Looks like former Clark Co. sheriff Danny (Hot Lips) Rodden will get off pretty easy for his rendezvous with a prostitute then lying to the feds about it. Thanks to a plea deal brokered in federal court Rodden will likely receive no jail time and a very small fine.
The BatBlog really has no problem with this apparent "sweetheart" deal, as dallying with a prostitute is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Lying to the feds is another matter though and we wonder if the average Joe would have gotten the same deal for multiple cases of lying like Rodden did. The embarrassment and shame Rodden brought to his family is the real tragedy of this whole sordid affair, and any good Rodden may have accomplished during his term as sheriff will be overshadowed and his legacy will always be remembered for the shame he brought on himself, family and the people of Clark Co.
The BatBlog also says "bullshit" to friends and supporters who claim "entrapment." Rodden knew damn well she was a prostitute, he was a sheriff and all his actions were illegal and he wasn't even man enough to admit it when confronted by investigators. Entrapment my ass...We wonder how many people Rodden arrested during his career got harsher penalties for lessor crimes than those committed by our ex -sheriff....and if this was an isolated incident and he's only sorry he got caught ???
if the average citizen lied to federal investigators like Rodden did they would get a lot more than the $2000 fine that was mentioned in the newspaper.
ReplyDeleteI really wish everyone would stfu about the Rodden thing. He was married while whoring. The wife deserves more respect, and fewer reminders would be the compassionate choice.
ReplyDeleteMight want to spell check next time. The is word "lying", not "lieing". Just a suggestion.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the point of the newspaper article was that a recent Supreme Court decision could impact the severity of the potential sentence Rodden might receive, not any sweet heart deal he received because of who he is, etc. He basically is getting a lucky break thanks to the ruling in someone else's Federal case.
Sorry Anon.2 the compassion for his wife should have come from Rodden himself...he and he only is to blame for any embarrassment brought down on his family...
ReplyDeleteRodden was paid his salary and pension from tax dollars and we taxpayers have every right to discuss this...
The wife and family don't deserve the attention I agree but there is only one person to blame...
Yes he is getting a break from the Supreme Court decision on one charge
ReplyDeleteI have to believe he is getting the "sweetheart" deal on the lying to the feds charges a small fine was mentioned
Anyone else caught lying to the Feds would get jail time.
ReplyDeleteThe " false statements" charges are small potatoes . Once the 1519 charge became impossible it was over. Anyone would have the same deal. But , then again, maybe this is the opinion of a know nothing " jailhouse lawyer"
ReplyDeleteIt's no big deal the punishment...it seems like the government should at least recoup the cost of the investigation and process through fines though...
ReplyDeleteIf Ridden has a conscience the guilt of the embarrassment of his family is punishment enough. But on the other hand he should have had conscience enough not to put his family in jthat kind of jeopardy in the first place....

It is a likely possibility that Sheriff Rodden was set up and all the alleged criminal "crime" created in the view of some attorneys.
ReplyDeleteThe CCC had some nice explanations and definitions of the alleged process.
Congratulations to attorneys David Mosley and Larry Wilder.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, they made the system sit up straight and provided the correct protection of the rule of law.
The questions remain
ReplyDeleteas to why Sheriff Rodden was introduced to the government's operative undercover operative and why the entire series of scripted events subsequently unfolded in the first place. There was no predisposition or reason to commit any illegal activity. The entire mysteriously allegedly created sequence of events made no sense as it was not involved with any illegal activity. It seems to have been "created out of whole cloth" as the phrase goes. What was the purpose? Why did it occur?
The "smoothing" introductions and subsequent step-by-step events had no bearing upon any law enforcement activity. There was no basis, indication, or suspicion for any investigation in relation to any criminal activity. The entire process was done for what reason?
ReplyDeleteWhy was the operation conducted in the first place?
The Bat Blog could go undercover in an investigative journalism capacity and determine what went on and why it was done.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tammy could infiltrate the "investigators" and the agents and ascertain what occurred? I can see another journalism award for the Bat Blog!
My impression Anon. is that Rodden just got caught up being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
ReplyDeleteDon't think there was any grand conspiracy to get Rodden or entrapment.
Like a lot of local law enforcement and office holders a sense of entitlement and feeling they will never be caught sets in...
And Rodden like those others who have gotten caught is their remorse genuine or is it strictly because they got caught they feel so sorry...
Maybe, just maybe, Rodden was given to the Fed's by a local gambler to save his own rear ?
ReplyDeleteIf you have any details on that Anon. shoot me an e-mail at hoosiertaxpayer@outlook.com
ReplyDeleteanonymity guaranteed...
What has been stated is accurate.
ReplyDeleteThere was no crime by the Sheriff.
If there was no crime ,why is he on probation for two years ???
ReplyDeleteThe jails are full of criminals who are just as remorseful as Rodden ...they just couldn't get a "sweetheart" deal like he did for being a politician with connections...
HT...don't disappoint us by going with the 'he was a politician' so he got off light.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time you heard of somebody who got on with a hooker being the target of a FEDERAL PROSECUTION?
Meanwhile, the only 'crime' was when they asked him.."did you get a blow job from a hooker" he said "No".
Any married guy in that position would have done the same. The vast majority ..anyway. He was targeted ONLY because he was 'a public figure'.
It was all BULLSHIT.
The only reason he got a 'sweetheart' deal was not because of 'connections'.
ReplyDeleteIt was because the only serious charge was voided because of the SCOTUS decision in YATES which came down 2-25-2015 which decimated the Govt's case.
After that case, the only thing the Feds had was not admitting he betrayed his wife and family. SOME CRIME. (smh)
Don't forget the same prostitute also took down another sheriff in Indiana. What are the odds of a single prostitute sleeping with 2 sheriffs unless there was some kind of selling or united access to her. Is someone pimping prostitutes to sheriffs? Who? Perhaps that explains the FBIs involvement.
ReplyDeleteSo that makes it alright and perfectly legal that this prostitute was with another sheriff... and I guess Roddenn wasn't aware she was a prostitute as well... and perfectly fine to give away taxpayer purchased and department clothing plus I guess allowing her to pose as a department employee to get hotel discounts...
ReplyDeleteYou friends of Rodden are commendable for your loyality but face facts he got a sweetheart deal.In all honesty he could have been charged with theft of department property, fraud and solicitation of a prostitute...
Face facts I don't care how many priests he surrounds himself with he is a snake in the grass and a liar who betrayed the trust of the people of Clark Co.,his wife and family.
He may have done some good things in his life but this will be his legacy along with the incompetence and deals he brokered as sherrif....

Nobody thinks it is "ok" he betrayed his marriage vows and got in with a hooker. It isn't.
ReplyDeleteBut how many people have you EVER heard of being prosecuted for this in FEDERAL COURT?
Something Stinks mister
For that matter how often is the ISP involved in chasing down hookers? Stinks to high heaven.
What did the other sheriff get? If you bothered to check it out, he was 'protecting' her while she plied her trade. That seems a lot more serious than what Rodden did...but how come they didn't charge that Sheriff?
STINKING ALL THE WAY FROM INDIANAPOLIS and the ISP HQ brother!
