Clark Co. Council Race

Clark Co. residents will elect three council at large seats on Election day 2016. Three candidates from the Dem, Rep. and the Libertarian parties will vie for the seats on the council. The candidates include two current  Democratic council members Kevin Vissing and Joe Hubbard running for re-election.

With the current financial situation facing Clark Co. these council positions are important positions to fill,  as the council is the fiscal body of county government and guardians of our tax dollars. The BatBlog believes both incumbent candidates (Vissing and Hubbard) deserve and have earned re-election. Their experience and time spent handling budget concerns in their first term gives them an advantage over the other candidates. This current council has for the most part done an excellent job handling the budget crunch the past few years.

The BatBlog's other endorsement goes to Libertarian candidate Kelley Curran. Ms. Curran has been active locally in the community for several years and has shown the kind of interest, intelligence and caring of community that would make her an excellent councilperson. Kelley will have a difficult battle ahead as Libertarian Party hasn't reached the prominence or the financial backing enjoyed by the two major parties.

The influx of domination by the GOP here in the county recently will make the Republican candidates tough competition for all three seats and these could be close races across the board, The BatBlog believes in the best interest of all Clark Countians Kevin Vissing, Joe Hubbard , and Kelley Curran are the right choices for the these county council positions...

Be sure to Vote !!! and vote for Kevin , Joe and Kelley...

  1. What has Kevin (give the judges everything) Vissing accomplished during his tenure. Seems to me every law suit the county has settled in the last several years had something to do with the courts screwing up. Why does the council not stand up to them?

    1. Hopefully Kevin will answer this himself but here's my take...First of all it's not the council's place and they don't set policy for the judges or any dept. in county government...

The council is to maintain budgets and be the fiscal(monetary) part of government. Due to mistakes made by previous councils the money allocated to the county isn't sufficient to run efficiently.

During these constraints Kevin and the current council have managed well under tough circumstances. They have denied requests for more funding to keep the budget in line as much as possible...I think Kevin will tell you he has learned a lot during his term and his experience and knowledge is real valuable to taxpayers going forward...

    2. The Council sets the budget and appropriates funds. We try to keep all department heads to stay within their budgets. The council generally sticks together on all votes.
Can anon be more specific where the Republican majority led council has been led by councilman Vissing to give in to the judges?

    3. The judges can mandate any time they want. So the council has to follow a fine line on their budget.

  3. Wouldn't vote for the obstructionist Curran if she was the only candidate.

    1. First of all Kelley isn't an obstructionist, she is much involved in community matters like the local homeless committee and cares about Clark Co. . She is very intelligent and would be a good overseer of our tax dollars making sure they are spent wisely. I don't agree with everything Kelley stands for (national politics mainly) but I am smart enough and savvy enough about local politics to know she would well represent us on the Co. council...

    honest, and knowledgeable candidate.
I am voting Perry as my first choice for the council!

    1. There's good experience and bad experience Anon., I think Smith along with M. Snelling were on the council that created the big snafu that caused the state to lower the budget for Clark Co. a budget that is impossible to maintain....

  14. I agree with vote for Mr. Hubbard and Ms. Curran but I think Mr. Vissing has a conflict as his girlfruend works for one of the judges.

    1. How would that be a conflict? I have no direct capabilities to affect any one employee. If I did, I would recuse myself. County Government is different than city council. We are just fiscal. I am just one of 7 voters on the council.

Clark County Clerk Susan Popp has worked with the Indiana General Assembly
to change the law and voting process that caused the voter confusion
that led to the contested city at-large races in 2015.
Having to vote separately for each individual
in the Clark County Council At-Large race
now helps to reduce the confusion was that was present
in the city at-large race in 2015.

No straight ticket voting is allowed for the at-large council races
and each candidate must be voted for separately
in order to have a vote count.

No "Straight Ballot Votes" for the at-large candidates are allowed.

A voter may vote for none, one, two, or three
from among the nine competing candidates of the three parties.

Remember, love is important and does not disqualify!
    It ENHANCES!

Is there just one person with a significant other
working in the courthouse or city hall?

If Mr. Vissing does have a girlfriend working in government, that is really cool!

What the World needs now is MORE love, and LESS vindictive hatters.......

It looks like Mr. Vissing will be easily re-elected and he is very well qualified.

I have noticed a Republican headquarters on Eastern Blvd. in Clarksville.

Do the democrats have a headquarters and a "turn out the vote" effort
    for Clark County?

There are calls being made from Floyd County
into Clark County from the Democrats there to attempt to energize the vote.

The "Smart Money" says that Trump, Bayh, Gregory, and Yoder(9th District)
appear to have good leads in the polls.

What is the story on the other state level races?
    Any Bat Blog info?

She seems very engaged and up to date on the issues.
Shouldn't the Libertarian candidates be considered?
