Merry Christmas to Us

Early Christmas presents were in order for a body of local government...presented to themselves.
As predicted earlier by the BatBlog  the Jeffersonville City council unanimously voted themselves hefty pay raises. In the process proving once again what hypocrites they are. This is the same council that in the name of fiscal responsibility eliminated Jeffersonville City court and has de-funded positions and jobs in Jeffersonville in the guise of being responsible and prudent caretakers of our tax dollars.

This self serving move exposes them more as liars and thieves, than the civil servants  they were elected to be. They have insulted  the taxpayer's intelligence by pretending to be something they are NOT.... responsible guardians of tax dollars and true public servants...

The two councilmen who abstained Webb and Samuels look more like cowards by abstaining to vote. Surely they have an opinion on the matter and if they didn't feel comfortable voting on their own pay raise they should have had the courage to vote NO.....

The BatBlog believes elected officials should never be given the right to vote themselves raises. The BatBlog would also like to see pay deducted from the councilmen/ women who don't always show up for meeting. They already are paid more than what they're worth, not attending is a form of theft in our opinion....Are you listening Matt "Lapdog" Owen ?????

  1. Agree, the counsel or any other body of government should not be able to generate their own pay raises.

  3. I will say that the optics of voting on your own raise is horrible, but I will also say that if left up to the voters, they would probably never get a raise. Then we would have a hard time finding quality candidates with knowledge and education in the business world and the way current business is done. Heck, we have trouble finding those now.

As far as abstaining, I am fine with that if you think that the raises are fair but you don't like deciding your own raise.

  4. An ordinance that allows for a cost of living increase based on a cost of living index would be the only solution fair and honorable. To allow a body to give their own raises is obscene and shows the self serving attitude of this council and clearly shows where their intentions are and their self inflated sense of worth...

  5. No one seems to mention that the council is part time, but get insurance like a full time employee. Family plan costs taxpayers $1200 per month! I'd say most take the insurance.
Clark County Council Eliminated the insurance for council and Commissioners years ago. It's part time for Petes sake!
If all these new Republican councilmen were truly Conservative, they should abolish insurance for the council.

  7. The only time the Rep.s on this council are conservative is when it fits their politic agenda. They preached fiscal conservatism until it was time to line their pockets with our tax dollars...

  8. In some cases, an employee may receive a stipend if they don't take the insurance. So they get extra cash from the employer, and get great insurance at a reduced rate!

  9. One would think that free membership in the areas most well appointed soccer club would be enough.

  10. To explain, I meant to say from their full time job, the employee may receive cash when not taking insurance. Then that cash savings could be used for the city insurance employee fee.
