Interesting Video ... Clark Co. Sheriff Deputy

A reader sent me this link to a video concerning a Clark Co. sheriff's deputy from 2015... Cops have a tough job but at times lose the fact they need to obeys laws as well...It's interesting... I just wonder the perception of how BatBlog readers see this ??? Read the captions in the video it helps explain the situation...

First, the seems to be a set up. He starts filming the officer and happens to have his camera in place? Also, it seems like he indicated to the officer that he needed some kind of assistance and flag game over. Only to scold him on speeding. This is One of those cop block types – that I have very little patience for. Without seeing the preceding minutes of this "encounter" I find it very difficult to judge exactly what happened, but did not find the officer to be rude or hostile in anyway

Secondly, I have known this officer for a number of years – and while I am sure he is not without fault – he is a very good man, and comes from a very good family. His service as a sheriffs deputy only benefited our community and I was sorry to recently learned that he had left law enforcement for a new career. .

  2. Interesting how perspective affects interpretation.

I didn't hear the officer deny speeding. In fact, he acted like he knew he was busted.

However, what is most notable is how peaceful and not embarrassing this was compared to when many officers are caught misbehaving. He did not get macho and drag the guy out of the car, didn't illegally detain him. He said some silly stuff about knowing the law and trying to argue with the guy, but be didn't get violent or cross a line. This officer has a strong grasp of basic Constitutional issues, e.g., the correct answer to "am I being detained" when no crime has been committed and/or these cop blocker types have been so effective, police know to be conscious of their behavior when challenged.

    Good outcome in any case.

Anyone know what the bracelet was he showed? Is the driver a cop? Whatever the bracelet signified may also have influenced the cop's handling of the challenge.

  3. I thought the officer got defensive and threatens to give him a ticket for no seat belt on.Cops do have a hard job but some are arrogant and feel entitled. JMHO

  4. Asking a police officer to obey the laws he is paid to enforce does NOT, IMHO, qualify someone as a so called "cop blocker". If the driver felt that the officer was endangering other drivers on the highway, including his wife and children, then he has a right to speak up about it.

  5. I agree the guy seemed sincere and was polite and spoke his mind in a constructive way. The officer seemed taken aback and became somewhat defensive. If it is true and the officer was doing 80-90 mph and not in a pursuit or on a call...he was in the wrong and should have been called out on it...

  6. Cop was totally polite. Driver is a chip on his shoulder guy. What a non event.

  7. I don't consider "cop blocker" a derogatory term.

There was a web address on the video for Charlotte cop watch. The guy was obviously trained and intentional. That's why he had his camera on before the encounter began.

    Good watchdogging.

  8. The officer did nothing wrong dealing with the driver but did get a little defensive IMO...

  10. Anon, what kind of "training" qualifies citizens to cop block, or as you referred to it "watchdogging"? Also, there is absolutely no way he could have known the speed the officer was going unless A. he was travelling close to the same speed. or B. he had a radar. I do not condone this type of behavior and actually find it extremely offensive. I have been in a situation that I needed the local police for EMERGENCY help. I would hate to think an officer was held up even 5 seconds from responding to a LEGITIMATE call because some idiot wanted to become a youtube sensation. Ridiculous.

  11. Like any other job, you'll see a full spectrum.
There are good cops. There are bad cops.
This one's about average. (a bit above actually)

The 'do you know the law?' BS was a bit much.
If you violate a law unintentionally the first thing
you'll hear is "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."

  12. I would hope that the officers responding to your emergency would be using their lights and also that they would not stop to follow other motorists who waved at them.

  13. If fewer people are arrested, or worse, for contempt of cop due to officers fear of being recorded and starring on YouTube, these activists have done succeeded.

Cops should follow the laws which they enforce. Do you disagree?

I've had emergencies requiring police too. Others have had emergencies caused by police driving recklessly.

If the man was in the wrong or interfering with an officer performing his duties, he wouldn't have been let go.

He caught an officer breaking the law and driving at in unsafe speed. The cop didn't deny it. He argued about how fast, but not that he was speeding.

Dude may have, in fact, been trained to estimate speed.

  14. True Story...about 3 years ago

Jeffersonville lady cop pulls me over about 1/4 mile from the house expired plates (2 or 3 days) forgot to put the sticker on this particular vehicle. Explained the situation and told her she could follow me home I had the sticker at home just completely forgot..No response from officer...

She takes driver's lic. and registration and I assume checks on status which is verified as up to date, but gives me a citation anyway. Says I can take the sticker and registration down to police station and they will void the citation. Again I ask her to follow me home I will show her or the other officer that came in behind her the sticker... She says NO...

So I have to take off work early to go down to the courthouse and get the ticket voided, my time is valuable too...

No big deal I guess, but a negative experience sticks with you..This was in the middle of the day and I know they weren't busy because the 3rd police vehicle coasted by as well and this is in a pretty affluent section of town...

I know there are plenty of bad guys around town ...common sense and consideration goes along way when dealing with the public...Some cops have chips on their shoulders as well and it gives the good one's a bad name in a lot of people's eyes...
