Jeffersonville City Council ....1st District Revisited

One and maybe the only intriguing race in the Jeffersonville City Primaries is the 1st Dist. (D) city council race. The BatBlog has noticed a lot of Kate Miller signs going up recently and this could be a horse race. We didn't give Ms Miller much attention in the 1st post on the 1st Dist. an oversight on our part that we apologize for, as she appears to be a very viable candidate as is Dustin White the 4th candidate in the race.

Kate Miller
The BatBlog still supports and thinks Becka Christiansen is the best person for the Council seat, but also give Mr. White and Ms. Miller their due respect. What the BatBlog is concerned about is a split vote might allow "Toxic" John Perkins to slip in the back door. A crowded field for one position will sometimes provide for a skewed result and allow an under achieving candidate like Perkins to steal the race.

Dustin White with the main man
We hope this isn't the case as "Toxic John" who doesn't even reside in the 1st district  and is in the race on a technicality probably couldn't beat any of the other candidates one on one, but in a crowded race could be a threat. Wouldn't it be ironic to have "Toxic John back on the council as he is probably one of the most reviled candidate in City history. Perkins is like a cat with 9 lives, nobody thought he would ever hold office again but lo and behold he was back as County Commissioner....Could he be back on the Council ???

The BatBlog still thinks Becka should and will win but we are not as sure as we were a month ago....

  4. That's another interesting strategy... will Republicans vote as Dem.s in order to vote for Perkins so they can beat him in the fall...
    Interesting scenario....

  5. The GOP doesn't have a District 1 candidate!

Word is they won't have one.

    Becka has to win!

  6. I guarantee if Perkins would some how win the GOP would find a candidate.... Perkins is too easy to beat, the only reason he might win the primary is because of the multiple candidates splitting the vote...

  7. Someone here said it looks like Miller has the support of the local party. I've heard Tom supports Perkins.

Then there was the endorsement for White in the paper from a bunch calling themselves the District 1 precinct committee persons. It actually looked like only about half the committee and vice committee persons from District 1.

Also, I was told the incumbent Mike Smith recruited Becka to run.

So it's a stretch to say Miller has the support of the party, but, unfortunately, there are so many factions, anything could happen including the dreaded JP win as a result of the vote splitting.
