"The Mess in the Middle" and Lipstick on a Pig ...

The Jeffersonville City council/ Parks Authority appears to be in a frantic rush this week to try and make the Hwy 62 median landscaping disaster "The Mess in the Middle" at least halfway presentable. First this week the council called out the "Green Team" for lack of progress . Now at the Parks authority meeting this same week, which by the way is also the same City council,  yep these same morons who obviously are lacking in patience allocated nearly $100,000 for an outside contractor to maintain the medians.

What's the big hurry ??? I thought there were to be meetings with the "Green Team" to coordinate a plan ??? Is the council/park's authority suddenly concerned about our scenic view as we traverse Hwy.62 ?? Are they worried someone might get lost in the woods crossing the highway ??? Do they have an extra  100 K just lying around collecting dust ???
Or could it be because there is a mayoral election in Nov. and that mayoral candidate Dennis Julius who is pretty much the daddy of " The Mess in the Middle" (his company did the work) needs this disaster cleaned up before Election Day ???

Maybe it's just a coincidence the timing, that Julius is also a member of both the council and authority, and it is no secret most other council members support Julius bid because of an apparent on going feud with the mayor.

They (the council) wouldn't be playing politics with our tax dollars in order to spruce up Julius' "Mess in the Middle" ??? would they ???....Come to your own conclusion....The BatBlog has came to theirs and The BatBlog also wonders ..When did the 10th St. medians become City parks ??? Isn't   the Park's authority supposed to fund parks not highways ??? Who funds highways and streets ??? the sewer dept ???

One thing is certain as one of the BatBlog's readers cleverly pointed out....you can put lipstick on a pig....but it's still a pig...and we have one ugly ass pig perched in the middle of Hwy 62 medians or is that the Hwy 62 Parks ???

  2. Your dead on on this, it has become a political football. Moore is ignoring it and probably told his dept.heads to minimize what they do to it. The council knows it reflects bad on Julius so they go over Moore's head and fund the maintenance of it. The only thing is at least Moore's ignoring it didn't cost any more tax money, to be put into what will be a money pit for years to come. The money could have been better spent and the reference to the pig and lipstick is a very appropriate comparison.

  3. What confuses me is why is the park's authority funding work on these medians ??? Aren't they supposed to deal with uhhh Parks....Maybe they plan on having the Park's Dept's annual Easter egg hunt in the medians this year...Only thing is the little kiddies probably wouldn't be able to find the eggs and parents would't be able to find their kiddies...

  4. Anonymous is right this will be a money pit. To throw $100,000 into medians every year is a total waste of money. Plant grass, leave a few bushes and city workers would be able to maintain it. This was a huge mistake from the beginning.

  5. Couldn't a public servant offer to do some of the work himself, via volunteering or donating?

Wouldn't it have been a great campaign ad & newspaper story to show Walnut Ridge "donating" their time to clean up the mess that Mayor Moore wouldn't fund?

Too bad for the lost opportunity. Need a better campaign manager.

  7. Thanks I'll be by to pick them up !!!

It's no big secret and I've said before I will be voting for Moore, considering the choice the Dem's have made in Julius. Actually not that big of a Moore fan, he has become the typical politician, friendly and interested in you and your thoughts during campaigns, but not so much any other time.

Julius during his time as president of and on the council has shown no leadership qualities period...When he could have stepped forward and made a difference in issues like Jeffersonville City Court he folded like a cheap lawn chair and went with the crowd....He has the personality of a garden slug and is aloof unless he's pandering for a vote...

Jeffersonville missed a chance to elect an intelligent, educated non politician in William Meiners the man most qualified for the job. Instead we are left with a florist and a restaurant manager to run the City...

Moore has made progress in the last 4 years some by his doings, some just by circumstances I suppose he deserves another 4 years....

Considering the choices I'll vote for Moore....

  15. The 10st Street 'plant scandal' is a mess.
It really hurt poor TG's re-election campaign in 2011
and Mayor Galligan did not even RECEIVE the tremendous amount of money.
It will be an even bigger scandal this time around in 2015.
Additionally, the "current" city council has been informed that the Parks Authority
    as currently constituted
may very well be acting and spending
    without legal authority,
yet they continue to arrogantly operate the Parks Authority
    and do nothing to change.
The scandal will grow and the courts will become involved.
Look for serious repercussions unless the city council
    stops running the Parks Authority.
The Award Winning Bat-Blog is watching.
    H-T has this.
The city council has been informed.

  16. Actually your comments are both inflammatory and untrue. State lawmakers were aware enough to make sure that Moore had his hands on as little as possible.

  17. Nope. You know better. The statements are accurate and the questions will have to answered and solved. Some persons reading the statutes agree that the Parks Authority may be acting without legal authority. The best way to decide the issue, if the arrogant council is correct and has legally exercised Executive Branch Authority, is for the council or a third party to file for a decision to be rendered by the court. What is the council afraid of? Hmmmmm....?
