Mixed Reaction on Danny Rodden...

According to news reports former Clark Co. sheriff Danny Rodden was allegedly in the company of an alleged escort /prostitute after a recent shoplifting incident at a local Cracker Barrel restaurant. Rodden who resigned in disgrace from the sheriff's position several years ago after being caught in a sting operation with another prostitute and then lying to investigators.

The Batblog's reaction is one of sadness on several counts. Yes Rodden disgraced his family , community and law enforcement with his actions, but he paid a deep price with divorce and the loss of respect of a lot of people in C.C. and the aftermath left a sad and disappointing situation for a lot of innocent people to deal with.

The BatBlog also is a little angry that local news media would sensationalize private citizen Danny Rodden's troubles. Rodden isn't sheriff any longer, he wasn't charged with any crime in this incident, and while prostitution and soliciting is a crime let's face it on the grand scheme of things there are a whole lot of things going on where police can be better utilized than deals between consenting adults.

Rodden deserved and received his punishment when he was sheriff, there is nothing to be gained for ostracizing Rodden now over this latest incident which it appears what the Sellersburg P.D. is doing by relaying this to the press. The BatBlog has known Danny Rodden  most of his life we believe he is a good man, we wish him peace...

  1. Since when did the press put shizz like this out when no charges are filed...based on the word of a person arrested for drugs or drug paraphenalia and looking to save her self? The News and Tribune and other media are really in the gutter on this one.

  2. Yeah and why did the Sellersburg P.D. push this to the press... if the girl was shoplifting arrest her done deal...why should they even care who she was with...

  3. Aren't you guilty as well of "sensationalizing" by putting it in your blog?

  4. I don't think so. my tone was meant to be one of sadness and embarrassment...to see private citizen Rodden's name dragged threw the mud and a Sellerburg P.D. chief acting like they solved some big crime.. If Prosecutor Mull has any sense he'll just ignore this, they are all kinds of bad guys out there and the police should have better things to do than shit like this.

  5. Rodden was a disgrace to the people of Clark county. But I agree Sellersburg is taken this above and beyond what a normal citizen would have gotten. Sellersburg PD should take a look at themselves, some shady leadership their as well.

    1. I wouldn't paint this too much as a "democratic party" thing ...republicans have their share of hobnobbing scandals with shady characters as well. There's a long of politicians who dallied with prostitutes over the years most of which never made the news. Might even be a couple of Russian escorts in there too....

Yes, Mr. Grey is correct. The entire "episode" is suspicious.

    1. Yeah the Sellersburg chief is acting like he's solved the crime of the century. Relying on the word of a prostitute who claims she is working for the FBI...

Surely there is more pressing crimes in Sellersburg that need attention, but it got him on TV, probably the highlight of his career...

  11. Ridden must be a broken man if these are the types of people he is hanging out with. You have to really feel sorry for his family who are innocent victims of his behavior.

  12. Danny let his position go to his head and he thought he was invincible. Perhaps the Sellersburg police department is making it public do it can't be swept under the carpet. As for him being a nice guy, I say bull. He is taking advantage of women who he knows have drugs problems and putting thier lives in danger (potential to overdose is great) and he is supporting a local drug dealer at the same time. Danny has a daughter and that prostitute is someone's daughter too. I think Danny and most of you would feel differently if it was your child he was hooking up with.

    1. All valid points Anon., power does corrupt. Rodden was a good man from humble beginnings as a beat officer who worked his way up. Maybe his position went to his head, but in this instance it was private citizen Rodden who so far has committed no crime...he knows what he did and has to live with it. By making this a big media story the Sellerburg P.D. is just punishing his innocent children more.

Police Dept.'s need to just do their jobs without making things sensational stories to the news media. As for the women they know what they are doing, they choose that lifestyle there is help available if they really want to get off drugs...

    2. Not judging here but your last sentence is not exactly true. Working in this community for several years counseling those addicted to substance use or alcohol I can tell you that there is not always help out there unless you have money. Yes, the Court can order them into group counseling but most of the time they show up to pay their $2.00 and sit in a circle and listen to someone talk about how bad drugs and alcohol are and they need to stop using both. Many have problems that go way beyond just using. There are many with mental and physical problems that turned them to drugs. Unless you have $5000 to get into some of these inpatient facilities, you are just evaluated and sent on your way.

    3. Addiction is a very complex issue and I didn't mean to be flippant about "getting help" because the best help isn't available to everyone like you said...

You are also right about various circumstances contributing to and extending one's addiction...

The main factor in healing is wanting to quit for yourself and that is a complicated road with many pitfalls and detours...

We can only hope for the best for everyone in the journey to wellness...

  15. What a total waste of police time and taxpayer money. This kind of activity goes on thousands of times daily in the Louisville Metro area. The law enforcement community needs to focus their time and effort on gang activity and gun violence. If the man supports a dozen hookers with his money that should be his decision.

  16. No need to beat the dead horse with another news story... Agreed

He was not JUST a sheriff. To me, he was what I thought of when someone said police. To me, he was "Policeman Dan" from Safety Town. He was who taught me (and many other young people) the rules of the road. How to be safe. And most importantly, to always trust a police man. How they are here to help. They always do the right thing and can help you do the same. How they are here to protect us from the bad guys.

As a little boy, that made sense in a perfect world. It instilled a trust and respect of police officers into me that sticks with me, to this day.

As a grown man, I understand the world is not black and white. No body is perfect and everyone makes mistakes.

But... Even as I write this, the little boy inside of me is in tears because the idea of one of his heroes (Policeman Dan) not being who he thought he was is heart breaking.

He is not in office any more. He is not in the public eye. There is no reason to beat a dead horse story that does nothing but continue to badger a person who already is not even close to being the shadow of the man he once was.

    Just my opinion.

    1. Great post Anon....it was not my intention to bring attention to Roddens misfortunes but to slam the media for unnecessarily kicking a man while he's down.

While disappointed in his behavior he is a private citizen now who obviously is in a low point in his life...but who are we to judge...we can only wish him peace moving forward....

  23. So, it turns out there will be no charges filed. Witness is not acceptable and the so called text message are weak. Not quite the case the SPD initially threw out there. But I guess the Police Chief got his name in the paper on Danny Roddens back one more time.

"Cheap Sandal Foot Wear/Cheap Floozie Episode"
    Fun Analysis!

An 'Anonymous' asserted: "Any one who is outside
of the "good ole boy" club would have been prosecuted."

    Huh?
    SMH.
NOOOO, it is just the OPPOSITE!

Danny Rodden is certainly NOT part of the new power structure
at the Sheriff's Office, the rest of the court house,
    Sellersburg Town Hall, etc.

This entire matter STINKS to high heaven!
Could it have been "cooked up"
BECAUSE Danny Rodden was a D,
was a prior high profile office holder,
and had been allegedly set up before?

Could the entire previous matter have been allegedly
"stage managed" by political persons that had could been
    out to get him
and had possibly wanted to create bad political PR?
Remember... both he and Adams were tape recorded
    in predetermined plans!!!

It was not just something that
    "Magically Occurred".

Does this is newest "strange incident"
indicate that it was quite possible that some "CURRENT GOB's" WANTED
to involve him? Why did this scenario happen at all?

    His being involved
and the "steps taken" to implicate
him in additional unconnected, non-relevant allegations
    with the shoplifting suspect's detention,
    growing from the original minor
    alleged shoplifting situation,
    is SUSPECT indeed.

    There was no way
    to "magically" get
    to a relevant allegation
    about unconnected "alleged prostitution"
from the minor misdemeanor charge of conversion.

    Mr. Rodden
    was NOT involved
    in the alleged shoplifting
according to the SPD's own report.

He was not even the same room!

Not just a "croc", not just a s-t-r-e-e-e-e-t-c-h,
but was a "Creative Magical Mystical Journey" undertaken..........?

This is very unusual and upsetting..

    The typical citizen
in the same position would NOT
have been put through the ringer like this.

He did not "assist nor participate in
    the alleged misdemeanor act"
    of "exerting the unauthorized control
over the property of another", to wit: 'Cheap Flip Floppies
Foot Thingies by an Alleged Cheap Floozie'.....

    Double SMH.

The allegedly shoplifting individual could possibly
have have simply been charged with a small time misdemeanor
'Criminal Conversion' for the "flip flops". Even that would have been unlikely
because the report says that she paid for then after the store clerk caught her.

This entire PR campaign CHARADE stinks.

Thank goodness that the Clark County Prosecutor
    showed courage and decency,
    and did the right thing.
    He is to be
    commended.

  28. Danny was stupid enough to admit he gave her money. Just like he was stupid enough to call his other hooker pal after the FBI asked him if he knew her and he lied. The best indicator of future behavior is to look at ones past behavior. Danny is a sad messed up individual who let his position corrupt his life. To think that he is incapable of doing what he has already been proven capable of doing and the others are just out to get him is just plain stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah this wasn't about someone out to get Rodden. It was about a delusional small town cop thinking he solved some big crime and started blowing hot air to the press. Because Rodden being who he is , the press sensationalized what should have been a non story. Lots of blame to throw around here ...Whalen and the press should be ashamed and embarrassed for making this public...

    ReplyDelete
  30. The cop will make it up by arresting those caught with a joint or so. And yes, Mull will prosecute them to the full extent of the law. More money for the courts as they say. What the heck does that cost the taxpayers. Don't pay the probation fees and go to jail. Then the taxpayer bails out the probation office and courts. Amazing that too few have figured this scam out.

Let's see :he was with a shoplifting woman in the Cracker Barrel who had drug paraphernalia in her purse and had text messages from Danny that insinuated he was paying her to have sex with him at his house. And you think they shouldn't have pursued this? How about this :post your address up here as a direct way for Danny rodden to know that you were totally cool with him bringing prostitutes into your neighborhood. If you think with all the things you've heard about this case that he wasn't paying a prostitute you have your head so far down in the sand I just feel sorry for you
