Special Election ??? We Don't think So...

It would be nice to know who actually won the City Council at large seats in the recent Jeffersonville city elections. Unfortunately we will probably never know for sure. Steve Webb (R) was named winner today by Judge Adams who declared the results certified by only two of the three  recount Commissioners was still valid by Indiana law. Both the recount as well as the counting of votes on absentee ballots on election night appears to be seriously flawed...Accusations of miscounting, sleeping counters and all  six of the candidates votes not being counted in the recount are being leveled and appeals by several candidates to Judge Adam's decision will reportedly be filed.

Dustin White representing candidate Ron Ellis(D) reportedly will ask for a special election.  In theory Mr. White's request sounds good, but the BatBlog also doesn't think it would be fair or feasible. The chances of getting everyone who voted back to the polls for a "special" election is ZERO. It's hard enough to get voters to vote no matter what, so chances are the turnout would be minuscule for a Councilman at large race only. A poor percentage turnout would  skew the original results and also nullify the voters who voted in Nov. but couldn't make the special election, plus the prohibitive cost of putting on another election...

In the end the BatBlog wonders why "Toxic" John Perkins signed the original tally then refused to certify what he already signed ???  The BatBlog also feels Judge Adam's ruling will stand ...but we will never know who actually won ala Bush vs. Gore  2000......

Recount ...Update

*******************************BREAKING UPDATE ************************************
Exclusively released to the BatBlog comments by Josh Rodriquez's and Goliath's lawyer David Mosley on the just concluded recount for the Jeffersonville City Council at large seats. When questioned about John Perkins not signing the certification of the Recount Commission. Mr . Mosley responded (See below)
**************************************************************************************************************************************
In this case Perkins' concerns are legitimate.
I have the spread sheet from both election night
and the recount. In 27 of 30 precincts, it looks
like the machine tallies were quite accurate.
The precincts at Maple Elemenatry (4 and 5)
together showed Josh losing 100 votes and
Webb gaining 20. That's insane. I did this
last year and saw how variations occur over
more than 80 county wide precincts. Something
really really wrong happened.

Mr. Mosley went on to say :

Meanwhile, it is quite clear that the Recount
commission did NOT credit votes that were
tallied by their own count teams. This was just
stupifying since it's very hard to understand
how you can see 18 tally marks,  see '18'
beside them....see the number initialed by the
count team, see that 18 is the exact number
from election night....and simply refuse to
count those 18 votes. But...that happened.

I also feel that the bulk of the ballots that
Mr. Webb challenged and which will be reviewed
by the judge will be found to be valid and added
to the count. We'll see.

Please note, that this was 1. Wadsworth R
nominated by Webb.  2. Mobley R (and sheriff's
employee) nominated by Webb. (I nominated Susan
Clark who did the recount last year as a 'neutral'
from the machine mfr.)  and 3. Perkins. D nominated
by my client.

The Fly in the Ointment...Toxic John and the Recount

Whenever there is controversy in the local political scene usually "Toxic John" Perkins is somewhere close around. Whether it's being appointed to a position he has no chance of winning (County Commissioner) to filing for an election in a place he doesn't reside. or "Toxic" John just being Toxic....

The latest is J.P. refusing to sign the certification of the recently completed recount by the Recount Commission for the in question Jeffersonville City council at large seats. The question is.... Is this just another case of "Toxic" John being toxic or does he have a legitimate complaint about the process ???
In the N/T article Perkins complains of changing counter teams that were unsure of the process to sleeping counters and vote total discrepancies.

The BatBlog has no insight or inside information from the recently completed recount process so we like everyone else are left wondering. Is "Toxic John" just being difficult as he has a tendency to be ???  Are his complaints legitimate ?? Is the whole process flawed ???  Who and why in the hell knowing Perkin's history why would anyone appoint him to anything including a recount commission ???   Sherrif Jamey Noel went as far to say "John Perkins is the most unprofessional person I've ever seen in a hearing of this type of hearing."Is this just politics as usual ???  Finally is this another Bush/ Gore election to be decided in court ???

Hopefully our friend Goliath's lawyer who represents one of the candidates and was involved in the process will weigh in...He may be limited to what he can say due to the on going court process but it would be nice to here from someone involved and in the know....

Woo Declines Wall of Fame Spot...

Woo has relinquished the prestigious  honor of being named to the BatBlog's  CCC "Wall of Fame." Whatever his reasoning he wants a Chatter Chick to replace him ....Since there are already several chatter chicks on the wall...We'll leave it up to Woo to choose his replacement..

Woo needs to realize the position is non refundable and he also forfeits the prize package that goes along with the honor...The balls in your court Woo...Who will it be ???

The CCC Wall of Fame...

The "Award Winning" BatBlog proudly presents The Clark County Chatter Wall of Fame....

It was a tough decision narrowing it down to just 10 people, there are a lot of interesting people in Jeff and Clark Co. and who are great contributors to the CCC past and present. Don't be offended if you didn't make the list it's a combination of people the BatBlog finds most interesting, people who have been an important part of the history of the CCC, long time members and those you voted on in the poll...Congratulations to the winners...

Top (From Left to Right)
_______________________

SuperMike - Founder and creator  and 1st Administrator of the CCC. SuperMike was outstanding with the technical work thru several changes in the software and fair moderator who allowed individuals to be themselves...

Professor No. 2 - Along with GG took over Administrator/ Moderator when Supermike stepped aside. A kind, gentle. polite man who was the nicest, most considerate poster in CCC history and an educator in real life...
Rest In Peace Professor....

Grumpy Granny - Belies her screen name she's really a teddy bear who took over the reins and has been a fair and conscientious guardian over the CCC for a long time now. The BatBlog and GG has had their differences, but I still have great respect and regard for her and consider her a friend...

Jules -  A member from the very beginning, she is the voice of reason who brings everybody down to earth when things have gotten crazy...A thoughtful, kind lady who speaks from the heart from her many life experiences...

Chopperwoman - Always polite, Chopper has been there from the beginning as well. This nice lady along with Jules set a great example for those who get boisterous and helps keep the CCC well grounded and respectful....

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Bottom (L to R)

BikerDude - A tough, talented man with a big heart... especially to our four legged friends. Dude tells it like he sees it ,in his own incomparable way....

RiverFox - He's the CCC's research and historical expert, who has a sharp and biting sense of humor the kind of which the BatBlog loves...

Person non Grata/ TrackRat -  A Master of witty sarcasm has always been one of the BatBlog's favorite posters...

Pesty Ver.1 - Goliath's not so loyal minion, who has kept the local internet scene interesting to say the least...hopefully GAW will rise once again...

Cindi Loo Hoo - One of the original "Chatter Chicks",  a very nice lady but you don't want to get on her wrong side...Her biting , satirical sense of humor sets her apart and likewise has been a BatBlog favorite...

Woo - Did a good job as moderator early on, an ally of the BatBlog on the local political scene...if I could just could convince him Obama isn't that bad (LOL)...Woo is a good poster on a lot of different subjects (some that we don't agree on)...
___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Honorable Mentions: As I said before a lot of intelligent, thoughtful people on the CCC and I know I'm forgetting some (I'm old) that could just as easily made the above list and might be on yours. Just to mention a few...

Kelley - Always well written and informed Kelley's work on behalf of the homeless should be commended

Tina - "Tinacious" aka Tina will be a great public servant in what ever her future holds, she does her homework, is determined in her beliefs and informs the people like she has on the Chatter on the issues....

NSBHM - He probably would have made the Wall as he along with SuperMike were responsible for starting the CCC. For whatever his reason's were, his personal tirade's against the mayor really hurt  his credibility. I know he had a tough year personally and hopefully he can find some peace...

Snowman - Give him credit he's outnumbered but he keeps the good fight alive for all the liberals and those like myself who realize Obama has been pretty good all in all...

Donna - You can always count on Donna when the Chatter's floundering to keep it alive and she is very open minded to all opinions...

Savile Row - You can count on SR to provide a plethora of useful and some not so useful information in his own classical style...

Integrity Matters and Captain Picard -  I grouped them together because they are the champions of keeping us informed on the School board and education...Thank you for caring and sharing about the kids and the schools...

Rick Stephenson and Kevin Vissing - As elected officials thank you for the courage to post on the CCC and BatBlog. Many have promised before to keep the public informed but you two continue to answer the tough question and sometimes criticism from the public////

Merry Christmas to Us

Early Christmas presents were in order for a body of local government...presented to themselves.
As predicted earlier by the BatBlog  the Jeffersonville City council unanimously voted themselves hefty pay raises. In the process proving once again what hypocrites they are. This is the same council that in the name of fiscal responsibility eliminated Jeffersonville City court and has de-funded positions and jobs in Jeffersonville in the guise of being responsible and prudent caretakers of our tax dollars.

This self serving move exposes them more as liars and thieves, than the civil servants  they were elected to be. They have insulted  the taxpayer's intelligence by pretending to be something they are NOT.... responsible guardians of tax dollars and true public servants...

The two councilmen who abstained Webb and Samuels look more like cowards by abstaining to vote. Surely they have an opinion on the matter and if they didn't feel comfortable voting on their own pay raise they should have had the courage to vote NO.....

The BatBlog believes elected officials should never be given the right to vote themselves raises. The BatBlog would also like to see pay deducted from the councilmen/ women who don't always show up for meeting. They already are paid more than what they're worth, not attending is a form of theft in our opinion....Are you listening Matt "Lapdog" Owen ?????

The Abraham Lincoln Bridge ....Come On.... Really ???

The BatBlog loves Abraham Lincoln and what he stood for as much as anyone...but come on... something else named after Lincoln. The state of Kentucky (and by the way what gives them the right to name the bridge) used virtually no imagination or originality in coming up with the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge. The BatBlog has found at least two other Lincoln bridges one already in Indiana and there are numerous other thing named after ole Abe. .

Reportedly KFC was lobbying for the Colonel Harlan Sanders Bridge which would have been a marketing jackpot...."It's finger lickin good"...Muhammed Ali has been over used as well and both Kentucky and Indiana seem to have a shortage of people deserving to have a bridge named after them. In actuality the Colonel Sanders Bridge doesn't sound too bad after all,,,Any better ideas ???

Gun Violence, A Sign of The Times

Once again gun violence, mass shootings and terrorism where in the headlines this week. While the Republicans said the victims and families are "in our prayers" and the Democrats cried out for stronger gun control laws the sad matter is nothing will change, violence will continue...

Lets face facts, human beings are a violent species. Since the time of Cain and Abel humans have killed each other and will continue to do so. There is fighting and terrorism in nearly ever corner of the world. It is a sad and tragic for the innocent victims unfairly targeted but let's be realistic it's a sign of the times ...terrorism, war , and mass murders are part of who we are.

While gun laws could use a little tweaking and background checks need to be more stringent they will never stop  hate and violence from occurring. Hate among religions, cultures and ethnics  is too widespread and will continue to grow. Unfairly or not, distrust of all Muslims by Americans is prevalent and growing stronger as is the faction of Muslims that hate Americans. Black Americans mistrust police and police are just as distrustful of young black men....It is a viscous circle that can't be legislated or removed, it would nice if we could come together and sing Cum by yah but it will never happen...Hate, violence and war are here to stay, that's just who we are....

Another Sore Loser ???

While not disparaging winning mayoral candidate Mike Moore like Tom Galligan did four years ago loser Dennis Julius has been curiously quiet since his defeat. No thank yous to his supporters on his "Julius for Mayor" Facebook site, and closing out his personal facebook account. Did he congratulate Moore ??? Did "Moe" Zastawny, Sellers or Smith congratulate the mayor ???

It would be nice if the losing candidates would be more gracious in defeat ...congratulate the winners and concentrate on moving on and working together for the betterment of the City....but don't hold your breath....

Everybody Doesn't Love A Parade...

Seems like some of the folks on the Clark County Chatter don't like a parade, especially a Gay pride parade..... like the one proposed by a local student this coming June in Jeffersonville. The BatBlog thinks the proposed parade is a great idea,,,, a way for gay area residents to share and celebrate their lifestyles and culture.

The young student trying to put together the event seems like a very perceptive, intelligent young man wanting everyone to learn and celebrate  the gay lifestyle so as to bring about awareness where we can all live together without discrimination, distrust and hatred. Which is a great goal to try and attain in this diverse new world....

Wouldn't it be nice to see Quasar and Oldgoat in pink chiffon plumed outfits walking hand in hand with the gay community in the parade...and to better educate others ,Jeff could also have a redneck, wingnut appreciation day for others to better understand them as well...

Everybody Loves a Parade....

City Council Vote....You Know How This One Will Go

The BatBlog asked City councilman Ed "Moe" Zastawny

Q; Will you be voting yourself a pay raise ???

You can bet the house that the forthcoming vote by the Jeffersonville city council to give themselves a pay raise will be approved. Never mind that this would make them a bunch of hypocrites (again) after crying fiscal responsibility in eliminating Jeffersonville City court last year. It isn't the first time this council has spoken out of both sides of their collective mouths on being responsible and smart management of our tax dollars. The Woehrle soccer complex is apparently in line for another cool million to be spent on locker rooms by these hypocrites.

We all know the elimination of the Jeff city court was a political hatchet job instituted by Matt (Lapdog) Owen and most likely influenced by sheriff Jamey Noel. Owen isn't smart enough to think this up on his own...and even if he was he wouldn't have the balls unless someone was backing him. The lie of eliminating the court for financial considerations not only exasperated but insulted the intelligence of the residents and voters of Jeffersonville.

So moving forward the BatBlog predicts the Jeffersonville populace will be paying more for the stupid , hypocritical decisions made by this council and we can only hope that the makeup of the new council in 2016 will bring some needed honesty and common sense...

***  On a side note Dale Moss'  FLUFF PIECE  in the N/T on Ed "Moe" (am I a Rep. or a Dem ?.) Zastawny, mentioned the picture of Moe sitting in the Dem. party booth and posted here on The BatBlog.... Notice the Julius for Mayor T-shirt....

Recounts ????

****************************Breaking News A BatBlog Exclusive*****************************
County Councilman Kevin Vissing (D) has announced exclusively to the "award winning" BatBlog that he will file for a recount tomorrow morning in his Dist. 3 Jeffersonville City council race against  Callie Jahn (R).  Vissing said he also expects Steve Webb (R) to file in his council at large race.....

Note: Once again the BatBlog out scoops all major local media News/Tribune. Courier Journal and all local TV news....

*************************************************************************************************
Candidates from both parties have until tomorrow I believe to file for recounts for the recent 2015 election. Has anyone heard of any plans to do so ??? The  City council at large races were very close for several of the candidates, as was Kevin Vissing's race against Callie Jahn in Dist.2. As close as these races were the BatBlog believes a recount would be a foregone conclusion and necassary. Maybe KV will weigh in on this....

The CCC Wall of Fame ....New Poll Up

As promised after the election the BatBlog will announce a Clark County Chatter "Wall of Fame", included is a poll to the right to vote on your favorite poster or somebody worthy of the "Wall of Fame" These are off the top of my head so forgive me if I left someone out. This poll is merely a guide, the winners will be at the sole discretion of the BatBlog. Also write in votes are welcome because as I said I'm sure I left some worthy posters out...Leave your write in votes in the comments section

Also automatic inductees to the "Wall" will be SuperMike who started the CCC and the late Professor2 who was a great moderator early on and a super nice man Also a special thanks to Rick Stephenson and Kevin Vissing  they are a couple of  the few office holders with the courage to answer the tough questions publically ...Also multiple votes are acceptable... Be Sure To Vote !!!!

NOTE...How could I forget BikerDude...Sorry Dude... but I'm sure no one will have a problem putting the Dude right on the "Wall of Fame" he totally slipped my mind and you can't add once the poll is started....The Dude  would have been near the top so he's automatically on....

Patronage Jobs...

There currently is a discussion on the local internet forum Clark County Chatter about political patronage jobs.  CLICK HERE  In particular is a dept. head recently released by mayor Mike Moore. The BatBlog's take on this is that anyone taking a patronage job is pretty naive to think these jobs are anything more than what they are. They are for patronage and paybacks to supporters of candidates who win election.

Each elected official if in a position to hire or fire may have a certain criteria he /she follows but these jobs are filled and refilled at the whim of the office holder. That's just the nature of the political beast, and let's be honest 99% of these jobs aren't brain surgery and no specific skills are required.

So if in this particular situation if this is being used as a thinly veiled criticism of Jeffersonville mayor Mike Moore the BatBlog says Come On !!! Every patronage job is issued and rescinded at the discretion of the winning candidate. It may not sound fair but that's just the way it is, they all do it.So if if you have a problem with the way the system works The BatBlog suggests if  offered a "patronage " job... respectfully turn it down....
THANK YOU VETERANS !!!

Thank You and Honoring all that served especially my late father...

Happy Veteran's Day Dad !!!

Moving Forward....After the Election

The BatBlog asked  three of Jeffersonville's City councilpersons for their reaction to Mike Moore's victory....

The 2015 Elections are history other than possible recounts, so what does the future hold ??? Re-elected mayor Mike Moore has an opportunity for a fresh start and to connect with a fairly new city council. The "Obstructionist 5" (Ed "Moe" Z, Julius, Sellers, Smith and Gill) are history, as only Moe and Gill return to office. The new councilmen and councilwoman should be more willing to work with the mayor than the "Obstructionist 5" were. They played politics from day 1 of the Moore administration, and appeared only interested in replacing Moore with Julius, and blocking or delaying the majority of the mayor's projects in order to improve the Julius candidacy.

Moore has said he will reach out to the new council and hopes to heal wounds and have a better relationship.. The key will be Gill and "Moe", will they put aside their obvious dislike/jealousy of MM in order to progress forward or continue their obstructionist ways ??? Both are of the same party as the mayor (though Moe doesn't seem quite sure), both also have the tendency to think they are mini-mayors, nitpicking, micromanaging and delaying projects.

Gill and Moe need to realizee for the second straight time the people have chosen Moore to lead the city. Their job is too fund projects and enact ordinances, not micro analyze or create their own projects...they are NOT the Executive branch and the sooner they realize this the better off we the citizens will be...

As for the future Jeffersonville mayor Moore's main priority Priority 1... has to be improving traffic movement and the highway and road infrastructure. The east end traffic situation is terrible, especially the Hwy.62 corridor and the Holman Ln./ Allison Ln. thru to Utica Pike area. Either a new corridor to Veterans Pkwy. or widening Holman to four lanes is essential, adding a turning lane just won't get it...

Moore's projects, the entryway and 10th St. improvement are right on track, the jobs and economical outlook are  growing enormously, three of the "Obstruction 5" will be gone ...the future looks bright....

Taking Up For the Good People...

There are some scoundrels in politics but don't get us wrong there are good people as well. One of them is Susan Popp (D) Clark Co. Clerk.

Election night it appears that some ranking GOP officials mostly to themselves but some comments were made to the press having fun blaming Ms. Popp for the computer snafu involving the counting of  the absentee ballots.

A new system was in place this year and for the 1st time absentee ballots were counted at the central count location at the county courthouse. A computer programming error caused the problem, but on a night when all was going well, the GOP bigwigs thought it hilarious a Dem. might have screwed up...

That BatBlog's message....Ms. Popp is one of the good people in office. The problem had nothing to do with politics and Susan was free from blame. Be humble in victory as well as defeat because every dog has his day......

Missing in Action... NHBSM and Kruger....

NHBSM ???
Fellow CCC members seem genuinely concerned about brothers in arms CLICK HERE... NHBSM and Kruger both have apparently disappeared.

They been crying on the internet for 4 straight years after flipping on the Jeff mayor ...actually 8  years because they cried about Galligan until they flip flopped first for him and then against and now back for him....confusing isn't it....

Rumor is they moved to Pekin (HT's hometown) looking for political positions...Pekinites aren't too politically savvy

Anyway I hope NH isn't in San Francisco as I found this photo from the Golden Gate Bridge the resemblance is remarkable.....

Feuding Democrats

City councilman at large candidate Ron Ellis (D) is pretty upset and calls out Dem. party county chairman Tom Galligan  " needs to resign get back in a bulldozer and let someone with leadership skills guide our party" also according to Ellis "There has been so much manipulation of the vote totals for the council at large seats, there will have to be a recount to see who wins."

Four More Moore Years....2015 Election Rundown

The people have spoken and riding a wave of unparalleled growth mayor Mike Moore won a 2nd term as the mayor of Jeffersonville, and deservedly so. While his relationship with the city council has been contentious at best, the people of Jeffersonville showed they are Moore than pleased with his leadership and awarded him four Moore years of leading the city into the future.

The Republican party once again has put it's boot on the throat of the struggling Democrats, who managed to win only two city council seats and an uncontested City clerk position. The beat down was so complete that 2 of the 3 Democrat winners had no GOP contender making one wonder what would have happened had the GOP had candidates in all the races.

Kevin Vissing in Dist, 3 is only 33 votes behind pending  absentee vote counting in his race against Callie Jahn so there is some hope for Dem.s there. Kevin worked hard and deserves a win....

Hopefully everyone will get behind mayor Moore now, but already there are disparaging remarks on Facebook about Moore's win and those who voted for him. One only needs to look around, go down to the riverfront and see the exciting change and improvement on the new "Fisherman's Wharf". Lots to look forward to in the next four years but also a lot of work especially improving the traffic infrastructure that we are rapidly outgrowing...

It's an exciting time and The BatBlog is looking forward to  Four More Moore years !!!

Note : Pending changes from absentee votes the BatPoll was a perfect 9 out of 9 and HT correctly picked 7 of the 9 winners in today's election.... wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather

2015 BatBlog Election Eve Special...

The campaigning is just about done and tomorrow the votes will be cast in the 2015 Jeffersonville city elections. The BatBlog presents it's Election Eve Special with one last look at the races at who might win and a guide on who to vote for...Let's look at the races....

GCCC School Referendum - Referendum to update Greater Clark schools, voters
will decide whether to adopt GCCS's plan that will raise taxes. Voters hate to vote tax increases and the GCCS's administration and school board have doomed this to failure by failing to be open and upfront with the public on the exact plans. The BatBlog says vote NO as this referendum will fail by a 2 to 1 margin..

City Council Dist.1 - Dustin White (D) beat a crowded field in the primary and should win election to the council against Independent Brett Wilson look for White to get about 60% of the votes...BatBlog recommends to vote for White...

City Council Dist. 2 - Ed "Moe" Zastawny (R) unopposed in Dist,2 ...BatBlog recommends don't vote...

City Council Dist. 3 -  Current county councilman Kevin Vissing (D) faces newcomer Callie Jahn (R). This could be a close race but K.V. is the obvious, smart choice for voters, Jahn
hasn't even been registered to vote before and her boyfriend when on the council had a terrible attendance record. K.V. is an experienced, dedicated office holder who will serve the people...K.V. in a close one....

City Council Dist. 4 -  Scottie Maples (R) a member of the Clark Co, sheriff's dept. faces Dem. Albert Frazier. The BatBlog doesn't like double dippers so the choice is Frazier, but look for Maples to win. Maples has the name recognition so important in local politics.

City Council Dist. 5 -  Incumbent (R) Lisa Gill faces Keith "Crapper Flapper" Fetz, This could be another close race, Fetz has  name recognition from an earlier stint on the council and a following among voters. Gill is one of the Obstructionist 5 who opposes the mayor on everything. The BatBlog can't recommend either candidate but gives a slight, edge to Gill, but wouldn't be surprised if Fetz wins.

City Council Dist. 6 - The BatBlog doesn't know a lot about the Dist. 6 candidates where newcomers Scott Hawkins (R) takes on  Teri Hicks (R). Based on the results from the BatPoll we think Hawkins will win big over Hicks.

City Council (At Large) - Six candidates three from each party face off in the council at large seats. The BatBlog feels Ron Ellis (D), Nathan Samuel (D) and Steve Webb (R) are the smart choices for Jeffersonville voters. The BatBlog feels strongly that Matt "Lapdog" Owen needs to Go. Poor attendance record, unwise decisions and being the "Lapdog" to Jamey Noel make Owen a poor option, but on name recognition alone he has a legitimate shot at reelection. This could be a close race with everyone but Cooley in the hunt for the seats....but the BatBlog sticks with it's choices Ellis , Samuel and Webb....

Mayor - The BatBlog endorsed Mike Moore in yesterday's post CLICK HERE but as we go to press this race is too close too call...Moore deserves another term ,but issues with the city council and other personal actions make this race a toss up...Julius has shown no leadership qualities but there will be a lot of just anti- Moore votes. The winner will be who can best get their supporters to the Polls...Prediction 52% - 48%  Moore....but it could easily be the other way with Julius winning....

Be Sure To Vote !!!

The Jeffersonville Mayor's Race...An Easy Choice ???

The Jeffersonville mayor's race has become a hotly contested race between incumbent Mike Moore (R) and challenger city councilman Dennis Julius (D). Earlier at first glance with all the recent unparalleled growth of the downtown and east end sectors the BatBlog thought that Moore would have an easy path to reelection. While Moore still remains the favorite ,the way we see it, it will be closer than imagined early on and a Julius upset isn't out of the question...

Several factors have increased Julius chances from average to fairly good of winning election. First is the contentious relationship between the Moore and the Jeffersonville City council. To call the relationship strained is an understatement, the spasm is deep and personal with council members of Moore's own party the GOP openly working against his reelection bid. There have been reports of one or more of these Rep. council members actually going door to door with Julius, something unheard of in political circles. Julius has wisely used this chasm as a key campaign issue.

The blame for the rift can pointed in both directions. There is a faction of the council that will never except Moore or his ideas due to their foolish allegiance and ties to former mayor Galligan. Unfortunately Moore instead of taking the high road and accepting that for what it is, attempted to bully his way around and through the council and at times looking foolish in the process of directing anger toward them. This strained the  dealing with those members who may have been neutral and has nearly pushed away the entire council except for Matt Owen. Moore hasn't helped himself in the regard, he should have fought his battles quietly, the public is now aware and voters don't like squabbling government entities.

Another factor helping Julius is the Galligan bloc of older voters from the 2011 election. They  also will never accept Moore or forgiven him for baeting TG, no matter how much the city grows and prospers. They are older and old people go to the polls in bigger majorities than younger voters. The Galligan bloc is a minority of total voters but their propensity to vote regularly will be a factor helping Julius.

Having said all that ,there is no denying that the City of Jeffersonville has flourished during the term of Mike Moore. Detractors will say luck and timing  contributed to this success and no doubt there is some truth to that. With the bridges projects and the expanding growth of River Ridge, Jeffersonville is busting at the seams in unparalleled progress. This progress is undeniable and Mike Moore has shown the hard nosed grittiness to get things done and move forward with his ideas. This grittiness has in the process pissed some people off, but in the end he has shown the strong determined leadership qualities that are necessary for the mayoral position.

Julius even when presented opportunities has not shown the leadership ability needed for the job. He could have stepped forward when the council made unwise decisions. Example when motions were made to eliminate Jeff city court he could have stepped forward and made a difference. Same way with the soccer field issue. The controversy about the median landscaping ...if he had organized his followers or brought his workers to clean up the mess was another chance to show leadership but it passed him by.

Bottom line if you go over the last four year it has been successful and good things are happening here locally. Mike Moore though not perfect deserves another term. Julius has not exhibited any leadership qualities, that would make him an acceptable choice...This is an easy choice and the BatBlog endorses Mike Moore for mayor of Jeffersonville....

Tomorrow the BatBlog election eve special....were we relook at the races, predict winners and recommend who to vote for...

Poor Ole Moe !!!

Let's all get get our crying towels out and give Jeffersonville  city councilman Ed "Moe" Zastawny a shoulder to cry on and a big hug. It appears that poor Moe wasn't consulted by Jeff mayor Mike Moore on the "Wall of Champions" a dedication to some of the important people in Jeffersonville history. Poor Ole Moe claims he didn't even know about the "Wall" until he received an invitation to the dedication ceremony. Waaahhhh !!!  Waaahhh !!!!

Here's an idea for Moe get your head out of your ass and look around...The "Wall of Champions" has been in the planning for quite a while now  (over a year and a half) and there was an article in the N/T about it. The city council also has two appointments to the Redevelopment Commission which created and approved the project months ago...So man up and quit your crying and try and pay attention to what's going on .....

Here's another idea Moe, do YOUR job and quit trying to run the whole city. The city council is the fiscal body to pay the city bills, the council is NOT the executive branch...If you want to act like a mayor grow some balls and run for the office.... in the meantime quit crying it makes you look more childish and stupid than you really are....

UPDATE...  Now ole Moe is crawfishing , saying he DID know about the Wall just not the location...Which is it Moe ??  I guess he realized how stupid he looked not knowing what was going on....him and his fellow council members that he threw under the bus . My guess the fellow members that Moe said didn't know  about the wall either are Sellers, Smith, Gill, Samuel and Julius  (the anti Moore coalition)...  Its all  politics my friends, once again trying to make the mayor look bad right before the election....but this was a very stupid attempt....Stupid does as stupid is ...

Tomorrow Batblog unveils it's Jeffersonville's Wall of Fame

Conversations With the Commissioner....

A message from Clark Co. Commissioner Rick Stephenson :

I want to thank everyone for their comments regarding me setting aside a night that anyone can meet with me and ask any questions they might have about the county. The results were overwhelmingly in favor of the idea.  I have decided to have the meetings on the 2nd Monday of every month at 6pm. I will have the first meeting on November 9th. The meetings will be held in the Commissioner's office on the 4th floor of the County Building. I have decided to call these meetings "Conversations with the Commissioner", I know, kind of hokey but I have to call it something.

I will listen to your issues and try to make them right. Understand that some of the issues might need some research, so you might not get an answer that evening. Also note that this will just be me, I will be working without a net. I will not have the county attorney present to answer any legal questions. I can only address issues that pertain to the County Government. If you have any questions about other offices of county government all I can do is forward that question to the appropriate office holder.

These meetings will be very informal and as the name implies, we will just be talking about issues that one might have with me or county government. I do not want to put to many rules in place that might hamper the open communication. We are going to play this by ear and see how it goes.

As always, anyone can contact me with issues by phone or e-mail. Phone number is 502-468-9325. E-mail isRickyWStephenson@yahoo.com. Also if you really need to speak to me in person and can not make the meetings on the second monday of the month drop me an e-mail or give me a call. I will meet you some place and some time more convienent for you.

Any group that would like for me to come and speak please contact me and let's set up a date.

The Jeffersonville Mayors Race ...Lies. Lies and More Lies and a Few Honest Points and Rules

Let's be honest which is hard to do when talking about Jeffersonville politics especially the current mayoral race between incumbent Mike Moore (R) and Dennis Julius (D). First a few honest points

1.) Probably about 85%  of Jeffersonville residents could give a rat's ass who the mayor is

2.) You CAN"T believe ANYTHING local  village idiot NHBSM says about current mayor Mike Moore. Not Honest has blown smoke up the asses up every mayoral candidate since probably the beginning of the century in order to presumably get a political appointment. After being dumped or looked over for a political position Not Honest turns on the candidate that he blew the smoke up their ass quicker than you can dump an ugly blind date...which brings us to Rule 1 in Jeff politics...

Rule 1,  which a lot of people have discovered ....Don't believe a word coming from NHBSM's mouth. You really have to wonder about this dude....seriously

The third honest point is 3.) ALL Politicians take credit for everything good that happens during their term. Whether they planned it, initiated it, finished it or had nothing to do with it, if it happened during their term in office , they take credit for it....Since the first politician Adam ,this has been the case and if something bad happens, blame some one else like Eve...which brings us to Rule 2.

Rule 2. Don't pay ANY attention to any claims about who has done what or who was responsible for this or that...It's all a smoke and mirrors game by politicians and they ALL play it...

Lies, Lies, Lies

The lies and claims of opponent lying are flying fast and furious this year. The BIG LIE and probably  the only provable lie is coming from Dem. candidate Dennis Julius. Julius claims he didn't vote FOR his own firm (Walnut Ridge) being awarded a million dollar contract to do the controversial landscaping of the 10th St. medians. Julius says he abstained...the public record (Minutes from the meeting ) says different ....the vote was unanimous. Unanimous means unanimous, no abstentions were noted and the minutes were verified by those attending  which is procedure...Excuses have been made , affidavits written which doesn't mean a hill of beans...the only record and it is the official record will state FOREVER the vote was UNANIMOUS by all those members  attending....Julius LIED ....

The main lies Moore is accused of ...The city council hasn't provided enough police and firemen per the annexation agreement , is much harder to pin down or prove one way or another. As is Moore's claim that sewer funds went toward the original canal plans...

The annexation which neither candidate was part of was real cluster f _ _ _ from day one and full of lies all the way through. There are so many differing numbers, excuses and lies surrounding it I don't know how anyone can separate fact from fiction.

Same way with sewer funds, money has been manipulated and always will be by government.... to say for fact that money from sewer funds was or wasn't spent for Galligan's Gully is unprovable one way or another....

Rule 3. A lot of claims and counter claims will be made, sort them out carefully a lot of them are pure bullshit some have merit ....decide accordingly...

Voters will make their choices for a lot of different reasons come Election day. By party, for personal reasons, name recognition etc. Rule 4 probably isn't always the main factor ...but should be

Rule 4. Make an educated vote on leadership ability and best qualifications for the job but do your part and be sure to VOTE !!!
