Once again we woke up yesterday to news of another tragic mass shooting, this time in Orlando Fl. where 49 people sadly lost their lives and scores more injured. What makes this event even more scary to us locally, is the arrest of a local man heavily armed in California who allegedly was going to target a Gay Pride celebration. Yes things like this can happen anywhere, even here and everyone needs to be aware and vigilant.
There is no answer and honestly no way of preventing these terrible events, sadly it is just a time we live in. As a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment The BatBlog still feels that measures need to be looked at to limit the ease of obtaining these assault type, semi automatic and automatic weapons.
While an outright ban would be extreme let's make a strenuous screening process mandatory and intensify back ground checks and waiting periods on these weapons that are killing machines.
Any and all attempts will never end violence though, especially in this day and age where killing , war, violence , prejudice and hate are so prevalent....Sadly It will never end...
Hate... and an AR-15

Nice thought but it'll never happen.
Anyone with machinist experience and the proper equipment can produce an AR15
which is totally untraceable. With a couple of more steps they can produce a
fully automatic version. All under the radar and no federal license attached.
This is happening now. I don't like it but there is little that can be done.
There are always loopholes which can be exploited.
I bought my AR legally under the "Brady Bill". As long as I didn't get the
dreaded bayonet lug or flash suppressor it wasn't a problem. What a joke!
I totally agree RF, it's sad that we almost have to accept the fact that it's just the world we live now where violence and hate is so prominent and these type killing will continue.
ReplyDeleteThe market for these killing machine is out there and legally or illegally they will continue to be the choice for the whackos bent on killing a lot of people in a short time....A tragic and dangerous time we live in now...
Why not a total ban? There is no sporting use or valid use of these weapons other than to kill people.
ReplyDeleteMany people hunt with an AR15. It's also a solid defensive weapon.
DeleteGun manufactures that fund the NRA have fed the paranoia to the point a lot gun owners feel any gun law will lead to complete confiscation of all guns by the government.
DeleteEven sensible, fair gun laws have no chance against the powerful gun lobby...

The Indiana man was stopped with assault rifles and explosives Sunday on his way to a gay pride event in Los Angeles
JEFFERSONVILLE — The James Wesley Howell that Jeffersonville knew was a quiet young man best known for walking his black Labrador, Midnight, through the streets of the well-to-do Louisville, Ky., suburb his parents called home.
But 30 minutes away in the small city of Charlestown, friends and a boyfriend told a different story. This Howell, they said, was a troubled and sometimes violent man who had a dangerous relationship with fast cars, big guns and many of the people closest to him.
It remains unclear why the Southern Indiana man was in Santa Monica, Calif., early Sunday, when he was stopped on his way to a gay pride event in Los Angeles. When Howell, 20, was arrested, police said they discovered three assault rifles, high-capacity magazines and ammunition in his car, along with a five-gallon bucket filled with explosive chemicals. He remains in jail there on a $500,000 bond. The FBI also is investigating.

of course this WILL NOT END... we have a Congress that is only interested in moments of silence, instead of doing anything constructive. too bad the automatic weapons ban was allowed to expire.
ReplyDeletetoo bad we have so many selfish people in this country that would rather have these types of weapons available so they can go out and target practice, or whatever, with them.
this Mateen guy was probably not a radicalized Muslim afterall... sounds more like a bitter homosexual, protesting too much about 2 men kissing... when he himself has turned up on gay hookup sites. and has been to Pulse on numerous occasions. sounds more like he was spurned by some man, probably latino in origin, and he got his revenge on the latino gay community.
Guns are not the problem. If people want to kill someone or kill mass amount of people they will find a way. The 2 biggest acts of terrorism on American soil were committed without using one gun or one bullet. 9-11 box cutters and airplanes were used an the Oklahoma Federal building feetilizer was used to make a bomb. Stop blaming guns the problem is so much more complex than that.
ReplyDeleteYes,but there have been so many more mass shootings than 9/11's and OKC's, that the more difficult we can make it for people to get these weapons, the better the average citizen will be.
DeleteIf the average citizen wants to be better off maybe they should learn to protect themselves and stop relying on other people to do it for them. Gun control has nothing to do with safety it's all about control
DeleteThe problem we have is that a few people think their right to own their toys are more important than the rights of 50 people to live!
ReplyDeleteI've come to the conclusion these killings are just something we will have just resign ourselves to that they are the world we live in. There is too much hate and prejudice everywhere, too many unstable, mentally ill people, too many drug addicts and dealers and of course the religiously fanatic jihadists. All of these types use violence as their method of living...
ReplyDeleteAs one poster said "guns are not the problem" which is very true but guns both legal and illegal are to easy to obtain by the wrong people. I don't have answer just hope and pray it never effects my family, friends, and acquaintances...or any innocent hard working person....
When will we learn that making things illegal will not stop people from getting their hands on them. With our governments ever-growing policy of allowing any and every illegal immigrant into the country with open arms and our unsecured borders all a ban will do is allow the guns to be brought across the border buy criminals to sell on the black market. The only thing a ban will do is take the guns from law abiding citizens. I'm pretty sure there is already a ban on killing people with these guns but those pesky criminals just won't comply with that ban so lets make snother ban and hopefully this time they will comply. Yeah that's great liberal logic
ReplyDeleteWhat ..just what would have been the result, if those club patrons had been carrying themselves? Even just one? They would not have been sitting ducks. There is hate. There is evil in this world. You can't legislate it away! Defend yourselves, loved ones and neighbors by owning a gun, train and practice to use it, and then carry it concealed.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things Sheriffs across America are telling YOU! Not everyone is suited to do so. But if just one in 10 did etc what would the result have been that night in the club?
there was a trained officer on site, and he did fire at the guy... so, someone did have a gun and guess what... it made diddly squat difference.
ReplyDelete"let's not try and do any legislation" that is so much bullshit.
Trump... endorses Obama/Democrats plan... meets with NRA. Because, afterall, the NRA is THE government where these awful Republicans in charge are concerned.
ReplyDeleteThey wouldn't even open up a vote on it. Despicable.
Keep trying to placate extremist and this is what you get, muslim extremist think negotiations are weakness. We as Americans think short term they think generational. They want are guns taking away, it makes it easier for them to complete their mission. If you want to give your rights away for so called false security fine but stop trying to take mine away. We better wake up and figure out who and what are true enemies are. IT'S NOT GUNS.
