Rumor Central...Moore vs. Sellers

The big rumor around Jeffersonville and Clark Co. and at this point
just a rumor. Is that coming off her resounding victory over incumbent Rick Stephenson in the Co. Commissioner election, Connie Sellers may be having an eye at the Jeffersonville mayor position held by Mike Moore. The race would be several years away as Moore just won reelection in 2015 and a lot of things could happen between now and then, but this would be a compelling race if it occurs.

It is no rumor that there is no love lost between Moore and Sellers which would add more intrigue to this possible match up. Since both are Republicans any contest would have to be in a primary and who would the GOP leadership favor ??? It's no secret that the GOP turned their backs on incumbents Rick Stephenson and Kelly Khuri in the recently concluded primary where Khuri and Stephenson were defeated.

You would think Sellers with her big recent big victory and the fact she could be the 1st woman mayor of Jeffersonville that it would be an attractive incentive in the future. Time will tell....

  1. The GOP would take Connie's side. They always do.

They could have had someone primary her in 2011, but the chairman held the other candidate's paperwork and didn't turn it in. Story was that the state GOP leadership liked Connie, liked having a woamn in office.

Then they talk her into primarying Rick (it wasn't the race she wanted) and put in a few sacrificial candidates because the math looked best that way.

Galligan has purposely put who he feels is a weak candidate up against her in the fall because Tom and Connie love each other.

She's a very open fan of the other party's chairman and his "visions," but the GOP gives her the red carpet treatment.

Just more evidence of the illusion of choice.

Josh Rodriquez, Ed Z, Nathan Samuel, Lisa Gill, all also "allegedly" have a lustful eye on the Mayor's job. Don't forget that Matt Owen, a Julius rerun, Perkins rerun, or Galligan rerun are in consideration as well. The new 'Mystery Candidate' is looking...... All of theses pols, R and D, have the "Power Itch"!
Connie is a nice person, but it would be very unusual
for one of the "players" to mount a successful campaign against
a successful incumbent mayor, especially one that has so much going on.
The internal mechanics of the Republican party supported the organizational move against Rick Stephenson and Kelly Khuri this primary season and the discontent against them in 2016. It is highly unlikely that such factors
would be in play in 2019. taking out Stephenson and Khuri in a county campaign
is a far different animal that defeating a well liked and very successful Jeffersonville mayor.
Jamey Noel and Mike Moore are very capable, are accomplishing a great deal,
    and have tremendous public support.
It would be very difficult to mount a Public Relations campaign to damage them.
They have very strong organizational strength.
Ms. Sellers will have her hands full dealing with the operating difficulties and funding shortfalls with Clark County government.
It is really unfair to place Ms. Sellers into such a discussion.
The case load disaster and increasing costs that the county court system is facing with the abolishment of the city court is still looming as well.
The landfill is a mess. The county commissioners have problems.
The DLGF has its hands full.
The yearly court ordered mandates by the county commissioners
ARE VERY EXPENSIVE for the taxpayers.
The lust may be there for many, and posturing and speculation
are always done by politicians that wish to gain more power.
Obviously, there will be candidates, person lusting ,
and "special interest" campaign financing assistance will be provided,
as it always have been by the disgruntled anti's, but the incumbent is very strong and is accomplishing a lot.
The contrasts between county and city government are immense. Stark.
It is doubtful that a serious candidate will be intelligently attempting the race.

  3. The GOP "leadership" is pathetic. Can Clark County sink any lower???

  4. People actually involved in the Republican Party laugh at looney comments like the one above. Leadership did not recruit anyone against Rick. Rick is a good guy, but he systematically ticked off enough elected colleagues to get organic primary opposition then ran a lazy campaign and publicly curried favor with democrats and the local tea party (most of whom are libertarians) and didn't focus on Republican voters. No offense, but the Hoosier taxpayer endorsement he sent out hurt him. Connie is a tenacious campaigner. Her flirting with Democrats in her city council time could have gotten her primaried if anyone thought they could actually beat her. They couldn't. Kelly probably had more universal opposition. A lot of people felt she went back on her supposed ideaolgy by siding so regularly with the democrats in her voting and her big government votes on zoning/property rights. She just wasn't regarded as a Republican and the tea party has lost a lot of its luster among Republican voters in Indiana after the Richard Mourdock debacle. Kelly is a very hard worker, but she was harvesting her crops in other people's fields while her home field withered.

    2. Funny that Connie and Ed Z can regularly side with Democrats while on city council but the above poster only calls out Khuri for doing so.

When Connie does Gilligan's bidding as commissioner, will these same Republicans see her as a maverick, or as a turn coat?

Seems the hypocrisy is a bit thick in here...

  5. Don't ever believe there isn't a lot of posturing and manipulation behind the scenes by both parties influencing who runs and and for what position. It's naive to think one can just decide to run for an office, sign up and that's it.

Gaining favor of party bosses is as much of the process if not more important than the campaign itself. Many a good candidate and sometimes officeholder has been abandoned and left out to dry by party leadership...

Give Jamey Noel credit here locally he has absolutely cleaned Galligan's clock organizing slates, bringing Democrats into the Rep. party fold and generally outworking him in every phase of the political.

Unless Dem.s wake up soon and give Galligan a retirement plaque it will continue to get worse. Noel has the youth, power, energy, and backing to keep the Rep. party vibrant. While Galligan hangs on because he has nothing to do the party languishes deeply behind. It appears Galligan will ride the Dem. Titantic right to the bottom of the political ocean...

  8. Unfortunately RINOs have permeated the local GOP. Verified by past Democrat primary voting records which are available in the clerks office.
