all toward a canal that doesn't even exist... The BatBlog merely points out that Galligan is an out of touch, bully and buffoon whose time and his self sense of importance has passed...

What's creepy is the dumb asses like you that defend him...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your complete overreaction to a honest and harmless comment, shows your unhealthy hate towards Galligan. And I didn't read any defense of Galligan. #vindictiveness

    ReplyDelete
  35. Galligan has forgot more than Moore will ever know. Yes, Galligan can be a jerk, but he likes to get things done.

We will find out how good Moore is in the next 8 years.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah Galligan got things done (rolling eyes)... I forgot about Kingfish and Buckheads, pretty impressive for 12 years (more Rolling eyes)

  37. H-T: Chill bro!
    :)
    Mellow....

    The highly competent barrister LW
says "Fight the next war, not the last war!"

    TG is no longer mayor.
    That is history, bro.
Many feel that Tom did am excellent job,
    was very dedicated, and worked
    very hard.
It is also now "the Kinder, Gentler TG !!"

The story in the corridors and cloak rooms
    is that Keith Fetz
can be the next Democrat Chaircritter
if he wants to do so.

    Many intelligent observers
feel he would do a very good job,
but he understands the changes that have occurred
in Clark County make the Democrat leader dude or leader chick's job
    almost impossible.

Mr. Fetz also, it is said,
    understands this very well.
He would have to implement many changes.

The excellent organizational and leadership efforts
by CC Republican Chair Jamey Noel and Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore
will be very difficult to compete with for a long time.

  38. Teresa Perkins talking about a moral compass? Being a democrat is like religion?

    I'm honestly shaking my head.
