Owen Voted City Council President

Maybe in an attempt to improve his attendance record the Jeffersonville City Council voted Matt "Lapdog" Owen as the new president of the council. Now with Owen being the top dog ...(no pun intended) possibly he will take his responsibilities more seriously, show up regularly and quit playing with his phone during meetings and listen to what is going on.

Actually being president of the council doesn't amount to much as they pass the leadership around like a hot potato. The shoes aren't too big to fill as past presidents have included  Moe Zastawny, Julius  and Gill so LapDog doesn't have to big of a standard to live up to...

Since we now have TWO members of the council just removed from puberty the expectations aren't very high  for this years council any way. Let's just hope we don't have any more members declaring they are running for mayor in the first couple of meetings, and then campaigning for four years ala 2012 and Julius. No more mini mayors either like in the past, and please play Word with Friends, Clash of Clans etc, etc. on your own time not the taxpayers....

  1. Matt Owen was elected president of the city council tonight.
It was not unanimous. At least there's at least one person still sitting with some sense.

Jeffersonville, a 2nd class city, now has a 25yr old EMT with a high-school education who spent most of his time at previous meetings playing on his phone, disconnected, with a short attention span at the head of it's city council. It sounded as if JN prepared a wonderful FB post for Owen to spread the news. We can't be that stupid of a city.

What a joke and God help us. The only bright spot is in the knowledge that it's inevitable the whole thing will eventually collapse and in a spectacular fashion would be my guess.

  2. Anon. I moved your comments from the other thread and posted them here..Thanks for the information.

I quit going to City council meetings a long time ago...a complete waste of time.I can stay home and be ignored by Mrs. HT and there is a whole lot less hot air here at home...

  3. Both of you are correct in your assessment!

  4. Trying to remember the names of people who originally supported this change in the local political landscape.

  5. The voters spoke on election day but performance doesn't take preference over name recognition in local elections. Owen did nothing to warrant reelection but his name is out there, so you get what you get.

  6. SR was a big supporter of this change!

  7. so was HT. Sadly. That is what happens when you base votes on a sense of revenge over petty things.

  8. Pretty sure you supported several repubs over the last few years and it has been their recent success that has led to things like this.

  9. Thank God for still having a busy teen at home...( Something to focus on instead of the sad state affairs from last night)...And that's what it is...Just sad that that's the best we can do as a city...I feel for the real adults on the council, and in other city offices, who have to deal with some of the repercussions of what the electorate "gifted" the city with.

  10. Jules is prteey much right on... but this just goes along with other poor decisions this council has made in the past 1) abolishing city court 2) the exorbitant amount spent on soccer field 3) the green team fiasco ...etc.

Owen obviously isn't the sharpest pencil in the box, lacks true life and political experiences, and hides behind JN... not exactly president material but nobody ever said this council makes smart decisions either ...so there you go...

I would be curious if anyone knows ??? How did the vote go who voted against LapDog ???

  12. I sure have supported some Republicans over the years and will continue to do so. There are some good Rep. office holders as well as Dem.s. To be a good, true Democrat which I consider myself, doesn't mean blindly supporting every Dem. candidate the party trots out.

The Democrats the party of the people is supposed to represent everyone and here locally it has become a clique and that's the reason you see the same old tired Democrats like Gilligan and "Toxic" John Perkins remain the face of the party even though their time has passed years ago.

In actuality party really isn't that important in local elections anyway and the BatBlog just tells it like it is ...sparing no party or individual...

The GOP and Noel has done a good job here locally in putting up new fresh faces and has had success in doing so...but a word of warning, stacking precinct committeemen with friends, supporters, relatives and coworkers works for only so long...

Noel is creating a clique just like Dem. have in the past and eventually the rank and file will come to realize it will jump up and bite him in the ass, just like it has the old , tired local Democratic jackasses that tried to stay relevant for too long and are failing miserably...

  13. I like Samuels though he has voted along with the majority a lot in the past. I would like him to stand up more on his own like he did in this vote...

As for Moe Zastawny he only voted against Owen because LapDog goes along with the mayor on most votes and we know Moe hates the mayor...

  14. So Zastawny does what you'd want, and not vote for Owen, and you still can't give him credit.

    Get over yourself.

  15. Award Winning Bat Interesting Observations

John Perkins, a Democrat, was elected and re-elected at a very young age.
Matt Owen, a Republican, was elected and re-elected at a very young age.

Mr. Perkins has been energetically involved
in the political process for a long time.

Mr. Owen is also been energetically involved
in the political process and will be
further involved for a very long time.

    John Perkins has been attacked
for being loyal to a political party
and Clark County Democrat Chairman Tom Galligan.

    Matt Owen has been attacked
for being loyal to a political party
and Clark County Republican Chairman Jamey Noel..

    The intelligent Hoosier Taxpayer
    has keenly pointed out:
"other poor decisions this council has made in the past":
    1) abolishing city court.,
    2) the exorbitant amount spent on soccer field.,
    3) the green team fiasco ...etc.

It is possible that Mr. Owen
    is learning
and it rumored that in his new role
    as President of the council,
he may begin working to remedy past youthful mistakes.

Matt Owen should read the Award Winning Bat Blog and take heed.

Award Winning Bat Blog Historical Analysis
John Perkins first ran for the city council and won in 1971, 45 years ago!
Matt Owen first ran for the city council and won in 2011.
    Forty-five years from then will be...2056 !

    Eventually Matt Owen
will remedy earlier mistakes like the city court's temporary abolition
    as he is very young.
Eventually, he will also be attacked like John Perkins.

Can you imagine if they combined their political efforts?
John Perkins would make another exceptional political mentor
and the resulting politics would be a lot
    of fun to watch!

  17. 3rd Dist. Voter is correct there are similar parallels between "Toxic" John and "LapDog".

Local voters aren't dumb they figured JP out after a couple of terms on the council and now while desperately trying to stay relative in local politics he finishes dead last in every race he enters....his only lifeline is the equally desperate Gilligan who along with JP is the anchor taking local Dems. to the bottom...

There is a lesson there for LapDog to fetch...

  18. Hoosier Taxpayer has very adroitly noted:
"The GOP and Noel have done a good job here locally
in putting up new fresh faces and have had success"..

Clark County Republican Chairman and Sheriff Jamey Noel has had remarkable success and is putting together excellent slates of candidates and establishing a sound political organization.

Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore is providing excellent leadership.

The combined efforts of Mayor Moore and Sheriff/Chairman Jamey Noel
going forward will make it very difficult
for the Democratic Party to regain
its once local level of success.

  19. Give credit to national democrats, and Obama for this change in local republican wins. Noel is pretty boring, if you talk to him.
Fox network gets credit as well!
I think I'm repeating what HT said previously, but Chuck Adams,Jacobi, Rodden, Perkins, T Perkins, and others have destroyed local confidence in Democrats.

  20. Calle Jahn on the redevelopment board. An obvious rubber stamp for Moore.
Would anyone put a 22 year old in charge of their 20 million dollar business? I doubt it. Only in Jeffersonville!

  23. Well, we have no choice in regards to Ms Jahn.

She'll do fine...Rubber-stamping is easy at any age.
