The Right Thing To Do

Greater Clark Co. School's proposed offer to purchase the Clark Co. Car Auction property is becoming a hot topic around town. The offer has reportedly been made and all that is stopping the purchase is the required re-zoning by the Jeffersonville City Zoning Board / City Council. Like many residents the BatBlog feels the location and purchase of the property by the school corporation isn't in the best interests of either the residents or further development along this section of 10th St.

As mentioned before this is a section of the 10th St. corridor that is already blighted by abandoned buildings and businesses and adding the unsightly thought of parked buses in this area will only add to the blight but will also thwart any new development.

Dr. Melin superintendent over GCCS has to beware of his unpopular decision with both residents and city leaders but appears to be going ahead with the purchase anyway. This is a great opportunity for the new City council to show some cooperation with the Moore administration (which was lacking in the previous council) and do the right thing and REFUSE to rezone the property to allow for this proposed bus facility.

As for Dr. Melin he once again has shown his arrogance of going against  residents and taxpayers wishes. We realize his main interest is what's best for the schools but he also needs to be a good neighbor with the communities he serves. Another issue is the price he intends to pay for the above mentioned property, it does seem to be pretty inflated and the BatBlog questions if it is really worth the price and good use of our tax dollars..

  4. Who wants to have a bunch of buses parked on the main road of Jeff creating no new tax revenue for the city... it's going to turn into looking like Dixie Highway.... but Jeff can be good again... get one good business at the auto auction place and other better business will follow.

  6. Fetter has to be involved in someway. Has he promised Clarksville's TIF funds in exchange?

  7. Guess we will see who the cooperating members of this City council are. The mayor has made well known his opposition to this deal. To me this is a no brainer, if any any member of the council votes for rezoning this parcel, it has to be clearly a political move.

No way is this in the best interest of Jeff's future development...

  8. I don't think you will get much debate on this one HT. Not the right place for the bus depot.

  9. Melin's response in the paper:

“They've had no other business or developers reaching out to them with serious offers,” Melin said. “Does the community want to have a school system that believes in doing things with great quality and investing over $3 million in that property, or does the community want that property to go vacant and become an eyesore?
"I think that's another big part of this.”

this is pure hogwash! Melin is intellectually bankrupt, among other things.

  10. People are concerned about the traffic this will bring into this area every day. over a hundred some buses in and out.

  11. The school district plans to issue 2 general obligation bonds to finance this purchase. Obviously Melin didn't get the message when the referendum failed 3 to 1. The people do NOT want to waste money. The "DUNCE" cap is very appropriate -- good job HT!! Melin just likes to spend money -- other people's money that is. He got chastised at his former employment for wasteful spending --- $300,000 on a Jumbotron for their football field. Just wait --- he probably plans to put one up at JHS! Melin needs to GO. And so does this Board.

  12. I have lived in Jeff all my life and I don't remember there ever being a Superintendent or Board that pleased everyone, impossible. I myself could care less if they purchase the property or not. 10th street is where all the buses eventually end up anyway, and sitting on Allison Lane to get home during school dismissal is something I just tolerate. I think I would rather put all my effort and energy into making some real differences in the lives of others instead of caring about a potential bus depot. Just my two cents.

  13. Well... if you don't live in Jeffersonville . It shouldn't make any difference.
10th is congested enough, Sharon Drive can't handle the buses, there is no space.
I lived in Jeff. all my life. I care where it goes.
10th Street is not the place for it.

  14. I do live in Jeff. Born and raised here and if I have a problem with anything, it is the circle of death and the idiots that came up with it. Everyone wants progress, so guess what comes with that.....

  15. An idea for dealing with the wild spending, "currently hired" superintendent, and the "currently elected" school board members is to plan for new persons to be elected to the four school board seats up for election in 2016 and the three up in 2018.

Change the board, change the superintendent, restore restraint, and focus educational efforts upon directly benefitting the childrens' education through assisting teachers and the curriculum, not on wild spending proposals .
