Will the Big Four Bridge and Downtown Revitalization Get Mike Moore Reelected ???

So far , so good in the revitalization of downtown Jeffersonville. The Big Four Bridge opening has created a noticeable increase in pedestrian traffic  which is a welcome sight for the new and existing businesses in the downtown district. The new walking bridge is bringing people from both the Kentucky side and local residents to the area. Plus the Big Four has created a lot of buzz and publicity and is something unique to draw upon.

For mayor Mike Moore the timing is perfect and this has to be a big boon to his re-election chances in 2015. Voters like to see positive changes and progress and this definitely fits the description. Moore has had some bad personal publicity, as well as some well publicized differences and personal battles with members of Jeff's City Council which has tarnished his image a little.  This recent upswing of  downtown though, might offset earlier mistakes made by the mayor. The the walking bridge was planned well before Moore took office, but he may reap the benefits politically of it's opening regardless of who had the original idea.

Moore needs to expedite the construction of the new park at the foot of the landing so as to have a shiny, new example of progress as well as a perfect setting to announce his 2015 reelection campaign. The bridge that has brought several new businesses, the new police station, the planned new marina and fishing pier on the riverfront are all good things Moore can hang his hat on in his bid for reelection.

The only major announced candidate so far for the mayoral position  is Dem. City Councilman Dennis Julius whose campaign announced early on has generated very little excitement as of yet. Julius will have to attempt to distance himself from his business ties and monies made by the controversial 10th St. landscaping debacle that his company was contracted by the  city to do.

Moore has his critics led by Jeffersonville's version of Grumpy Old Men (Mike Hutt and Kruger) or as they are known  "Moan"  and "Groan", but nobody pays any attention to those sad, bitter. old men...The way it appears know Moore is in the drivers seat for reelection in 2015....

  1. The major improvements finally completed in this administration in downtown Jeffersonville and at the riverfront after decades in the planning are good points for the current mayor's re-election, but probably even more important is the substantial job growth that this administration seeded, nurtured, and harvested in a relatively short time.

  2. Yes the job growth and improvements are things that most influence average voters. Most voters are probably not even aware or care about Moore's feud with the council. Most voters want lower taxes, job opportunities, and nice amenities like the Big Four Bridge...

  3. How did Moore plant the seeds for job growth?

  4. Julius stands for everything that WAS wrong with Jeff.

Lord knows we don't need anymore shrubbery, paid for by taxpayers.

    1. Moore is everything wrong. Not to mention one embarrassment after another.

  5. Don't need the good 'ol boys drooling at the mouth for Julius to win to get whatever it is they're so excited about.

  6. Moore has more critics than those being "led" by NSBHM and Kruger. There are many in this community who are dissatisfied with Moore's performance who don't participate in or follow any of the local blogs.

  7. There are a lot more failures than successes. What about the EVA mandate that he promised to take care of when in office? What about the flooding downtown? What about the traffic problems on Holman Ln and Allison Ln? What about the smell coming into town from the sewers? What about the marina destroyed. Without permits to rebuild? What about using redevelopment money for pet projects that do not spur development.

I will be the first to say that economic development is thriving in this area. But, my question would be how many of these jobs were brought here by anything Jeff did? River Ridge and One Southern Indiana are the ones pushing cart on all of this. When was the last time you read about a new company coming to anywhere in Jeff that was solicited by Jeffersonville redevelopment office?

  8. Sure Moore has critics the Galligan groupies never gave MM a chance from day one. And Moore has been embarrassing, acted like an ass, and disappointed some people there is no doubt.

As for the last Anon. everything you mentioned the flooding, the smell on 10th, the Holman Ln traffic, using redevelopment money for pet projects has been around and been done here for years some for decades....

My only contention with the post is that some nice things have gotten done lately and that benefits Moore in 2015 whether he is the driving force behind these nice things that's questionable...that includes the jobs , redevelopment etc.

I would like to see a good Democrat run against him somebody like Steve Stemler...I just don't think Julius is the right boy ...

I have been as disappointed as anyone at times with Moore. He's been unprofessional, childish and bullying at times. But until some other new, exciting candidate comes forward I think MM has a good shot at reelection the way things stand at this time...

  9. MM having a good shot at re-election is my opinion not an endorsement...

I will say if the choice is only Moore or Julius...I'll vote for Moore...
