Jeffersonville's Papa John...
The BatBlog was surprised at some of thenegative reaction in the News/Tribune's comments section on the recent donation of $800,000 by John "Papa John" Schnatter for the renovation and repair of Nachand Fieldhouse.
The generous and welcomed donation by Schnatter will go along way in the fund raising goal to save the historic but aging landmark for future generations. I remember as a child the excitement and huge crowds drawn to Jeffersonville H. S. basketball and the IHSAA sectional tournaments. Legendary local basketball names like Cotton Nash, Mike Flynn, Lou Watson etc. started their careers at the fieldhouse as well many famed visitors and basketball legends traveled here to play the J.H.S. Red Devils. It is an institution in Jeff history and well worth keeping open for all Jeffersonville residents to enjoy and remember.
Papa John the local boy who made good should be thanked for his generous offer. and the city and mayor Moore rightfully renamed it The Papa John's Nachand Fieldhouse...We don't understand some of the negative comments aimed at Schnatter as Jeffersonville should be proud of his success as a business man, who from humble beginnings here in Jeffersonville created a brand known world wide...
Thank You Papa John !!!

It wasn't the N/T it was different people in the "comment's section that made some snide remarks. Probably just jealous haters, you have to give him credit the guy is a marketing genius that started from scratch...
DeleteDonation appreciated but no need to change the name of this landmark. Just put up a plaque with Schnatters name on it if he really needs accolades. If not then just rename the city Schnatterville. I don't like philanthropists who require things be named after them in order to do a good deed.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day for the city. Many of you may not know but there was a strong push by a couple of city council member three years ago to tear the building down because of maintenance costs. John Schnatter's generous gift ensured the Fieldhouse will continue to serve the young and old for generations to come.
ReplyDeleteMike Moore
Lot's of great memories from the Fieldhouse ...it's great that this landmark is going to be preserved as a unique building and also remain functional as a recreational facility. It can enjoyed as well as preserving the memories of all the great games , players and coaches from the past... Kudos to Papa !!!
DeleteMayor Mike is correct.
DeleteCleveland , who is tied to TG, tried to tear in down.
The shame...
Mayor Moore: Excellent job!
DeleteWho is your papa now :-)
ReplyDeleteLots of people feel Schnattet is an arrogant jerk.
ReplyDeletelosers have always been jealous of winners. John Schnatter is a world class businessman and a class act individual. Thank you Papa John.
ReplyDeleteYeah and he's got a good pizza too...not the best but for the money pretty top notch...
ReplyDeleteFinaly seen sum the commentary ov'ere (NT).....hahahaha.....
DeleteSUM of'em.....like the taste o' cardboard(Lil' Ceasars)
The QC is second ta none....period.....I've been 'round Corporate, seen with my own eyes.....
And just how many memory bricks, bearing donors names, would need to be sold to generate $800,00 towards the repairs of the building? They didn't take out the Nachand Fieldhouse part of the name, so I say let's put that $800,000 to use on this building that we had no clue what the fate was going to be prior to this donation.
ReplyDeleteJerk or not 800 grand is still 800 grand. Thanks should be given regardless of what you think of him personally. Just my opinion.

Who is the Bat?
ReplyDeleteIt's great that the place is saved, but let's call it what it is. He bought naming rights. It was an advertising move, not an act of good will. Anyone making the kind of money he makes but begrudged his workers having insurance just isn't the poster child of good will in my book. The outcome is good, but the best acts of philanthropy are anonymous donations.
ReplyDelete"Naming rights" LOL
DeleteHe probably could have gotten that for far less money. People whine about everything.

Mr. Schnatter's very thoughtful

Hatred and jealousy toward him after his tremendous

Jeffersonville History!
John Schnatter
is a great Jeffersonville
and American success story.
We should all appreciate that.
Maybe a 'Papa John's Pizza Museum'
would be a great addition
to Jeffersonville's
booming economy
and surging
downtown
area!
The location on Court Avenue
across from the Big 4 Park
possibly extending
to around 6th and Michigan
would be an excellent location.
That would enhance downtown with the park/greenway area,
the arts district, and the Spring Street Corridor improvements.
It would look very nice as you enter Jeffersonville
and would be across the street from the brand new
extensive residential area on Court Avenue.

Go Jeffersonville!
The best acts of philanthropy are those that actually get done. Where the money is delivered not just kind words and well wishes. John delivers and if he wanted advertising it would have been Papa John's Nachand Fieldhouse. Get over your jealousy and bitterness.
ReplyDeleteI say.....'lets wait and see where thus $800,000 really goes' . Produce the receipts that show just how this money is spent when that time comes. I bet they don't show us that. I bet the work that's done on the building will go to some of the workers in the court house that have other businesses outside their job ,like a plumbing , electrical ,carpentry business. They will be the ones hired to do said work on the building and will charge top dollar and get it. Point is i smell corruption. Follow the money.

JEFFERSONVILLE — City efforts to bring more residents to downtown Jeffersonville while developing vacant fields near the Big Four Bridge continue to move forward.
During a special meeting Monday, the Jeffersonville Redevelopment Commission unanimously approved a development plan for a 20-unit apartment complex
on Colston Park along Mulberry Street.
Schematics now await approval from the city's plan commission.
200 New Units, Shopping, Clubhouse, and Parking Garage
During the meeting, the redevelopment commission also approved a purchasing agreement with Waypoint Residential to develop at least 200 apartment units on another property across Mulberry Street, often called the old American Legion property. The agreement sets a $775,000 price for the land.
The apartment complex would also include a clubhouse
with amenities and a parking garage.
