Who's Going To Fill His Shoes ???
After the resignation of disgraced Mike Popplewell (R) from the Clark Co. council, the question being asked here and elsewhere is.... Who will replace Popplewell on the council ???
GOP county chair Jamey Noel and Matt "Lapdog" Owen we assume were too busy in Washington D.C. celebrating Donald Trump's inauguration to caucus republicans to fill the opening on the council recently. This delay has rumors flying.... the most prominent is that current 2nd Dist. councilman Brian Lenfert will slide into the vacant at-large seat and his 2nd Dist. slot would then have to caucused in. The BatBlog assumes this move must be legal but wonders about the ethics of such a move IF this is more than just a rumor.
The "ethical" thing in our opinion considering the circumstances would be to seat Joe Hubbard (D) the next highest vote getter in the recent election....but that won't happen. Hubbard is a Dem.and this as it stands now is a GOP seat and ethics have no place in politics, The next "logical" choice would be the Republican. who received the next highest vote total in the at-large election Doug Reiter, but logic rarely applies to politics either.
More than likely a candidate with ties to or favorable to Clark Co. republican chair Noel will get the nod. The caucus made up of precinct committeemen is stacked with Noel supporters and any caucus will more than likely be a rubber stamp for Noel's choice.
A anon. reader also posted a rumor that a prominent former Dem.who switched to the GOP will be the choice...he did not give a name. So the question remains "Who's going to fill his shoes???"

ReplyDeleteThe latest rumor is that Brien Lenfert
will be the person named to the vacant
county council seat by the CC Republican Precinct Caucus.
Mr. Lenfert's county council district seat,
if he is appointed to the vacant at-large seat,
would also be replaced by
a Republican caucus vote.
What is the speculation
on the name of the person
who will potentially get that nod?
The caucus is apparently set for February 1st.
The BatBlog likes Brian Lenfert and thinks he has done an excellent job on the council. Never the less we don't like this obviously political move. Doug Reiter ran for and was chosen by the Rep. voters to run for the council at large position and was the next top vote getters among the Rep. candidates...
ReplyDeleteAs we said before the logical and ethical thing to do would be to caucus in Mr. Reiter, but as we have seen all too frequently logic and ethics pretty much are non existent in politics especially here in Clark Co.....
Another thing lacking is common sense...
ReplyDeleteBat Blog Politically Interesting Intrigue
ReplyDeleteJoe Hubbard
could change parties
and be named to that seat.
He has experience on the council.
Mr . Hubbard is a good guy and did finish next
in the vote totals at fourth place ahead of Mr. Reiter.
Mr. Hubbard is in law enforcement,
so he would potentially be liked
by CC R Chair Jamey Noel.
Bat Blog Question:
"Does JPD Officer Joe Hubbard
live in the 2nd county council district?"
The drawbacks would be that Doug Reiter and his supporters
and other loyal long time Republican workers
and party supporters would be offended.
Also, some thoughtful persons
do not like politicians being double dippers
of two public salaries simultaneously.
Additionally, many loyal D's would be offended
if he switched as the D caucus named
JPD Officer Hubbard to the seat
vacated by Barbara Hass.
Officer Hubbard did suddenly drop the vote recount
of 52,000 ballots when he was only initially separated
from popular county councilman Kevin Vissing by 20 votes.
Balancing everything, Officer Hubbard would still be a good choice.
What are the other possibilities?
Noel and Owen think they are big time now lol.
ReplyDeleteDon't know about big time but that picture sure makes them look like a cute couple ! LOL
DeleteWhat would be the benefit to Republicans if Brian moved?
ReplyDeleteNo benefit to the party only to Lenfert as he will get a 4 year pass on reelection cycle. Granted, it is rumored that he only wishes to move to a larger home for his growing family. Fine move then but first finish your term or resign your post. Don't be a carpet bagger and jump to next greener pasture on a personal whim or private political advancement for say Steve Stemmler(forgive misspelling if it is wrong)post.
DeleteYou sir gave your word to the people of your district that mostly comprises of Clarksville so honor your Oath and Word.
Mind you this is all based on rumors thus far yet not above the off handed way of both Noel and his personal elites as they try to do things their (his)way until smell of scandal fills the air then they do what is known as a CYA according to IC, funny how things work out that way, if first you practice to deceive and get caught then lead with statues.
What's that old adage "If unable to impress them with brilliance, then by all means baffle them with bullshit" lose translation so to speak.
My question is how does the caucus members even know who is available for the post, I mean is there a ballot sent out of possible candidates or is that behind closed smoked filled room doors or what?
Does anyone know the way this is done or am I whistling in the wind?
I say that Doug gets the At Large post and that's that, any objections please do state them as debate is the fundamental basis of a gathering of knowledge and ideas of a Republic.
Now back to that water cooler I go, dang I'm thirsty.
For the record, Brian already lives in Stemler's district.
DeleteWhy is this being stated about "already living there in Stemler's District", what was asked/stated was is he positioning himself in a way of saving monies for his war chest that will allow him to go after that post in future if he doesn't have to deal with the costly mess of reelection for the post he currently holds.
DeleteAll I'm asking is does anyone have any insight to the behind scene's that would eliminate the rumor's from being just that rumor's.
All want transparency of elected officials and government offices........when it don't effect them......now since the "People" pay these officials for the jobs they ran for(or say interviewed for and won?)then the "People" should know ALL the facts/truth say like when did both Clarksville Town Council members, Clark County Republican Party Leader(s) know about exactly before the November elections that the former person that caused all this nonsense to begin with do his misdeeds? Also how long after the questionable second incident before swearing in to post and on and on and on?
Lot's of questions, oh good golly Miss Molly are there a lot of questions....... but will they ever be made public and open for full review or are there some behind scene's activities that may or may not be so .....oh shall we say......moral or ethical for an average honest hard working person to swallow and accept........light of day is such an antiseptic that tends to be avoided by ......you fill in the blank as to WHO in our happy little society trys to avoid it........back to the water cooler I go....
What about David Abbott?
ReplyDeleteBat Blog Political Journeys
ReplyDeleteBrien Glover ran for a county commissioner slot
and then moved up from his city council job.
Zach Payne ran for county recorder and them moved up
from his city council job.
The Republican caucus filled those vacancies
with new faces and those persons ran for the city council gigs.
Does anyone remember if their caucused successors won in their primaries
in 2015 or made it into office via election?
Connie Sellers did not seek re-election to the city council
and then successfully ran the next year for a county commissioner slot.
Brien Lenfert is another bright up and comer on the Jamey Noel Republican team.
He is rumored to eventually be in line for a slot higher up than the county council and being in a county wide job is beneficial
for constituent exposure.
The well organized and highly efficient
Republican organization can also add to their team
with a new person that can successfully appeal
in the 2nd district county council race.
David Abbott made a move
switching parties out of moral conscience
and concern for the country. he does not live in the 2nd district, but could fill in the at-large slot. It is very doubtful that the Republican Party leaders
would select him as they have a very, very deep bench.
Mr. Lenfert has lobbied the DLGF and the Indiana General Assembly
to restore county government funding to help their perennial shortfall.
Other multiple governmental taxing entities
might not want their pie split, but the taxpayers
are funding the yearly county mandates anyway.
Bat Blog Inspiration:
Clark County government could get a bill in the legislature
to get an appointment to the Jeffersonville Redevelopment Commission
to get their hand into siphoning off vital economic development funds for their projects, just like Greater Clark County Schools is attempting to do.
Maybe the county government could also get a voting appointment on the Clarksville, Sellersburg, and Charlestown RDC's to get some
of that money as well......
I hear the great and powerful Oboma is out of work. Perhaps he could throw his hat in the race.
ReplyDeleteObummer?
ReplyDeleteI think they are referring to the Muslim Marxist
who was indoctrinated by Saul Alinsky.
CNN and PMSNBC liked him back in the day...in what is ancient history.
And another of his great accomplishments was commuting the sentence of Manning, a disgrace to our military and country. And after his/her sentence was commuted he/she criticized Obama for doing it ! What class............

ReplyDeleteIt looks like some of the brain trust from the CCC has migrated to this site. Obama will be remembered as a very good president that had to suffer the ignorance of some of his nation's citizens. Looks like we got some here.
ReplyDelete" Obama will be remembered as a very good president that had to suffer the ignorance of some of his nation's citizens."
ReplyDelete...lol...
How DID that eight years from a "community organizer" work out for ya?
SMH.
Obama had very little experience inn management before being elected as potus. His first experience with serious work was senator. He gained little experience with the Senate staff. When voting as a senator, he voted present due to lack of courage to show his convictions or to protect himself from labeling himself one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteSo Obama was learning more on the job than many past presidents. I think his failings were due to these reasons.
