Yea it is scary ...can you imagine the 55 year old lady I wrote about in last week's post being thrown into that atmosphere for having a couple of loose medication pills in her purse.
She was mortified, there are enough bad guys to go around we don't need to be throwing innocent people into jail...
I seriously doubt if she was in there for a few hours that she was put into general population. As far as Anon's question pertaining to guards, there aren't enough to watch every single inmate 24 hours a day. Inmates can be very crafty. Hopefully the jail learned some of their secrets from this documentary. I think it's great.
Who is bringing the drugs into the jail? And as Anon said, 'where are the guards?" -- or are they the problem? Also, when did this 60 days occur? what time period??
This started filming in September and October of 2015. This is nothing but a ploy to make Noel look like a Savior and King.Everyone living in Clark county should be pissed for the FALSE betrayal and black eye that this reality show puts on the City and County
Yea Anon. she wasn't in the general population but still for someone who has never even had a traffic ticket, to be in the jail environment at all, was a harrowing experience. Plus the fact she was innocent... shameful and disturbing...
I think Noel wants to be the next Joe Arpio ( what a lofty goal ).
Between this and his recent guest spot on Fox discussing his new initiative of encouraging all citizens to arm themselves along with providing gun handling/training classes tells me all I need to know...Publicity hound.
If you want to use "undercover" inmates to give you insight into the problems in your jail fair enough I guess...But why the need to publicize it all over the world??...Agree with the above that said this is a black-eye on the community...Along with exploitation of the prisoners...Most of whom are sitting there on relatively minor charges and/or for whatever reason can't post bail...The more I think about it the more it disgusts me.
They say very few people knew what was going on...Maybe...My guess is enough knew to step back and not intervene when some of this was being filmed for better effect...There will probably be a follow-up series next year showing how the sheriff has come in now and cleaned the place up...With lots of interviews...UGH
As someone who spent 14 years working in DOC, I see the positive side and the negative side of this. First Sheriff Noel has done a extremely great job of cleaning up the jail, but also understand that most of the jail staff were there before he was elected. So while he cleaned up what he saw, there are always tons of things going on that you will never know unless you are a inmate. Sheriff Noel took the chance and he was given a free unbiased opinion of line staff and the deep dark secrets that were never available to him. I know that they have very quietly let 7 jail officers go in the past two months, I would only guess that this is in direct response to what was learned. I was also told that 4 out of the 7 left before their 60 days was up.
Bad part, is that these people placed themselves in harms way and while others might worry about law suits, they should be fine as I can guarantee you A and E plus the jails had them sign iron clad waivers. The other bad part is with all the TV time Jamie is getting right now, it makes him appear more of a reality star the long term Sheriff.
I seriously doubt if she was in there for a few hours that she was put into general population. As far as Anon's question pertaining to guards, there aren't enough to watch every single inmate 24 hours a day. Inmates can be very crafty. He could have done this without putting it all on national television. I think he likes seeing his face on the television.
WOW.. all down on Noel, What about Rodden who created this mess and let it go? The jail has been like this ( and worse) for years. Noel may like publicity But he hasen't been caught chasing pussy on the job.
Noel is not the only sheriff in the nation telling citizens to arm themselves...Check out TX , MI, NM and others. Welcome to 2016 and the land of addiction. Departments are overwhelmed and lack man power. They are telling you to be prepared to defend yourself, in case they can't. I take that seriously.
AS far as exploitation of the prisoners, screw them, shouldn't have landed themselves there. Most are NOT relatively minor charges. Heroin, assault, cannibalism, trafficking, theft.
How you see these people act in jail, is nothing compared to how they act on the street. It's worse.
Our jail sucks and needs to be cleaned up. No matter how its done. and yes, this is season 1 there will be a season 2. All we can hope for is that it's under control.
TLIES, that's a very impressive rant. But I still don't understand why it all has to be on national television unless it is to stroke Noel's vanity (and maybe line his pockets at some point). Did he mention in his campaign that he was going to splatter our business all over the national media?
It would be interesting to find out if any money was made on this deal and where did it go. Seems like any contract signed would be available through an open records request...
What does it matter if its on national television or not ?? New flash *** we are not the only ones with these kinds of problems. Ever look at it as an opportunity? If it helps here or somewhere else, it's all good. When issues and solutions are shared everyone benefits. If 10 local kids see it and it keeps them out of the jail. It's worth it.
If your embarrassed by it , that's on you. Hiding it doesn't help anything. Only lets it progress. That's why the jail is in this mess. Oh, and I doubt half the nation gives a rats ass about what's going on here.
Here is your snapshot for 2-11-2016 right out of the News and Tribune. Some arrested, some released. A Fun group!!
Benny M. Tichenor, 56, Auburn, Ky., auto theft Amanda M. Dionne, 28, Jeffersonville, possession of heroin, possession of a syringe Anne M. Daily, 43, Pekin, operating a vehicle while intoxicated Adam L. Snelling, 27, Jeffersonville, possession of paraphernalia, dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of marijuana/hash, possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance Joshua C. King, 23, Charlestown, theft, possession of marijuana/hash, possession of a syringe Robert D. Upton, 48, Jeffersonville, maintaining a common nuisance, manufacture of paraphernalia with previous, possession of marijuana/hash Brooke C. Walters, 23, Hanover, possession of paraphernalia, violaiton of the Legend Drug Act, possession of marijuana/hash, possession of controlled substance
I have no problem with it on TV either. Show it how it is, the only problem I'll have if it becomes the Jamey Noel Show making him look like the King he thinks he is.
These type shows can be edited in a way to make it look like Noel's some kind of hero... hopefully not.
I have an employee who spent a lot of time in the CC jail as a young man. He also spent some years in federal custody. We are planning on watching this show to see if anything looks "off". He says that he probably knows quite a few of the dumbasses in there and they are the types that would play to the cameras. So, I'm assuming it may not show our jail in the best light. Yee haw!!
I am beginning to think Sheriff Noel is a narcissist. This is over the top and our County Commissioners admitting they knew nothing of what went on with the filming is appalling. Who is responsible for maintaining the jail? Who is liable if the county gets sued by those who suffered under the hands of inmates? But to my actual point.... There are Peace Officers aka Sheriffs, all across America that quietly do the job of serving and protecting ALL of their citizens, even the ones in their jails.
We will have to see how well this is done...You have to realize all most all these reality shows are scripted. They are basically putting actors in among these inmates and claim the inmates don't know this. I seriously doubt that is true, I don't know if this will be a real depiction of what jail life is like or not, probably a lot of drama will be added to make for good tv....
" An A&E spokesperson said anyone who was filmed was cleared for air, but might not have known the premise of the show. Only a select few knew about the project."
Well the video confirms the drug use in the jail. Where are the guards?

ReplyDeleteNoel is definitely a publicity hound, not sure this makes Clark Co. look bad though, all jails are nasty places.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me though that Noel was taking a risk by allowing those fake inmates in there.
Someone gets really hurt....LAWSUIT !!!
And then "Can Man" Wilder gets involved...

Noel claimed he had cleaned up the jail 6 months into the job.
ReplyDeleteI believe this makes Noel look horribly inept!

I'd like to see a snapshot of the jail inmates and their charges.
ReplyDeleteBut WHY does it have to be on television? Besides your imaginary scenarios that is. That was the question.
ReplyDelete"Hiding it doesn't help anything."
Are those our only two choices? "Hiding it" or making a circus out of it?
ReplyDeleteHere is your snapshot for 2-11-2016 right out of the News and Tribune.

It DOESN'T have to be on television. But the powers that be choose that.
ReplyDeleteThat part doesn't bother me. It's exposed for what it is.
For years people haven't believed what goes on in there. Now they can see for themselves.

ReplyDeleteSupposedly they didn't know the cameras were for television.
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that is not true

ReplyDeleteIf so, did he keep that promise? Or not?

Well I know for a fact that it is
They were told a and e were filming. What would it be for if not tv??
DeleteEveryone knew EXACTLY what was going on. I'm not sure where you got your info or if you just made it up. Either way it's false.
DeleteIs Sheriff Noel trying to become the next Sheriff Joe Arpaio?
ReplyDeleteNoel has that short and fat guy syndrome.
ReplyDeleteI am beginning to think Sheriff Noel is a narcissist. This is over the top and our County Commissioners admitting they knew nothing of what went on with the filming is appalling.
