The BatBlog has previewed the first episode of 60 Days In the supposed reality show about the Clark Co. jail which you can see by CLICKING HERE ... After viewing episode 1 there are some serious doubts about the whole premise of this being true reality.
The premise: Eight innocent people from different walks of life are entered into the population of the Clark Co. jail to have the experience of being in jail and to see what it's like. Supposedly only Clark Co. sheriff Jamey Noel and his right hand man Officer Scottie Maples knows that these planted inmates aren't really criminals.
The jail staff and guards are "supposedly" unaware of the whole situation.
Really C'mon !!! All these supposed "reality " shows are primarily staged and most are scripted. We will give it another chance since this is the first episode and it mostly concerns the people/actors who are planted into the jail, The thing is ...it's all too slick....closeups, facial reactions and moving cameras. There has to be a lot of cameras and cameramen to get these shots other than the surveillance cameras they would make you think picked up all this action. You've seen surveillance shots they don't move or zoom in on faces. This looks staged and the staff had to know something was up with all the cameras being used.
It appears from the first show to be going to portray Noel as some kind of a hero who comes in and cleans up a cesspool of a jail.....Plenty of Noel and Maples in the first episode and even a cheap shot reference to ex- sheriff Rodden. Like I said the BatBlog will give it another look but already we have serious doubts,,,Stay Tuned....
I agree 110%. I have very, very serious doubts. Very hard to believe no one else knew but Noel and Maples. DO they think we have STUPID written on our foreheads. And watching Noel on Fox & Friends was bizarre. Hoping his trip was paid for by Fox and not the taxpayers of Clark County.
ReplyDeleteAlso wondering if he has cleaned up the jail since this "experiment" was concluded?
The Daily Beat review nailed it pretty well I thought.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/03/09/60-days-in-everyday-people-are-sent-to-a-violent-prison-in-the-most-insane-reality-tv-show-yet.html?source=TDB&via=FB_Page
Favorite quote: “Before I ( Noel ) took office… the inmates were running the facility,” he tells the camera, posing for a glossy stand-up shot that gives 60 Days In an unfortunate sheen of opportunistic slime.
Says it all.
Also agree with the cheap-shot reference to Rodden.
ReplyDeleteNo need or reason for that...Classless.
I read that A&E ordered another season. Meanwhile heroin overdoses in Clark County are at an all time high.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link Jules...Noel and the show is also getting hammered by some of the other reviews I read...Variety allude that Noel sees himself as the "next incarnation of Arizona's TV- friendly Joe Arpaio" and also questions Noel's judgement for allowing this to happen...
ReplyDeleteI spent a bit of time in the facility back in the 80's.
ReplyDeleteNever had any real problems. Didn't see any fights or drug use.
Things may have changed since I was in. Dunno.
I'll watch it but I'd guess that it will be about as scripted,
edited and factual as any other 'reality' show out there.
Looking at several reviews of the show (Variety, Newsday etc.,) it sounds like
ReplyDeleteinformed people from 'outside' Clark County's view of
the show is engrossing television and gravely dubious morally.
One thing for sure, it's an embarassment to the county Noel is
serving.
He is also grossly unfair to Brian Meyer who took serious steps to
reform the jail but lacked the time Mr. Noel has been afforded.
You really do wonder what good will come of this...except to shine
up the Sheriff's television profile.
No one who loves this community would do this.
ReplyDeleteThe shot at Danny was indeed cheap.
This is exploitation and exhibitionism.
I was concerned but cautiouly optimistic. The jail had issues that needed to be addressed. After seeing this.....it is so slimy and offensive.
Where is "the street" these people grew up in where they just learned to fight? Things happen everywhere and some places a little more than others, but our scariest "street" ain't shit compared to mamy other places.
Why on earth would they allow this show to make look us so violent and trashy?
We know our business and talk about it among ourselves, but goddamn to exaggerate it then blast it out like this. Damn.
It is a true embarrassment and a slap in the face to every resident in CC that the leading law enforcement official in the county would stoop to the level of reality programming. Google fake reality shows and you will see that 99.9% of this sleaze is faked with A&E Network leading the pack with one after another.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason to believe this blatant exploitation isn't more of the trash A&E produces. Whether it was for his own publicity or whatever it makes Noel look like a fool. That he could be duped into entering into something like this says a lot about him personally and his qualifications and ability to be sheriff.
If I was an upcoming candidate for the sheriff's position,I would absolutely make this the top issue in any future election. I noticed that commissioner Rick Stephensen reads and comments on your blog. I would like to hear his reaction to the countys top law enforcement official involving the county in this trash. It is an embarrassment to every citizen that resides in Clark County Indiana and totally disgusting. I am a republican but Noel will never get another vote of mine.
The casting call was made in June of 2015.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.realitywanted.com/call/32109-casting-a-new-type-of-survival-challenge#.VuGGuyNOnqB
Here's the production company's website: www.lucky8.tv
Weird that you need a password.
Noel now has zero credibility just like the reality shows he shamlessly allowed to use him.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I gather around town most everyone isn't too happy about Noel airing the dirty laundry of this area on national TV.
ReplyDeleteEspecially on a sleazy reality show..
I'll watch another couple episodes before making a final judgement but I already have serious concerns
I'm just curious as to where anyone said that the staff wasn't aware of the cameras? It was my understanding that they were in plain sight and the staff was very aware, the part that was omitted was that the participants were undercover. I also watched the first episode, I did not find it sleazy in any way. I think it was brave for Noel to put himself out there. Also, I'm amused by the premise that he's airing our dirty laundry, so we are supposed to act like the jail wasn't in bad shape? The jail desperately needed an overall, that is the reality of the situation! If you all would like to bury your heads in the ground and act as if its all okay, by all means go right ahead. Noel isn't portraying our county in a bad light, he is simply attacking the problem straight on. I applaud him for this. To be clear, I voted for Mac. I wouldn't ever vote for Brian knowing he was in the administration that caused the jail be in the condition that it is in. Just to be clear Rodden tarnished this community with his actions, which by the way made national news so get real people. Lastly, I'm impressed with Noel. He has my support and my vote the next go around.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie!
DeleteI also heard that there was going to be a second season. Will it be in a different jail? Because, Noel was supposed to be using this as a way to clean the jail up. Having a second season in our jail would be an admission that he is a failure.
ReplyDeleteNoel is an ego driven publicity hound who thinks he is more important than he is.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. It was SO brave of Noel to put himself out there. Except Rodden got all the blame. I'm glad you're impressed but there is no way anybody can convince that the only way to address the issues with the jail was to give Hollywood Noel his own TV show.
ReplyDeleteI found it rather odd that in the preview one of the inmates walked through a door and then immediately put his hand in front of his face like "I don't want to be filmed" ---- makes me wonder if there was someone there holding a camera (like a film crew). It all sounds rather fishy to me. Parts of it seem staged. Can't believe they got all this just from cameras in the facility --- If cameras really do show all this, then why the need for innocent people to put themselves at risk? It's all about money --- A&E wants to make money. Reality TV. Sorry that our county had to subject us to this in order for the sheriff to "clean up Dodge". Makes Clark County look really, really bad.
ReplyDeleteThe staff as well as the inmates were aware that they were being filmed, nothing "fishy" about that. I'm sure there was a camera person there as well as the cameras that were installed into the facility. What was not known was the there was participants that were undercover. The staff as well as the inmates believed it was a documentary on the inmates. The cameras were installed and upgraded by the A&E company, and I'm assuming they are still in place. Am I the only one who actually watched the episode and read the press releases?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how this makes Clark County look bad, are we supposed to pretend that there wasn't drugs rampant in the jail, does that make you feel better?
What made Clark County look bad was our previous sheriff brought up on federal charges for soliciting a prostitute.....wait are we not supposed to talk about that either?
I could care less if Noel is in front of the camera 24/7 as long as he is doing his job and cleaning up the jail, so be it. I don't think he lost any of votes from the people who are attacking him on here.
ReplyDeleteJealousy is an ugly thing...
ReplyDelete"Can't believe they got all this just from cameras in the facility --- If cameras really do show all this, then why the need for innocent people to put themselves at risk?"
ReplyDeleteThis comment alone says you don't know much about law enforcement and absolutely nothing about running and managing a jail facility. I am not knocking you because of your lack of knowledge in this area, however your comments are extremely judgmental on a topic that you clearly do not know much about.
The casting call makes it sound like people were auditioning for a season of Survivor.
ReplyDeleteIf the "reality" is that the jail needed cleaning up, fair enough...I don't think anyone is disputing that or putting their heads in the sand...But showcasing it on a reality TV isn't the way to do it.
ReplyDeleteA true professional would have gone about "cleaning up" their jail much differently...There's absolutely no reason this ever needed to be on TV...It's on TV because Noel wants to be on TV...Period.
And as someone said if they've called for a 2nd season what does that say about how well Noel's experiment with cleaning things up went??...Although it's my understanding the 2nd season was filmed as the same time as the first...( Will check that out though)...But if true that begs a whole new set of questions as to the Noel's real motives and objectives, etc.
And another thought...Lol.
Everyone is so concerned about the school bus depot and 10th St.'s image, etc...But who would think of Jeffersonville/Clark Co. as an up and coming community and want to move a company here or live here after watching this garbage...If you Google how this show is being marketed in other countries you get headlines like "Most dangerous prison in US"..."Notorious US jail"...smh...I think some city/county elected higher ups really need to have a chat with Mr. Noel...This makes the whole community look like trash.
"Not sure how this makes Clark County look bad, are we supposed to pretend that there wasn't drugs rampant in the jail, does that make you feel better?
ReplyDeleteWhat made Clark County look bad was our previous sheriff brought up on federal charges for soliciting a prostitute.....wait are we not supposed to talk about that either?"
Are those REALLY our only two choices? Not talking about it or making it a series on a national television network?
The premise that the "participants were undercover" is what A&E is pitching as true. I have serious doubts that was the case... ALL of these reality shows are portrayed as real life... believe me they aren't , most are scripted for dramatic effect.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet anything these participants will get into dramatic situations created just for television..
Don't believe everything you hear on television or everything coming out of the mouth of a politician like Noel...
Also there isn't a jail in the world that there isn't drug use going on to some extent...
So funny to see people getting all riled up over a show. I absolutely love all of the "lockups" and find it cool that Jeffersonville would even be a city A&E is interested in. Can't wait to watch!! Bad boys...bad boys...
ReplyDeleteJules is right, this not exactly a good selling point for any person or business looking to settle here locally. The C.C. jail is probably no worse and probably better than hundreds of jails nationwide so why portray it as such..."most dangerous" and "notorious."
ReplyDeleteIt's show business people...
P.T. Barnum - " There's a sucker born every minute."
Now we know who the audience for such trash is. Says a lot right there.....
ReplyDeleteIf the other employees also knew the cameras were there, how was this supposed to catch illicit activity on their part?
And yes, this is about as anti-economoc development and growth as anything I can imagine. While local governments and business people and real estate professionals are trying to upgrade our image, sell our quality of life and lure people here, a county official is broadcasting an exaggerated image of us as a dangerous place full of scary people.
Who would want to live in the community being portrayed?
Question for Clark County Commissioner Rick Stephenson
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of the way the County is depicted in this tv show? Is it in the best interests of the citizens of the county?
I agree with Jules. Great to know our claim to fame is the most dangerous jail in the nation . Sheesh. Couldn't Noel clean it up without it being on tv???
ReplyDeleteOK. Just watched the show. 100% garbage. Only a fool would think this has anything to do with cleaning up the jail. And Noel is no fool. It should be obvious to anyone with any sense at all that the objective of this exercise is nothing more than to make Jamey Noel famous. It's absolutely ridiculous. Shameful. And, of course it took them all of about 30 seconds to bring up the Rodden debacle. Noel should have told us he was planning this stunt before the election. Maybe the people would have opted for a full time sheriff rather than an aspiring reality TV star.
ReplyDeleteThanks for nothing Jamey.
I've only seen the 1st episode...really couldn't tell a whole lot as it was mainly just setting up who the participants are. I just know how reality shows work, they create drama where none exists... but will give it another look or two to confirm this.
ReplyDeleteThose upset with Noel keep in mind he could give a rat's ass how you feel...If you don't like it put it in your memory bank for the next election. Remember he barely won (less than 40% of vote I believe) Myer got a bad rap for being tied to Rodden and got hurt by the Independent run by Spainhour.
Being put to the curb by the voters is the only thing some of these politician's understand...I voted for Spainhour but in hindsight I wished I had voted for Myer...he would have quietly just done his job ...he's not a publicity hound.
Agree 100%. Put your vote behind moves like this if you disagree. Noel had a wave of strong momentum and help in 2014 and his main challenger was facing a lot of hurdles and still almost won it. As quickly as he walked into office, he could just as quickly walk out the next election. Far from invincible and frankly fortunate to be in office now.
DeleteI want to clarify something I said earlier...I said this made the whole community look like trash and I think that might suggest I'm referring to all of the inmates as "trash"...I don't feel that way and don't like to refer to people that way...Some definitely deserve to be where they are, i.e. not such good people...But others aren't necessarily bad people but have made poor choices, had hard lives, have addictions, etc. and are just having a hard time...I wish I'd used a different word.
ReplyDeleteBut whatever word you use the program still makes the area look bad and uninviting.
I don't think that show will make the area look bad, I think the high crime and drugs we have in the area is what makes it look bad. I know, I see the drugs and alcohol abuse ruining lives every day. Maybe it is just me, but I does anyone else see the irony that the show depicts the corruption going on inside the jail, but our own city hall and the antics that go on there could probably give A&E a run for their money. Agree with you Jules, these are not always bad people, but good people making poor choices. There are so many different stories when it comes to those who are addicted, so I will leave the judgments for someone higher up. And to anonymous, if me liking lockup shows makes me trash....not the worse thing I have been called. :)
ReplyDeleteLisa if you have some insight into the "corruption" that goes on in "our own city hall" please share it with us...
ReplyDeleteHT, If politics are involved, corruption is involved.
ReplyDeleteThe haters are mysteriously quiet...
ReplyDeleteDon't think there are any haters just people voicing their opinions which is their right. Noel chose to do this and the voters will decide in 4 years whether they like the direction he has taken the Sheriff's position.
ReplyDeleteLisa maybe I'm an optimist and I'm not so naive to think there isn't any corruption in politics, but its a pretty broad brush to paint all politics "corrupt." I think there is more incompetence and self serving in the political system more than anything else but that's just me.
I don't think that show will make the area look bad, I think the high crime and drugs we have in the area is what makes it look bad.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I wonder WHY there is so much crime and drugs in our community. Could it be because our sheriff is too busy with his television career?
You are right HT, I know there are some good people in the political arena, just hard to find any these days. This will be the first time in over 30 years when I wish I had more choices on who I wanted to be my President. :(
ReplyDeleteHere's what my Facebook feed showed:
ReplyDeleteThose inside political circles were all cheering. Civilians, on the other hand, were commenting about how afraid it makes them to live in Clark County.
So you tell me, how would a business looking to locate here feel?
I don't intend to watch a show that depicts a jail (not a prison) in which the inhabitants know they are being filmed, for whatever reason, and ALSO want their 15 minutes of fame.
ReplyDeleteThis Sheriff and his representative, both Republicans, should have gone about the business they are paid to do. The fact that they want the national attention and the credit for their efforts, they obviously aren't heeding the words of One of the party's heroes, Ronald Reagan, who stated ""There is no limit to what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit."
Definitely more self-serving. Greed, greed, greed. Just look at the City Council! Is there such a thing as an "honest politician"? If so, they are few and far between in Clark County I am afraid.
ReplyDeleteAgree that under any circumstance that when one is being filmed you are unlikely to get a true depiction of the real person... haven't seen last night episode yet but have it recorded...
ReplyDelete... haven't seen last night episode yet but have it recorded...
ReplyDeleteOh boy! You're in for a treat! Here's a little teaser for you...
The first 60 seconds go like this, "My Name is Jamey Noel" "Danny Rodden got a BJ."
Then it just goes downhill from there.
I can't wait to see how this will be used in the next election. Shouldn't be hard to beat a guy who disrespects and uses the community like this.
ReplyDeleteThen again, maybe he plans to use this to run for a higher office and doesn't think he needs Clark County.
Anonymous didn't call anyone trash on this thread, BTW. They called the show trash.
"Now we know who the audience for such trash is. Says a lot right there....."
ReplyDeleteYou're right. No offense taken.
OK ... I need to bitch.
ReplyDeleteA wide screen TV?
Three times the room of the old bullpin.
Tables everywhere. And breakfast?
All we ever got were day-old doughnuts.
And a microwave? A MICROWAVE!!!
It's surely not heaven ... but damn!
Even MisEast wasn't that good.
Rant over. Carry on.
I'm going to venture to say that Noel lost no votes here pertaining to anyone who is associated with this blog. Personally, I think this opens peoples eyes to how corrections works and what these people have to deal with on a daily basis. Even before this show air, most of you were upset that the media was giving Noel so much attention with his attempts to clean up the jail. Also, I'm going to assume that most of you are Rodden fans, beings he is given a pass for yes "getting a BJ" and placed our community in the national spotlight as well. I'm amused that you believe that it should only take Noel 1 year to clean up an 8 year mess. The jail is here people, I highly doubt this is going to keep people from moving to our community.
ReplyDeletefrom Access Hollywood...
ReplyDelete"Clark County jail is the worst jail in the country"
You learn something new everyday. Thankfully I don't have cable tv. But I am getting calls from family across the country wondering... they've always thought Jeffersonville was a nice town. hmmm... Even received an email from a friend in Sydney Australia. He wondered what's happened here since his last visit.
Incredible.

Snowman --- you are right. But look at it this way --- no one is going to want to move to Clark County so thank goodness we didn't waste $109 million on the school referendum!!
I don't know that Rodden is being "given a pass". I just thought we were discussing Noel. Yes Rodden's antics put us in the national spotlight. When did he do that...2014? But most of us had moved on. Or at least we were trying to. Now Noel is drudging it all up again on national television. Meanwhile, there was an article in the paper last week about heroin overdoses in Clark County being at an all time high.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.whas11.com/news/local/indiana/spike-in-heroin-overdoses-in-clark-county/72913540
The media is not giving Noel attention for his efforts to clean up the jail. HE sought THEM out for this publicity stunt.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know the media doesn't contact him? Are you part of the media? Have access to his work related items? NO that's an assumption on your part. You people are worse than a group of middle school girls.
ReplyDeleteUmmm...
ReplyDeleteAccording to Deadline Hollywood, the 60 Days In docuseries was conceived by Sheriff Jamey Noel as a result of a recent history of corruption at the Clark County Jail in Jefferson, Indiana.

ReplyDeleteThis and Noel's penchant for coddling to the media could back fire on him politically. He is a polarizing figure to begin with and his refusal to give up the GOP chair after promising to do so questions his honesty.
ReplyDeleteNobody has a problem with him cleaning up the drug problem as much as possible, but from what I've heard voters would like their sheriff stick to his job as sheriff and leave the politics and media spokesman to someone else...
One of the "volunteers" said they had a "code word" or some sort of "signal" that they could use if they felt unsafe and someone would come get them out immediately. BUT if Noel and Maples were the only 2 who supposedly knew the volunteers were "volunteers", I don't see how this would work unless Noel and Maples were at the jail 24/7. Another reason to doubt this whole charade. I wonder if someone is getting paid a lot of money for this "under the table"??
ReplyDeleteSeems between Great Clark Schools, Fetter's Auto Auction property, Council of Charlestown and His Highness the Mayor, Clark County Jail, Teresa Perkins, Essroc and their wanting to pollute for profit, RDA, regional cities, Airport Authority, Drainage Board, IDEM, EPA and the list goes on and on, man this is why the Politburo and their employees are so sure fired to put the yoke of oppression on the citizenry, there are no jobs like this nonsense in the real world just in guberment where one is paid to be mediocre and get a pension for it too!!!!! So we know the teacher character is an actor ..now this.
ReplyDeleteSome of these participants are definitely not who they say they are. The 20 year police officer Tami is really stretching the truth. Not only is she not currently a police officer but she hasn’t been one in over 15 years. She is retired with a tax free disability pension after only 5 years of police service in Providence RI. She has been seeking her 15 minutes of fame since she left the PD.
"Some of these participants are definitely not who they say they are."
ReplyDeleteWell I'm shocked!!! (no ... not really)
All of these A&E and Discovery Communications channels are pure fraud.
Even The Weather Channel has jumped on board recently.
Pretty sad.
60 Days In" Summary: Robert is a very disturbed person. If he truly is a school teacher, oh boy! I would not allow my children within 1000 miles of this guy. Tami is a cop?!?! Really?!?! What city/county is she a cop because I want to make sure I NEVER travel through her town! If I was the Chief of Police for her town and saw her in this show, I would send her packing as soon as she got home! She's a psycho. Barbra is just a plain, uneducated, uninteresting, racist/bigot, housewife. But together with Tami, they are both racists and bigots! The way they both treated Maryum was pure racism. Nothing more, nothing less. Another reason Tami scares me that she's a cop. Isaiah is cool. He's a young man who just graduated High School and he's looking to find himself and I bet this will be the single best thing he ever does in his life. I think this experience will steer him in the right direction. One that his brother couldn't handle. Jeff, wow! I actually feel sorry for this guy. I don't think he's a bad person but if he actually pursues a corrections officer position, he's in big trouble. As are the other officers he'll be working with. As Zac said, I wouldn't put my life in this guys hands for anything in the world! He's a big, scared, defenseless boy in a man's body. Maryum is probably in line with Zac as the most level headed and intelligent person of this group. She's educated and street smart, a unique combination. I really like Maryum and hated the fact she was attacked by the poor excuse of a cop Tami and uninteresting Barbra. Zac is the man. Of all in the group I firmly believe Zac did exactly what the Sheriff was asking these people to do. He kept his mouth shut, observed closely and did what he was told. And most impressive, he was able to provide the department valuable information which is exactly why they did this. I also think this experience will greatly assist him in applying and accomplishing whatever it is he's looking to do in the future. Zac got it, as did Maryum. I don't think any of the other participants got it at all. Maybe Isaiah to a certain degree but he spent a lot of time scared and trying to stay out of trouble. I can close my eyes and easily see Barbra in a white robe lighting a Cross in the back woods. She's a plain, dumb, White Trash, racist/bigot who couldn't get past the fact Maryum is African American. As for Tami, I don't see a White Robe but I see an extremely egocentric mixed up Lesbian who is and always will be confused as to who she really is and where she needs to go in life. The fact she and her wife have an adopted little girl scares me to death. She can't even carry a normal conversation with an adult. How in the world can she deal with a child? Just the fact she was in Foster Homes all her life would concern me allowing her to adopt a child. And she's a cop? WOW!!!
ReplyDelete
