Congratulations...

Congratulations are in order to the Clark Co.Regional Airport supporters on reaching their goal of achieving the local funding needed for the runway expansion project. With virtually no interest or  support from the taxpayers and voters... a group of local politicians was still able to hammer out a deal with a few of local municipalities, Clark Co. and the Paul Ogle foundation for the necessary funds ($750,000) to  receive the federal grant money.

Make no mistake about it this was foremost political deal where once again Jane and Joe Taxpayer had no say so over how their hard earned tax dollars were spent. You can look at the cast and characters and early on and see how this would play out. Ron  "Wishy Washy" Grooms, Ed  "Moe " Zastawny, Tom  " Canal Digger" Galligan  that some have said  are "partners in crime" of  frittering away tax dollars for quite a while now were  clearly main characters.

"Moe" Zastawny and "Wishy washy" Grooms were literally puppets for Galligan during his Jeff mayoral stint and followed that puppet lead in their part of creating and funding the airport district. It was predictable..

We as taxpayers have unfortunately become used to not having our voices heard and money wasted. This isn't the first or last time special interests and political cronyism have trumped public opinion...and in the grand scheme of things this will soon be forgotten about.... that is until the airport needs more money and the taxpayers will be forced to pony up again...

  1. Z does not seem all that happy with politics and being a councilman.
Grooms seems very happy with being a Senator.
Galligan is in a much better mood lately,
for the last two months or so.
Tom was actually in a better mood
before the airport gig got funded.

  2. Bat, you called it compromise earlier. Now you poke at those who were in the other side? Batman the Comprimiser!!

    1. So "like it is" changes daily based upon your mood? You said it was a compromise. Now you demonized those on the other side. I used to think this blog was valuable. Now I think it is just a site for you to make silly rants and post exhibits of your "excellent" photo shop skills.

    2. It was a compromise to certain extent ,which is good, but on the same hand I don't have to like it and have expressed my opinion as such...If you aren't satisfied with the blog feel free not to read it...

  5. The airport is a piece of the economic machine in our community. We pay taxes for lots of things we don't need or like. Elected officials have always been the ones who have made those decisions.
I never use the library, but the Jeffersonville library has over a 2 million dollar budget. I will never use the airport. It has a zero tax levy, even though it is part of our community transportation system.
If Mike Moore, or Jamie Noel were pushing the airport, it would have support.

    1. Not True ...the airport had little support because it was a special interest, political move that doesn't benefit many local citizens. Library is used by a whole lot of area residents and children not a fair comparison...

    2. Still sour grapes. An airport serves all the residents even if they don't use it. I don't use the sewer line that goes by your house, but I'm willing to pay for my share since it it part of an overall system. And I'm getting a raw deal because you seem to spew more crap than the average resident.

    3. Again an unfair comparison...I'm pretty sure most residents want a sewer system funded not so with a mostly privately used, rinky dink airport...

It was certainly a compromise, as H-T has CORRECTLY noted.
A SERIES of deals negotiated by several COMPETING parties.

    Continued Prosperity
Mayor Moore got his new East End TIF district
approved so River Ridge can start the heavy haul road.

The city council and the school system extorted $400,000 A YEAR from the city
from the new TIF in exchange for the council's approval.

The school system got a very generous and FREE $3,000,000
property due to the mayor's deal making.

Mayor Moore got his PRIORITY of additional
essential road improvement protected: $8,000,000 for Holman's Lane,
    $18,000,000 and $7,500,000 for 10th Street.

Former Mayor Tom Galligan got the local match
for the airport $10,000,000 next phase improvements.

    Several various entities
were convinced to cooperate to chip in
to raise the full $750,000 local match for the airport grant funds.

All in all, a nice day's work....

    Next up
    in the important
    growth of prosperity category
for Jeffersonville's citizens is the obtaining
of the local match funding for the commercial/industrial/residential
connector road that is planned from I-65 and the airport over to Bethany Road
at Hwy 62 for the River Ridge Commerce Center and the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville.

    There is co-operative work
needed to obtain the local match
    for this important link.

    The new road
    will open up another
    6,000 acres for development.
    Nice.

So you are saying that at a town hall type meeting a year or so ago, Jack Coffman, Bob Hall and Steve Doherty lied to the Bethany Rd. area residents when they said the widening was strictly for safety purposes and that it was not going to be a connector road to River Ridge?

  10. Galligan could part the Ohio River, and HT still wouldn't be able to give him credit because the poor baby got annexed (has worked great for me) and got the eminent domain.

    Poor baby.

    1. As if having your property taken and your choice to buy outside the city limits undermined aren't perfectly good reasons to hold a grudge.

    2. Right. Wasn't trying to speak for you. Just saying someone so wronged would be entitled.

    3. Actually, the annexation worked out great for me and my wife. As would have the canal. But since HT doesn't seem to care about us, I see no reason to care about him.

  11. All this "growth" and misuse of taxpayer dollars only encourages me to leave Clark County as it will soon be called North Louisville. I liked the small town feel of Jeff but I am sickened by all this spending. I will soon move and expect many others to do likewise. Clark County has a terrible reputation and for good reason.

  13. Despite HT's objections, I look forward to Clark County residents not having to cross the bridge for good jobs!

  15. Yes, it absolutely will. Increased access increases the attractiveness of an area for businesses.

    The airport will help!
