BatBlog Endorses Mac Spainhour for Clark Co. Sheriff

First thing the BatBlog wants to say after last nights candidate forums, is that all three candidates appear to be good men and each one is qualified in their own ways to be sheriff of Clark Co. All three men should be congratulated for showing their respect for one another and running one of if not the cleanest race in county history.

What is important to the BatBlog and a clear difference in endorsing Mac Spainhour is his lifelong career in law enforcement and his status as an Independant candidate with no ties to either political party. He knows law enforcement, teaches law enforcement and has no  party loyalties in what is a very political position , and most important of all he is a good man with integrity who will make a fine sheriff.

Mr. Noel  has a long list of impressive credentials, training and positions. Our only concern is Mr. Noel with his numerous responsibilities ,might not have the fully dedicated time to give the sheriff's office the total attention required of the position, because he certainly does have the qualifications and experience to make a fine sheriff as well...

Finally Brian Meyer the Dem. who has worked his way up through the sheriff's dept. from corrections guard to his position now as acting sheriff. Mr. Meyer as well has the necessary qualifications and experience. His campaign rightfully or wrongfully has probably been tarnished by the Rodden affair. We're sure Mr. Meyer would be his own man, but his association with the former disgraced sheriff may be a hindrance to his election chances.

It is a time for change in the sheriff's dept, In the past we have elected sheriffs already within the dept. In the BatBlog's opinion a sense of entitlement has settled into the dept.We have characterized bad behavior and arrests of sheriff's dept. personnel...It is time to clean this up and the alleged drug problems within the C.C. jail....and we think Mac Spainhour is the right man for the job.

It won't be an easy task for Mac as it appears Jamey Noel might have a slight lead heading into the last month of campaigning.  While the sheriff's dept. should be in capable hands no matter the outcome...We urge everyone to get out and elect Mac Spainhour Clark Co. sheriff....

  1. Good choice HT, Mac's the man!

  2. Mr. Meyer talks about cleaning up the drugs in the community. His first priority should be cleaning up the drug trafficking in his jail. Searching the trustees when they enter AND leave the jail would be a start. If we can't control drugs in a jail we damn sure can't control them on the streets.

  3. Riff raff should not just be allowed to walk in off the street and take home an inmate sentenced to the department of corrections either.

  4. The last 2 sheriffs were from outside the department. Rodden was from Jeff PD and Becher was a former state trooper.

  5. As you said, all three are fine men and certainly deserve a lot of respect.
The biggest problem that most Clark County residents should have, in regards to the prospect of having Mac Spainhour as their Sheriff... should be the fact that he is a retired Conservation Officer... of which have often been the outlet for many law enforcement agencies to call upon when they need to use their "without a warrant" powers that they wield. Mac Spainhour knows full well of these powers... don't look past the fact that... his own son is an active Conservation Officer. That is quite troublesome for anyone that even thinks or believes in individual liberties.

  6. Anon.

Thanks for the correction on Becher and Rodden....

  7. What are these without a warrant powers you speak of and in what instances can they be used? There must be some type of limitation.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I don't see that as being an issue. That's a stretch to think the sheriff's dept. calling in a conservation officer to use their no warrant powers.

I'm sure Mr. Spainhour will protect the "individual liberties" you speak of....

  9. Not as a cheap shot to Mac, but you are seeing "no party affiliation" as a good thing? Not sure I see it this way since this was not his choice. The reason Mac is running as an independent is because neither party would endorse him. Not sure I see this as a plus, just my 2 cents. I just hope people are smart enough to pick a candidate that isn't affiliated with the continual mess that is the Clark County Sherriffs Department

  10. HT, I respect your opinion, but I assure you that it is not a stretch at all. Just pull aside any law enforcement officer and get them to speak freely about this "ace in the hole" option that they have... and they will tell you how often it happens. This warrantless power is a blatant violation of rights and it consistently gets ignored by our justice system. Frankly, it's something that needs eliminated. Ask any serious outdoorsman about a Conservation Officer's warrantless powers and you may catch yourself astounded by the stories of that abuse. Speak to a Conservation Officer... and they will most likely just shrug it off. Unless of course... you catch one bragging about that power... which has often been alleged about the younger Spainhour.

  11. Jamey Noel is as was stated very qualified for the position and will make the best Sheriff.

  12. Conservation Officers are granted their search and seizure powers by IC 14-22-39-3 and that law does not supersede the Constitution. I've been around Conservation Officers several times and have heard the answers given (As a matter of fact the younger Spainhour this year at the 4H Fair). Typically the officers smile and explain this statute to the questioner and explain to them that there is no agency that can overstep your 4th Amendment right. This is a myth that they laugh about and joke because there are so many people who believe it.
Mac Spainhour took an oath, just like all law enforcement officers do at the beginning of their careers, to uphold the Constitution to the United States of America and I don't see him calling upon his son to perform illegal searches and seizures for him once he becomes sheriff. To make such an accusation is an obvious attempt to discredit him and his family members.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Conservation officers do have expanded powers regarding warrants, but Mac is hardly responsible for that power existing. Unless you have an example of him abusing that power or allowing a supervisee to do so, it's a cheap attempt at tarnishing him.

  14. HT Greaser says you are alright. Mac would be fine...so would Brian Meyer..but you dare not let ISP run your county son.

    That's what Greaser said...not Goliath.

Do you want Goliath to ask about other races and stuff?

  15. There is no myth. As one pointed out, it is a fact (IC 14-22-39-3). No one has alleged that Mac personally abused this power, but oath or not, the option is there at too close of arms reach for my taste.
With this in mind (IC 14-22-39-3), regardless of who wins this race, one should really re-think that bird feeder that they have in their backyard.

  16. By the previous posters' admissions, non conservation officers may "borrow" this power, so it doesn't really matter who the sheriff is. If you have a problem with the power, get to lobbying to have it restrained. There's no good reason to try and attach it to specific people as of it's their fault or implying they've abused it or will abuse it in the future.

  17. Mac ran as a democrat last sherrriffs race and lost in the primary, the only reason he ran independent was to get through to the final election this time, and the only reason he hasa chance now in my opinion is because ofthe poor behavior in the sherriffs office now that is hurting meyers race, and as for jamey noel i am sure he will have no trouble balancing since he has been doing it all along, and he will retire from isp if he wins and can delegate the rest. He wouldnt have made it this far if he didnt know how to balance his time and effort.

    ReplyDelete
  18. So special. The man says he decided to run as an Independent to be independent. The candidates are keeping it clean, but their supporters are calling people liars and making up civil liberties violations.

    Classy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You gotta love the false accusations, and mud throwing ways of other candidates' followers when they get nervous! Did it ever occur to anyone that the Democratic Party has changed from years ago? There are a lot of us who have been registered democrats all of our lives that will be voting for a candidate that stands on his own name and a platform of answering to the public rather than a political party.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Uhh, then I guess you will be voting Republican this year? That's the only way to get a candidate standing on their own.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, I don't buy into the accusations of Mac abusing the power of non warrant conservation officers one bit.

And don't question his decision to run as an independent either, that is his decision alone... whether it be from non support of the Dem. leadership or whatever...

The local democrats are a mess right now and he probably made a wise decision...

  22. Mac Spainhour proved in that news tribune forum that he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Did he get choked up during his question about Danny Rodden? Why was he talking about drowning? I almost hope they put it up online permanently.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mac realized that he was not going to win a primary against Chuck Adams or Brian Meyer... fact. Mac then considered "turning coat" and proceeded to court the Republican ticket option... fact. Once he realized that Jamey Noel was likely going to run on the Republican side, he chose the only option available to him (Independent)... fact.
All of that is OK. I simply would not champion that decision as such an attribute that catapults him up, over and beyond the other two candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why? Having an emotion is a disqualification? Sounds a little sexist.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Keep bashing everyone... If the B.S. Warrant stories won't stick then try something else.... Election season always brings out the best in people. Mac Spainhour had the ONLY response to the Clark County people the day Rodden was arrested by the Feds. It was a Facebook post explaining the entire situation. It was also very classy, and the day I chose him as my candidate. Just because he chooses to not bash a guy while he is down should be commended and not looked at negatively. I'm really shocked at how people are acting on here. Totally childish and desperate.....

    ReplyDelete
  26. As I sit here and read all the comments, I have to agree with one of my fellow anonymous's. The candidates are keeping it clean. We should respect their decision to do so and follow their lead.

If you are on the defensive for a candidate, you have obviously made your choice. Arguing with another who has made their choice gets you nowhere, except maybe frustrated.

Rather than try to reveal attributes we believe tarnish the opponents, try simply posting the things you find to be positive about your choice. It's time to grow up, put away our childish tendencies and present the things we feel are beneficial about your candidate. Spreading doubt, confusion, and uncertainty are old tactics and are part of the problem.

If we truly want change, it has to start with us and our attitudes.

  27. As far as Mac being the only person who commented on his CAMPAIGN page about the Rodden situation, I think it shows how inexperienced and green he has been in this campaign. Why should he talk about that on his campaign page? It has nothing to do with his campaign. John Kahafer's death also has nothing to do with politics, yet he talked about it on his political campaign page, NOT his personal page. Keep your campaign page about your campaign. Post other things on your personal page. It's either classless or stupid. I haven't figured it out yet.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bullshit. People asked him for comment. He kept it classy. Shame you didn't.

  29. I watched the ivy tech forum and there is no doubt that Jamey Noel is the best choice, i am a firm believer on researching ur candidates and not just picking them because their a great guy or u have known them for years, Noel is the most qualified. And will be the best choice to whip this county into shape, if he does everything he said in these forums.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Keep drinking the kool aid...... Glad to see the Noel supporters out bashing in their typical fashion! If I was Jamey Noel I would be telling my supporters to shut their mouths before he loses more votes than he already has from the ARROGANCE Train! You don't see any other camps pointing out the negative things Jamey has done in his past. Get over yourselves....

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm still trying to figure out, why is everyone so angry?

    ReplyDelete
  32. As a Mac Spainhour supporter I'm just tired of hearing how running as an independent was an easy way out somehow. What?? Do you really think that running independent is an easier road to go down? Obviously you've not been around politics very much. The fact that both of these candidates have approached Mac in their own separate ways to ask him to bow out and support them shows what they think of his credentials. So when you get onto a blog like this and have their supporters acting like he isn't qualified for the position it gets extremely frustrating. When I looked at Mac Spainhour's little booklet about himself and his plan it far outweighs anything that either Jamey or Brian has released. I understand that everyone has the right to go to the polls and vote for who they choose and I encourage everyone to do so. Coming onto a blog and bashing other candidates isn't the way to have people join you in your endeavor. Mac's people will be Mac's, Jamey's people will be Jamey's, and Brian's will be Brian's.....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Everyone has their own reasoning behind which candidate they support. These men haven't disparaged each other only stating why they feel they are most qualified for the position...

I think they genuinely like and respect one another which is rare in C.C. politics and a good example to follow as we discuss the candidates and who we support...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hoosiertaxpayer, it'd be wise of you to follow your own advice. That's pretty rich coming from someone who runs an entirely blog that is designed to cut down local politicians.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jamey Noel is the best person to serve as our sheriff! It has nothing to do with his party or anything else he is involved in. He puts forward 100% in everything that he does and would be a great change for Clark county!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just call them like I see them..and run down the one's that deserve to be run down if you don't like it try another blog....and I happen to think all three gentlemen in the sheriff's race are qualified candidates and will do their best to clean up the mess left by Roddenberry....whoever is elected... I support Mac but any of the three will make a fine sheriff IMO..

  37. Mr. Noel, fire Chief of two depts. Utica & New Chapel two huge salaries! A private ambulance service backed by taxpayers? Profits in his and his close families pockets!! State Police salary! Republican chairman for Clark county! Yes Clark county make him sherriff more money more money!!! More politics less service is what we will get!!

  38. How does he have time to be a state trooper?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Spainhour showed me all I needed to know about him with the witch-hunts he led down at the Falls over the past several years...Innocent men were targeted and hurt by this "oh so moral" man...And I know that for a fact...But as if that wasn't enough to put me off of him I have it on good authority that when he was given the chance to attend some type of meet the candidate forum ( or something that political candidates were invited to) @ Clayburg towers he had no interest in attending because he couldn't be bothered with "those people"...I realize that's very inflammatory but I'm confident in my source...So as far as I'm concerned he's also a racist...And I hear is a braggart to boot...Thanks but no thanks.

  40. About qualifications...The captain of the Titanic was qualified as well! So....

    My opinion.
Mr.Noel has too many paid employees (or family members and spouses who receive $$ from his connections) in offices such as coroner, council members, and candidates for offices etc. IMO. Too much concentrated power for my taste.

Mr. Meyer has 25 + years of being under the previous administrations thumb. Old dog new tricks?

Mac is real. I like what he has done with our youth, he cares about his community and our future leaders. This is where we need a focus to stop the pipeline from our schools to the jail. Our kids and parents need this type of law enforcement aka peace keeper, to protect and serve us.

After vetting the candidates now for months, I have made my decision.

    Mac it is!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mac attended Claysburg days and has a strong relationship with several individuals within the African American Community. To make that statement is slander and just another attempt to try and keep an honest man out of office. Have you seen his latest flyer by chance? John Starks is endorsing him so why would he do so if Mac is a known racist. What a joke! Also the arrests at the Falls and other state properties are not witch hunts. They are justifiable arrests from what I've always seen. Also you do realize that when those arrests were occurring that Mac wasn't the arresting officer right? He was the public information officer. That means that he just reported the arrests, not made them. Go educate yourself before making ignorant comments. Try again!

  42. Thanks for all the comments this race has obviously drawn a lot of interest. Good luck to all the candidates...
