More on the RCI ....We Still Have Another Chance To Stop It....

In the aftermath of yesterday's vote approving the Regional Cities Iniative by the Clark Co. council one has to be dubious of the claims by several of the councilperson's that of a majority of the e-mails they received were for the Initiative. The good news is though, yet another county (Floyd) by a 5-2 vote has wisely rejected and according to reports may have doomed the plan in this area due to lack of population requirements.

The BatBlog feels the NO vote by the surrounding counties makes our own county council look rather foolish, uneducated on the issue, not caring about the wants of their constituents and playing politics instead of doing the right thing. It's no secret that several on the council  at times are pretty peeved and put back at councilwoman Khuri. Ms. Khuri was a staunch believer this program wasn't right and was vocal to the point of possibly ruffling the feathers of some of her fellow councilpersons. Let's hope that this council isn't playing politics instead of doing what's best for county residents, voters, and taxpayers. as we move into the future.

Congratulations to Ms Khuri, Tina Webster and other staunch advocates who gave up their personal time to educate voters and show their feelings to voters and county councils in this area. Though they didn't get the vote desired here in Clark Co. it appears to be dead in this section of the state. If by some loophole it arises from the dead, we need to bombard the statehouse with e-mails and letters telling Pence to take his carrot elsewhere, as our area is doing just fine developing business and growth without his gimmicky plan that smells of big government and possible corruption down the road.

Hopefully in bipartisan way Democrat's, Republicans, Libertarians, and independents have arose with a common sense  goal in mind and have buried this thing once and for all...

Remain Vigilant My Friends....

I appreciate your time in providing the information you have given us. I have high hopes the C.C. council who has recently made good inroads and common sense decisions on fiscal problems created by earlier councils, will put this vote behind you and move on.

There are things we don't agree on but I respect your position and candor and hope you will continue to participate here...

This is the first time in a long time I have been critical of the CC. council I just feel for whatever reasons you all got this one wrong...

  3. I forgot to mention that if New Albany and Washington County join RDA, that would give the 200,000 needed for adoption.

  4. I'm sure Washington county just loves to know they're just a population number Clark needs to obtain.

  5. The Fatal Conceit
When you boil it down, large-scale central planners fail because they believe three things that aren’t true.
First, that they know current conditions (wants, desires, hopes, capabilities, resources). In other words, that they know the exact and entire present state of the community they are planning for.

Second, that they know where the community ought to go; that is, that they know what the future ought to be.

Third, that they are capable of creating the future they want.

None of those things is more than an illusion. Together, they constitute what F. A. Hayek called “the fatal conceit that man is able to shape the world around him according to his wishes.”

    http://dailyreckoning.com/why-central-planning-fails/

Central planning MIGHT work with socialism, but definitely not with capitalism.
When you mix central planning with capitalism you get crony capitalism. Period.
These businesses will now be allowed to risk taxpayer money on whatever projects the state tells us we must do.

Just like the people that tell us our Constitution is dated and is a living document, those with self interests believe they are doing good here. It will only be when they remove so much property from our tax rolls and our counties have to beg for scraps from this RDA that we will see the error of their ways in creating this mess.

    1. I love how you accuse government of knowing better than citizens but love to point out when you "know better " than citizens. What it really boils down to is you are anti-growth.

One reason that our area is seeing such growth is because 2 states worked together to get the bridges built. It is pretty obvious that if the region banded together with the state we would see similar results.

      Delete
    2. And neither were required to join an RDA to accomplish it.

      Delete
  6. Dear Anonymous,

The bridge project was first started back in the 70's. So yes the states are doing their normal work, it only took 40 years to get it done. I was against this and I am not anti growth, I am anti outside influence. Let local people decide what is best for us. Not Indianapolis...

  7. I heard today that Wendy sent an email to all the regional cities supporters thanking them but basically admitting it was dead. I take that to mean either Washington Co or New Albany city has told her they will not join. She doesn't have the minimum population according to the guidelines.

    ReplyDelete
  8. If that is the case then Clark and Scott Counties need to vote to remove themselves from the RDA and let this monster die an honorable death.

  9. To be clear about post above, RCI, is dead.

RDA, the evil part of all this, is still alive until someone has the good sense to bludgeon it.

  11. The Bat Blog has the latest veto by the mayor Of Jeffersonville over the excessive spending city council that is trying to continue to run the Park Department via the Parks Authority. Continued incursions by the Legislative Branch into the Executive Branch functions.

  12. The Bat Blog has followed this strange trip with the city council
dealing with the council's Cheap Power Trip.
First they seize the Executive Branch function with the Parks Department,
    oppose economic development projects,
and interfere with the correct everyday operation of the Executive Branch.
Next they very weirdly abolish (temporarily) the Judicial Branch,
the very successful and well operated Jeffersonville City Court.
Quite a n unusual concept of government authority
among the well defined responsibilities of the
    three co=equal branches of government.
The massive spending for the "pet project" of the soccer gig is also astounding.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hoosier Taxpayer, can you post the mayor's latest veto of the council's excessive soccer spending?

  14. Bat Blog Alert
    Kudos to the Mayor
for once again fighting the massive council spending at the potentially unsafe soccer site.
Millions and millions being poured into the site
and some say it is very self-centered and selfish of the council.
The pending lawsuit may reveal that the entire spending by the council has been done without a legal basis.
The mayor blocked by veto another $1,000,000 to forced into the soccer site.

  15. The Nine.
The Bat Blog is watching The Nine.

Surely, the arrogant council will not try to over ride yet another wise mayoral veto of excessive spending by the council?
The mayor is leading and trying to restrain them.
Is the council not concerned for the taxpayers?
The appearance of spending so much money
at that one site is potentially a big
    special
    interest
    embarrassment.....

How much money is being spent
    by the council on soccer
    compared with all
    other sports?
    Millions?

The pending Clark Circuit Court case is going forward soon to determine if the currently constituted Parks Authority, which features as members all nine of the
city council members, is operating legally. Some say a clear reading
of Indiana law shows they are not.
Are they afraid of a ruling?

    I like that.
Naming the Nine council persons with that handle, "The Nine",
    is very expressive.

Many are wondering WHY the weird "insider" obsessive fixation with soccer to the neglect of other sports and the attachment to that potentially very dangerous site?
    Millions.

We need the whole story on this.
    The council won't disclose yet.
The taxpayers continue to foot the bill for millions
    plus yearly high maintenance costs.

  17. "Didn't Republican (like Moore) representative Ron Grooms fashion legislation that passed allowing the council to continue as the parks department?"

    No.
Senator Ron Grooms legislation was not applicable to Jeffersonville as a second class city at the time the council passed the sneaky power grab ordinance.

The council did not legally appoint the Parks Authority under Indiana statute
is the reading of some very intelligent attorneys.
That the council may have arrogantly erred in
    its appointment of themselves to
    the Parks Authority
    is the concern.

Some feel that they are acting and spending
without legal authority in the massive
    soccer expenditures.
    Millions.

The council, which is the Legislative Branch,
should stop exercising Executive Branch functions.

Yes, that is an "unusual" compulsion to have run for so many different offices
    (three) in so many years: 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015.

With that number of repeated, recycle attempts
it should be easy for any perennial candidate
to at the minimum discuss ISSUES
    and tell us his positions.

Does he support the excessive soccer spending?
The 10th Street Plant Mess Scandal?

    ReplyDelete
  30. It could be that in KV's compulsion to run for so many offices,
he has decided to avoid any comprehension
    of the damage done
    by bad policy
    decisions.

If he supports the council's terrible decisions,
he looks as unknowledgeable as they are.
If he goes against them, they won't talk to him then....
It he stands against those bad decisions, he looks bad with the voters.
    Catch 22.

However, his weak attempts at obfuscation make him look even worse.
He also knows that the Clark County Republican leadership
is recruiting fresh, new capable persons to replace the old political recycles.
The Democrat Chair was right to try to get him to not run
so the Democrats could get a new, better candidate
in that 3rd District Council race.
