Jeff Mayoral Race and the Wizard of Oz

Has anyone noticed the similarities between the Dem. Mayoral Primary and the Wizard of Oz. We have the innocent newcomer Dorothy (T.P.) being shown the way to OZ along the "Yellow Brick Road" by the grizzled political veterans. We have the Tinman (T.G.) who doesn't have a heart and is a woodsman (he always carries his axe.) Who chopped down most of Vissing Park. Then we have the Scarecrow (K.V.) who lacks a brain and actually thinks he can win. Finally we have the Cowardly Lion who lacks courage.
How does the story end up who will find the Grand Prize at the end of the yellow brick road. Will the Tinman get a heart and realize he shouldn't have chopped down Vissing Park or bulldoze people's houses for a Canal. Will the Scarecrow get his brain and realize he doesn't have a prayer against the others. Will the Lion get enough courage to see himself as Mayor once again. And finally will Dorothy realize she isn't in Kansas anymore she's in Politics now, and it isn't the same world she's accustomed to. Politics is a dirty business, can sweet , innocent Dorothy be able to handle and defeat her opponents "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as they lead her down the "Yellow Brick Road" to the Land of OZ (Dem. Mayoral candidate) we'll find out the first Tuesday in May...

The county office holders, including the council and commissioners,
overspent their CERTIFIED budgets for FOUR years.
The lack of oversight and responsibility by the commissioners, the council, the Treasurer, the Auditor, and the other county office holders is appaling.
One year the State Board of Accounts found that they overspent their CERTIFIED budgets
    by $6,000,000!

They couldn't even determine how much money they had in their budgets and how much they were spending!

They are still arrogant about it.

The vast majority of them are Democrat Big Spenders, but some were Republican members of the Clark County Council during this time frame.
Chuck Moore and Kevin Vissing are on the Clark County Council and Mike Moore, Chuck's brother, is a Clark County Commissioner.

To add insult to injury, Monty Snelling, who was a Republican member of several of these councils that should have exercised constraint, was then ELECTED to be the COUNTY AUDITOR!

As H-T as pointed out on the Award Winning Bat-Blog,
it is truly "The Land of OZ"!

Dude, while you are after these hacks, go ahead get them at the county level, to pay back the now over $1,000,000
of user fees paid into the CCADS fund by citizens for their counseling.
The Clark County Council diverted that money and dolled it out as political favors in an old fashioned "slush fund".

  3. I know!
The CCC is always offering to let the pols come on their site and pontificate and ANSWER TO THEM!

Maybe H-T could get the members of the Clark County Council or Commissioners to come on the Bat-Blog and explain the incompetence and misfeasance.
Not ONE of them said a word.
Include specifically the political critters that were on the council or commission when the lack of oversight occurred!

"Uh, ....you mean we were supposed to know how much we had to spend?
Gol-lee...That's tooo hard to keep up with."

The spin will start....."it was that pesky levy thing"....

    Ha!
    Sic 'em, H-T!

  5. H-T: I know that you have a "special appreciation" for Brother "Kevin in '11" and his "political acumen".

It seems that 'ol brother Kevin is one of your all time political favs!

I know Kevin and Mike Moore are having a lot of fun arguing on the CCC right now
about important stuff like signs, but "Kevin in'11" might make
a great first political critter to 'splain it all to us!

    Bluto

  6. H-T: For your readers out there in Yorba Linda:

    acumen:

    a·cu·men/əˈkyo͞omən/
    Noun: The ability to make good judgments and quick decisions, typically in a particular domain: "business acumen";
keenness and depth of perception, discernment, or discrimination especially in practical matters.

Little Pickle- This is not encyclopedic, but just some of the things I know I have heard discussed and expressed by Teresa.

On the canal she has said,

"I decided to research a less costly solution to solve our overflow problem that will meet the EPA requirement. I have met with four engineers, two of which are environmental specialists and two civil engineers familiar with this scale of project. There are less costly options that can solve our sewer overflow and drainage problem potentially saving us upwards of $60 million -- or roughly half of the projected cost of the ?canal?. My vision involves creative engineering and uses much of our existing underground system. Our current plant was designed to be expanded at its present location to almost double the present capacity. Why would we want to spend millions of tax payer dollars to return treated waste water back from the existing sewer plant to fill a proposed ?canal?? I reject the idea that if ?we build it, they will come?. (touted as the economic development component of the canal project) We tried that before with Veterans Parkway and it
failed miserably. We cannot count on ?canal? investment to offset the construction cost considering the state of the economy. I am particularly concerned that we do not have any commitments from private investors for the canal district. Again, we must not make the same type of costly mistake we made on Veterans Parkway.

Why not, instead of investing tax dollars on a manmade, concrete ?canal?, absolutely minimize the cost of responding to EPA mandates and apply the savings to add to the value of Jeffersonville?s premiere asset, our beautiful existing natural riverfront?

What issues are you interested in?

I believe her vision is that the best way to develop the Veterans Parkway is, surprisingly, to encourage the building of the East End bridge and establishing a link to it via 265. (take a look at a map). That would create a traffic pattern connecting Eastern Jefferson County all the way to Clarskville and would run that traffic through Veterans.

I believe she sees the Big Four/Greenway as a real "water feature" that in ten years could be a premiere attraction. By that, I mean that some sort of 'water feature' as or more imaginative than a canal but less costly and more 'natural' at or around the foot of the bridge access.

I believe she expects to explore all the federal incentives for assisting entrepreneurs incubate 'green technology' businesses. One can imagine the space in the quartermaster depot and even in the old Corden Porter school as typical sites for low cost overhead startups to have the physical space to develop innovative business projects.

    I could go on.

All excellent ideas especially an alternative to the Canal, it's a shame our current administration didn't look in this direction. Tens of thousands of $$$ have already been spent on what is basically a re-election ploy that has hit the taxpayers wallets hard.

To this point Ms. Perkins campaign has been all about the issues and she should be commended for that .I haven't heard one thing she has said negatively about any of the other candidates, their families or their campaigns. Win or lose Ms. Perkins has run a classy campaign, focusing on her vision and ideas for Jeffersonville's future and not who has done what in the past.

Congratulations maybe it is time for a woman and a non-traditional politician to lead us into the future.

  12. So should we follow The Jeff Mayoral Race by listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon? I ask because I have heard that if you click play on that CD when The MGM Lion roars for the 2nd time on Wizard of OZ that the music follows the story exactly. I have no actual knowledge of this as I would never do nor have I ever done any of the activities that would make one think that listening to Pink Floyd while watching The Wizard of OZ is a good idea. However, I have heard a rumor that it works.

Perhaps I should put on some Floyd and mosey over to The Chatter and see what happens.

  14. Is it so wrong for our elected officials to live in a budget like many households in Clark Co must do? I mean if you do not have the $$$ for something then cut back and reduce expenses, Please learn to live in a budget. I would be more likely respect and re-elect someone that states up front we will cut services and have lay-offs because we as a county or city do not have the funds at this time this whole sewer system in Jeffersonville stinks in more ways than one….
