New Orleans, Minnesota, and Dallas

The last few days produced three more tragic events, more senseless deaths in these dangerous times we live in. The BatBlog won't sugar coat it ....as far as racial relations have come in the last century there is still a major distrust and tensions among races in America. As well there is a lesser but still a distrust of police  in both the black and white communities. This  is a time where there are more people, more guns, more publicity and news reports and social media that all feeds into what appears to be a never ending cycle of violence and killing.

Both black men and the police feel they are unfairly targeted by the actions of a few, which is true. Everyday thousands of police officers quietly do their job as well thousands of black men go about their daily lives without incident. The isolated incidents where a police officer makes a mistake or over extends his authority are rare but disturbing.

The news media fuels these tensions as well,  in these days of 24 hour news coverage these isolated incidents are magnified by repeated showings of violence, protests and videos that appears to incite and increase the mistrust and tensions among races.

Racism , mistrust and violence among us isn't going away... while in a minority there are too many people that perpetuate it in various ways every day. The BatBlog has no answers only hope that these feelings and violence directed toward different races, religions and ethnics  could someday end. Sadly though these hopes are rooted in deep skepticism...

  1. I believe officers will be exonerated in both cases. In Baton Rouge LA, that man was a felon who had a gun, and the more troubling incident in Minnesota, that man did not adhere to orders from police. Granted, the officer probably jumped the gun, no pun intended.

  2. anonymous: the one in Minnesota, the police asked him for his id and he was trying to retrieve out of his pocket, and he was shot and killed.

  3. When you wrestle with cops, and go for a gun, expect to be shot. Is that hard to understand?

I am sure this guy was just selling girl scout cookies...

Sterling was a registered sex offender, state records show. He was convicted in 2000 of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and was released from prison in 2004. Details of that case were not immediately available.
Sterling also had convictions for aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, unauthorized entry and domestic abuse battery, The Advocate reports. He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2009 for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and carrying an illegal weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.

  4. I don't like to prejudge these incidents
on the videos alone...A thorough investigation should give a better insight into exactly what happened...

The videos released by the press are too spotty to be conclusive...but unfortunately they incite certain individuals as shown by the protests and Dallas incident...

Not saying the police are innocent in these cases just they need a closer look...

  8. I agree Dude just from the videos it looks bad for the cops...especially the Minn. shooting where the cop looked jumpy. It looked like in the N.O. shooting the cop just tackled the dude right off the bat then fired when someone shouted gun...The amount of shots were also disturbing....but I still would like to hear cop's version of events before deciding...

  9. I respect police officers and the fact they put their lives on the line every single day. It is so easy to be on the outside looking in (or a video) in some of these cases and judge what they should or should not do, but in an instant they have to make a decision. The man that was asked for his ID did not bother to say he was carrying a loaded weapon until he was reaching for his wallet....stupid. I would have kept my hands up and when the officer asked for ID I would have clearly stated I had a weapon on me first and foremost. I carry a gun every where I go, and If I get stopped for any reason, that will be the first thing I tell the officer. It could save your life. I have never read about a single incident of a person fully cooperating with police officers getting killed. There is always verbal resistance, physical resistance, or some other form of resistance. We need to stop vilifying the Police Officers unless we are willing to put our money where our mouths are and join the force.

What you just described was a mistake, not resistance. You said he was reaching for his wallet in compliance with the officer's request.

    2. Verbal resistance in no way ever condones deadly force. I'm all for officers also and I'm well aware that the media has an agenda and only shows what they want you to see. That doesn't mean that police are infallible. Most are good at their job and good people but there are some that have no reason being a police officer. My point was that you pointing out forms of resistance and verbal should never end up with the suspect dead

  10. I agree Anon. most cops are good and it's a touch job...there are a few that give them a bad name and the media overplays some of this stuff that incites people when nothing is conclusive yet....
