Say it Ain't So Joe....

According to a News/Tribune article fourth place finisher in the recent Clark Co. council race Joe Hubbard (D) is considering filing for a recount of last Tuesday's election. "Say it ain't so Joe"...while legally he has every right to file ,  his only real chance would be to knock out fellow democrat Kevin Vissing for the 3rd position, The two republicans elected have solid leads for the first two positions... When The BatBlog went to press.  K. Vissing had about a 20 vote lead over Hubbard.

The BatBlog thinks Hubbard should be a good sport and let the recount idea drop. If the GOP candidates were within reach we could understand it. A recount could only knock out Vissing if the results are overturned. We have seen in the past how recounts here locally have been a disaster in determining the actual vote count. So in the best interests of  everyone and to avoid infighting within the Dem. party we believe Joe Hubbard should step aside. K.V. has been a solid officeholder and Hubbard is a young man with future elections ahead of him...So Let it go Joe...

  1. If he has a shot, I hope he goes for it.

He's said to be one of the few on the council who really thinks about what is being proposed and will ask questions. With Kelly K leaving, someone has to fill that role. Kevin is a nice guy, but not a thinker or fighter.

  2. It is felt that Kevin Vissing is an exceptional councilman
who asks questions, is a nice guy, is a fighter for the taxpayers,
and is a significant thinker about what is being proposed.
    Kevin fills the role.

The Republican Party in Clark County
has clear sailing ahead of them and calm seas.

Most local Democrat candidates are looking at a serious uphill climb.

The base of the Clark County Democrats is decimated
and the current top 10 or so party "leaders"
    (not necessarily current office holders)
are way too ideological to rebuild a viable party apparatus.

    They "ideologically reject" any efforts
to expand participation, bring in broadly based newcomers,
or attempts to build for the future.

The tasks ahead is will be very challenging.

    1. You nailed it BBRO...both nationally and locally Dem.s need to take a long look at itself...

The party needs some fresh new blood to change the trend ...here locally the party is in shambles due to dinosaurs like Galligan and Perkins hanging on because their enormous egos won't allow them to realize they are washed up has-beens who are killing the chances of Dem.s becoming relevant anytime soon...

  5. When President Obama won in 2008, he helped Democrats win throughout the nation. In 2012, half of those Democrats lost.
Our most recent elections, 2014, 2016, elected mostly Republicans.
It is not a reflection of local Democrats, but on national politics.
If Trump does well, this trend will continue.
If Trump does poorly, and a new face for Democrats emerges in 2020, then local Democrats will be back.
It has very little to do with local Democratic leadership.
Look at some of the recent elected republican council members. Poppawell, was disciplined recently for stealing credit card information from a fellow officer, and many more hidden from the public, fireaball infractions.
Conway our soon to be councilman would have been fired if in the private sector for his poor performance as Coroner.
It just shows that it's all about the national trend.

  6. National politics do have some effect no doubt...but your theory just doesn't hold water. Obama won big in 2012 yet the trend toward GOP in the house and Senate was beginning to emerge and remember Hillary actually won the popular vote.

The local GOP has gotten progressively stronger through all the Obama years while Democrats lead by Galligan and an old Dem. caucus hung onto the past. No way "Toxic" John Perkins should never have been caucused into the vacant Co. Commissioner's position..

Even a poor showing by Trump will not help local Dem.s to the extent of putting them back into power locally. The trend has been set...only strong effective leadership and new faces can gradually reverse the trend on both national and local levels.

Your examples of Popplewll and Conway are true but I would bet 9 out of 10 voters were aware of those facts...they were just part of the local GOP machine...

Democrats need new fresh faces ...Clinton's time had passed as have the tired old faces like Galligan and Perkins who still think they are viable faces of the Dem. party...

  7. Clinton won in large liberal states. We are talking Indiana, not California or New York!

  8. Sometimes it comes down to right and wrong. If Hubbard feels he has a chance to win I don't think the letter by his name should stop him. So let the games begin....lol

  9. Joe is having a recount. Of course this will drag it out longer, but He has that right.
He called to let me know an hour ago. Joe is a good man, and is deserving of a seat on the council. He workes very hard, and does a great job!

  10. Who will be the lawyers for Kevin and Joe?
    Will lawyers be essential?
This recount will be more civil as it is just a D and a D
and it is unlikely that the fifth or sixth place finishers could move up.

  11. I am glad to see that Mickey Weber is involved.
This recount will, probably, alas, be much more boring and mundane
    than the last one.

David Mosley vs Larry Wilder in the last one was nifty fun and high drama!
However, it was a D against an R and that complicated the process.
This will be a routine dullsville recount.
    Dang it!

  13. Recounts are a flawed process a real crapshoot on who wins... It's good to see the cooperation between the two candidates though...

You could probably recount the votes 10 times and get 10 different results...
