Four More Moore Years....2015 Election Rundown

The people have spoken and riding a wave of unparalleled growth mayor Mike Moore won a 2nd term as the mayor of Jeffersonville, and deservedly so. While his relationship with the city council has been contentious at best, the people of Jeffersonville showed they are Moore than pleased with his leadership and awarded him four Moore years of leading the city into the future.

The Republican party once again has put it's boot on the throat of the struggling Democrats, who managed to win only two city council seats and an uncontested City clerk position. The beat down was so complete that 2 of the 3 Democrat winners had no GOP contender making one wonder what would have happened had the GOP had candidates in all the races.

Kevin Vissing in Dist, 3 is only 33 votes behind pending  absentee vote counting in his race against Callie Jahn so there is some hope for Dem.s there. Kevin worked hard and deserves a win....

Hopefully everyone will get behind mayor Moore now, but already there are disparaging remarks on Facebook about Moore's win and those who voted for him. One only needs to look around, go down to the riverfront and see the exciting change and improvement on the new "Fisherman's Wharf". Lots to look forward to in the next four years but also a lot of work especially improving the traffic infrastructure that we are rapidly outgrowing...

It's an exciting time and The BatBlog is looking forward to  Four More Moore years !!!

Note : Pending changes from absentee votes the BatPoll was a perfect 9 out of 9 and HT correctly picked 7 of the 9 winners in today's election.... wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather

4. Riding high on unparalleled growth yes. But growth the mayor had very little to do with.

Over the next 4yrs is when things will become much more clear as to how effectively MM can or can't lead a 2nd class city.

There's no past administration to continue to blame although I guess there's still the council to blame when a whipping boy is needed. But more important there are very few projects left-over from the last administration to finish and take credit for. They're going to have to not only come up with their own ideas but make them happen too. And not just the fluff projects the mayor is becoming famous for.

It's all on them now. Will be interesting to watch.

5. Sour grapes Anon. like him or not Moore has shown leadership and the city has improved leaps and bounds from the Galligan years. The voters have seen this and even after campaigning for four years Julius never showed any semblance of being a leader...

6. Can't wait for the Feds to come in and take over the city sewer's, Moore will never comply with the EPA mandate. Jeffersonville just reelected a man with no plan.

7. Waaaahhh waaaahhh you're flooding my blog with tears...The Consent Decree has been around for years ...Galligan did nothing about but raised sewer bills to pay for it...

Actually your also wrong as well...the work on the interceptor line has begun and the decree doesn't have to be met until 2025... and Moore will still probably be mayor then so come back in 2025 and complain...

8. Not sour grapes HT just an observation. I take defeats pretty well and move on.

We don't even need to give it 4yrs. I think we'll be able to begin to tell if
they have any clue what they're doing or not much sooner than that. And my prediction is that in 4yrs people will realize there may not be a great deal of substance in the mayor's office. A lot of little feel good projects but little else. The only project I'm half confident about right now is the Marriott going in at Colston. Maybe.

I'll be happy to be proven wrong. But I also hope that you and others can be objective as well to what progress is or isn't made in the city.

H-T is correct.
2015,
2019,
2023,
then two more years on the current agreement.
Three additional terms!
The interceptor line at 10th
and Spring is about finished.
The remainder of the "unfunded sewer mandate" from the feds
has ten years.
It will probably be modified by agreement.
The canal is "dead all over again" as a solution.
Some additional final alternatives are being examined.
Rates are outrageously high.
Very will go up.
Enjoy!

10. Oh I can be very objective, all the growth I know isn't Moore's doing but its has been remarkable considering the previous 20 years.

The self appointed mini mayors on the city council have to have their 2 cents worth of obstruction but Moore worked beyond that and things look promising for the next 4 years....

Jeffersonville is really booming.
$100,000,000 downtown revitalization.
Excellent commercial growth in the 'burbs.
The Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville.
Two news bridges connecting the three existing interstate highways.
The new airport expansion.
Significant industrial expansion.
River Ridge Commerce Center.

Exciting times!
Excellent leadership.
Quality of growth and progress.

12. Butt-Hurt Anon,

The marina is certainly a fluff project. Cough. The proposed development at 10th and Spring is as well. Cough. The interceptor, which does more to control CSO's, is fluff as well.

ReplyDelete
13. The interceptor at 10th and Spring is small and just a drop in the bucket of what needs to be done. They need another $30 million minimum to finish the rest of the interceptors. And, no one know whether they will all have capacity needed even with the poo pond. The sewer department is not raising enough money to fund the rest of the projects. Can't raise sewer rates again and the EPA is most likely not going to allow lengthening the time to become compliant unless we litigate. I hope Mayor Moore figures this out quickly because if he doesn't, it will probably be his legacy. I'm willing to give him a pass on the first four years but, action is needed!!

Snag!
As Yogi said: "The canal is dead, all over again!"

ReplyDelete
15. Another impressive factor in Moore's victory is that he had all the want to be mini mayors on the council campaigning against him, even those from his own party except for Owen. So you factor in Julius has been more or less campaigning for 4 years, tepid support from the GOP , and no support from GOP council members...some of whom were campaigning as much if not more for Julius than for themselves...Factor that all in and one awesome job by the mayor...

Ya'll SURE 'at dude did'n jump off 'at damn bridge ?

hahahahahahaha......

17. Yep Dude, Both Not Honest Mike and Kruger are MIA

ReplyDelete
18. I've only heard a few people on the chatter refer to the "poo pond" as Anon did above. I'm thinking someone did not jump off the bridge last night. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

The mandates will be met.
The canal is DOA.
Hutt jumped.
Kruger jumped.
Highway "Hillbelly" jumped.
Ed Z has to play ball.

20. "The beat down was so complete that 2 of the 3 Democrat winners had no GOP contender making one wonder what would have happened had the GOP had candidates in all the races."

The Dem candidates could just switch to the Republican side. Seems to have worked out pretty well for Moore.

ReplyDelete
21. Great idea Anon. we get Galligan to switch to the GOP and then watch them go down the tubes...

ReplyDelete
22. They'll go down the tubes perfectly well on their own. I'm surprised that someone as savvy as you doesn't understand that politics are cyclical.

ReplyDelete
23. Yes politics are cyclical but putting TG in the GOP would break the cycle real quick...

We have a lot of flip floppers too , plenty of the former Dem.s around here are now Republicans

ReplyDelete
24. For how many years did Democrats control Clark county with no "cyclical" changes?

If that's how the democrats locally are going to console themselves, they STILL haven't gotten the message. With that excuse, they will refuse to do the soul searching needed to come back.

Perhaps they should do a poll. LOL

25. "We have a lot of flip floppers too , plenty of the former Dem.s around here are now Republicans"

I can think of a few...One in particular ( and not the Mayor) is coming to mind right now...I have no time or respect ( politically ) for someone who is so easily swayed by what's most advantageous for them...I realize people have the right to change their mind and that's fine...But more than once or for advantage and in all likelyhood I'm finished with you...Yes, I get the argument that local politics are different here with only little differences between the parties, but still...You should be able to stand for something bigger...Consistently.

ReplyDelete
26. I thought I lost you Jules, great to see you back..and hear your opinions.

ReplyDelete
27. Anon. is right for years and years it was unheard of to elect a Rep. many years the GOP was barely even represented on the ballot it was political suicide...

The only Rep. in those days to get elected was the late , honorable Dick Wathen as State Representative who always won...

28. I've been hanging around the last few months HT...Both here and over on GAW...Just reading not commenting...Easing my way back into blogs etc. after a couple tough years...My FB and a little CCC has been about all I wanted to deal with...But have enjoyed reading immensely. :)

29. Sadly, William "Bubby" Vissing was fired today. He received a call from MM in Florida. Bubby did a great job for the city.

ReplyDelete
30. I thought you were once a Democrat HT? It seems like you are now voting Republican?? Am I wrong??

ReplyDelete
31. That's one of the hazard's of political jobs....if you take one always be prepared. Bubby wasn't the first and won't be the last to lose a political appointment....

Yes still an Obama Democrat but did vote for 2 Rep.s Moore and Webb...

Sadly the local Dem. party has abandoned some the rank and file voters under Galligan's leadership...looking forward to someone new to breathe life into a dying party here locally.

ReplyDelete
32. Yes, it is one of the hazards and no political job should be counted on.

But we both know HT it looks petty for an incumbent to fire appointee's without true cause...Or when their perceived value is no longer needed ( which is the more likely reason).

It also shows a lack of empathy for the employee and their family...( But I guess that's the issue, i.e. family member didn't get the memo as to who they should be supporting). smh

I realize the Vissing family will be just fine, but still.
