Can't We Just Get Along...

*****************************************BREAKING UPDATE*****************************            As predicted by the BatBlog the dumbass City council moved tonight to have the Jeff City court eliminated citing financial costs... Coincidence the same day suit was filed ??? We think not, this has the distinct rotten smell of politics..... stay tuned for more on this developing story....
********************************************************************************************************************************

I guess Jeffersonville Democrats didn't hear about the county beatdown of Dem.s by the GOP. Two Democrat officeholders City clerk Vicki Conlin and City Judge Kenneth Pierce are in a pissing contest over some files with Conlin filing suit against Pierce. To make matters worse some of the idiots on the City Council are threatening to shut down the City Court and Pierce.

Nice move Democrats.... give the GOP more ammunition  and another reason to remove two more Dem. positions to the Rep.s in the next city elections. The GOP is laughing all the way to the polls ... Get your act together ...surely this can be settled without a lawsuit that will just fritter away more taxpayer's money ... Larry "the CanMan" Wilder is making quite the reputation and $$$ suing the City and City offices...

Can't we just get along...Judge Pierce is one of the good guys surely some agreement can be reached before the dumb asses on the council do away with the court and then put a heavier burden on the already over stretched to it's limit Circuit Court...But then, when was anything around here ever done logically or sensibly ???

  1. Power play by Conlin and her buddies on the city council. Pierce stands up for what is right and Conlin plays the political card because Pierce isn't a team player. Just more political bull shit and drama instead of just doing their jobs.

I hope the republicans clean house in the city elections too.

  2. They are idiots on the council, they said the court was not producing enough revenue. Since when does and any government service produce revenue. If they eliminated every non revenue government office or service we wouldn't have any left. No police , no FD etc.

  3. Once again you have for the most part a council that has no idea the best solution for the problem.

Recently elected Judge Jacobs told them it was a mistake to abolish the court. Did the council listen to somebody that has actual experience in this field like Jacobs ??? No they like blind sheep go out on there own and make a stupid decision that effects the personal safety of the residents of Jeffersonville ....

  4. Considering Matt Owen put it on the agenda, Pierce mentioned ISP not sending cases his way, & the sister of an ISP officer voting to do away with city court, anyone want to guess where this power play got started?

Ed Z voting against doing away with it shocks me. I thought he was good buddies with Conlin.

Dennis Julius voting to do away with city court will put the bullet in his foot.

Now, any bets on if Conlin changes her party registration to R like she's rumored for years? Now that she helps crash and burn the Ds before she does?

  5. If the town council is all about saving money they should look at eliminating half the cops that congregate at McDonald's, take home vehicles, city provided cell phones and computers. Of course that will never happen because this council is too self serving.

  8. Everyone should contact their council person and say they are against this action.

  9. As someone that deals with the city courts I can tell the personal war between ISP and Jeff City court has been going on for a while. The end result is the county is going to have to add another court to cover all these new cases and the cost pushed to all county tax payers.

  10. What power does the city court or city council have to force more cases toward the court? The math seems hard to argue with.

If there is no way to increase the case load, how can the financial loss be justified?

  11. The city council pushes cases to the county by shutting down the court. Those cases don't disappear. They get filed in County Circuit courts.

It's not correct to say the caseload can't be increased either.

The Jeff City and Clarksville town have a case allocation plan. It takes all misdemeanors and splits them between the two courts. County Theft and Conversions in Cvill. County DUI's and marijuana to Jeff. Also, if the crime happened in the city limits it goes in that city's court.

It was shown last night that this plan was NOT being followed. ISP arrests were not being filed in that court. Plus...apparently the prosecutor wasn't following the plan.

If the plan adopted by the courts was followed the problem is solved.

  12. Julius wasn't too concerned about costs when he screwed the city and taxpayers on that mess of a landscaping job along highway 62

  13. I understand that is/was the plan, but what mechanism is there to enforce the plan? Without that, it does make the court a money drain.

  14. How did the ISP/city court war start? Is it with the court, or with Pierce?

  15. First, let me say that I am against dropping the city court.

That being said, this was caused by two sets of the public.

The first are the whiney, greedy group, who don't care about anyone else or the city as a whole. Their only concern is trying to cut spending at all costs so they can save a few bucks a month. And that somehow makes them feel like their life is better. I don't know how those people sleep at night.

The other group are people like the one that runs this blog or the people that live in the annexed area. These people just have an ax to grind over petty things like annexation or being in the way of the canal, and thus are out to get anyone associated with those projects. But knowing that their true motives would be recognized as selfish and petty, they argue about costs, to hind their true motives. These people should also have trouble sleeping at night.

Either way, they have banded together to send a message of costs cutting and this is the end result. So thank those people (or yourselves, if that is the case).

  16. And by the way Dumbass eliminating the City court and throwing it all on the Circuit courts isn't a "petty" thing......

  17. Anon's theory that the public is behind the decision of the City Council is total bull shit. I haven't talked to a single person that thinks this is a good idea. It just smells top to bottom as purely political...

Can't put my finger on it totally just yet whether it's coming from the feud between Conlin and Pierce or some other political move but like Jamey says "it doesn't pass the smell test"....

  18. I never said that the public was behind the decision. I said that the public cry for cut, cut, cut, (for petty reasons) has lead to this.

If cry for cuts, don't be mad when something you like gets cut.

  19. Everybody wants waste cut, but these morons want to cut an essential service that's part of public safety. And it won't save a dime it'll just pass the cost onto the county and Circuit courts... you're theory is BS...

  20. This cuts NO cost, it just pushes the burden from the city (which has the funds) to the county (which doesn't have the funds). Therefore anon's claims that the public wants to see cuts is the cause of this is bologna. Anyone who can do basic math can see this cuts zero from government. It just shifts it!

  21. Recalling the issue with unpaid fines from March of this year incites me to question the financial defense for maintaining this court. If fees went unpaid for two years in this particular situation, I can't help but wonder how many others haven't been paid or assessed much less enforced. I get that it's not uncommon for people to have outstanding traffic violations etc, but I wonder how much of the good o boy system comes into play. Perhaps I'm mistaken as I am unfamiliar with the process and mean no harm, simply curious. Whether founded or not, the negative attention that's been given to the Clark County Govt. doesn't help the overall image of the City Courts.
