The Donkey and the Lapdog

Not surprisingly Clark Co. sheriff Jamey Noel named Matt (Lapdog) Owen to the sheriff's merit commission. Owen who also works for Noel on the New Chapel EMS as marketing representative (huh ??? well that's a a whole another story.)

Most appointments to this board  are normally friends and political allies but this appointment goes beyond that and the BatBlog feels this is a poor choice by Noel that sends out the wrong signal. While it's certainly Noel's choice this appears to be  a purely political move that reeks of a conflict of interest.

Owen who is running for reelection to the Jeffersonville city council benefits from the added publicity, but we don't like the fact of office holders residing on multiple appointments to advisory boards and commissions. We don't think it is in the best interest of the people and voters to create these obvious conflict of interests with political appointments and manipulations.

Clark Co. Democratic chair Tom "Pot" Galligan also questioned Noel's appointment of Owen, but old Tom must have a short memory. TG gave jobs to two of his city council members during his term as mayor creating an obvious conflict of interest of providing jobs to those who financially ok his projects and spending. Galligans criticism is merely a case of the " pot calling the kettle black."

If Owen is to have a long respected political career he needs to show he can stand and make decisions on his own, and not be a pawn and mouthpiece for others. As well Jamey Noel needs to be careful, his close non majority election was not a mandate....political manipulation will be seen for what it is....and the Batblog is vigilant and watching you....

  3. Only in politics can you go from a busboy one day to a public relations director the next.

  4. Actually that is an insult to hardworking busboys and servers. Actually I know several food service workers who are very intelligent and dedicated employees. Are we going to demean laborers next?

  6. With any luck, after tonight's parks funding vote, Owen will have one less job to worry about.

  7. Noel has packed the New Chapel EMS with his buddies and political allies, many of whom are precinct committeemen for the local Rep. party. That is the way you build political power and influence.

  8. No matter what the politics of the Sheriff are, the merit board is always, repeat, always filled with the Sheriff's friends and associates. This is certainly not a new development. There is an appearance of impropriety, but again, this is not a new development.
