Bridge Tolls Revisited...RiverLink's Incompetency...

The BatBlog knows everyone is tired of us complaining about tolls but a recent story in the News/Tribune rang a bell and we thought we would revisit it. The story was about Black Diamond Pest Control and how the business was being overcharged on multiple occasions by Riverlink the company in charge of the tolling on the local bridges. Black Diamond had over 1000 trips across the various bridges during the last billing period by Riverlink and was overcharged many times and dollars.

Something  readers might not realize is that businesses will spend tens of thousands of dollars traversing the new bridges. You can bet your ass they aren't going to eat these added costs. The consumers you and I will be paying more for good and services to compensate for the tolling expenses added on to companies that serve Kentuckiana. The tolls that keep on taking money out of our pockets.

Also Riverlink is off to a poor start collecting these tolls and users of the new bridges are being warned to check their accounts for mistakes that appear to be quite common. So now we have to double check... wasting our precious time for the apparent incompetency of the company hired to do a job that they are apparently doing quite poorly. River Link's motto is "Now We're Moving" yeah...moving money out of our pockets into Theirs...

The BatBlog promises not to cry over tolls for at least another month or until RiverLink screws The BatBlog out of their hard earned money...Remain Vigilant and check your Riverlink bill !!!

  1. They should have tolled all the bridges, to spread the costs around. And thereby reducing the toll for each crossing. Considering all of the Sherman Minton and 2nd Street bridge traffic, each crossing could have been down in the 50 cent per crossing range. Why was that not an option? I've heard the excuse that we can't put a toll on bridges already built and to that I say... Kennedy Bridge!!! it's being tolled. Ugh

    1. They wanted to toll all of the bridges but people complain that they shouldn't have to pay a toll to cross a bridge that their tax money had already paid for. Then they decided to redo the Kennedy Bridge and that is why it was added to the tolls, however the Sherman Mitton and the second Street bridge were not because no work was done to them.
I would not be surprised to see some work done to both bridges sometime in the future so that they can't be tolled.

  2. Good point SM but would it be fair to toll a bridge in another county that residents for the most part wouldn't need or avail themselves of the two new bridges ???

  3. My story.......Don't buy a car until the end of the month...

I was driving a PTC with an account transponder until the 18 th of January. Sold car, removed transponder. ( which destroys it.)
    Bought a Jeep.
Can't get a new transponder, they don't have any. Called Customer support. Registered Jeep to my account, requested a replacement transponder.
So now they are counting trips by the temp tag. Customer Support said all would be good.

Apparently this is a big No-no, Because I bought a car( a replacement car, not additional ) I cannot receive the 50% discount for frequent drives.
I have 42 Documented crossings and 11 missing. They say I owe $106.00 in tolls. Instead of the $53. If I had drove the PTC until the 40 trips were met.

UGH !! I filed 2 disputes. And took the Second Street Bridge this morning.(2-1-2017)

  4. To me if you live in one state and prove you work in the other.
Your account should be set at the $1.00 rate automatically. I would rather stop each time and toss quarters in a bin than what they are doing now.

  5. I agree TL, if you work in either state and travel it regularly tolls should be reduced. Also it concerns me the burden on small businesses who have to traverse often. As you related the RiverLink's whole process is a real cluster f _ _ _.

  6. Still waiting to see a list of states that they do not collect from. Seems to me that could be a lot of semi-trucks not paying their way.

I can see them becoming another "Chicago toll authority".

    1. Every state is collected from. None are exempt.

  7. HT... Is it fair that Clark County residents get to shoulder the cost burden of all this infrastructure just because of where they live?

    1. I respect your opinion just don't think tolls should be placed on bridges already built and paid for... the Kennedy included. I will say your plan would lessen the burden on those now paying the tolls...

  8. No Riverlink. No transponder. No tolls. No messed up bill.

Second St and Sherman Minton are good enough for me.
