Conflicted Feelings on the Judges Races

There are two judges races on the ballot here in Clark Co. on Nov. 4. In Circuit court 3. incumbent Joe Weber (D) faces a challenge from local attorney Kyle Williams (R). Weber is the nice guy, that personally everyone seems to like. He rides around in all the parades in his little old truck, sporting his silly hat and is all smiles....kind of a judicial Ronald Mc Donald...don't get us wrong we like Joe Weber and more than likely he'll win big over newcomer Williams.

The problem we hear with Judge Weber are reports of a couple of probation officer employees running roughshod over Joe creating dissension  within the Department. It appears to be a case of  "the monkey's running the zoo" scenario . Take home vehicles, poor work habits (time on the job, doing things not within the scope of their job), personal credit cards  and other issues appear to have created  a question of government waste as well as the dissension in the Dept. Judge Joe you preached fiscal conservatism in your N/T  interview how about cleaning up the alleged mess within your department,

It won't make much of a difference though Weber has that consummate nice guy and politician persona and we are not sure Mr. Williams has the background or experience to handle the huge caseload required of a Circuit Court 3 Judge. Ronald errr we mean Joe will be reelected.

  1. Seems to be accurate. After the election we are sure community service joe and the good ole boys will be even more out of control and intimidating than before. Sad really.

  2. Vote him out and all his little cronies, their questionable activities and work habits go with him. Clark Co needs better and deserves better. When goes he will take $250,000 worth of worthless employees with him.

  3. Weber's style doesn't appeal to everyone. I watched the reaction of people at the FOP dinner. Weber had strong supporterd there that catcalled Williams and cheered Weber, but to those not already loyal to Weber I believe he came off as a slick-ass politician and his supporters behavior offended people. Williams won the undecideds that night.

Most voters aren't entitled little rich men. That schtick doesn't impress everybody and it turns off many. His supporters behavior during the aftermath of Tammy Jo's murder and Weber's excuses to the media was a huge turnoff too.

Williams represent a change and he provides some balance to the "unified" court desperately needed with the loss of Moore.

  4. I was at the FOP meeting and greet. I thought the Weber fans were very disrespectful. If Weber does win it will be a step backwards.

  5. Nothing against Williams but the GOP blundered by not running a stronger candidate against Weber.

Weber wins all the style points goofy grin, aw shucks attitude, and his name has been around forever.
he does work a lot of cases but not sure how good of a lawyer or judge he actually is.

The Democrats lost their best judge in Dan Moore he was a no nonsense, sharp judge but wasn't the good ole boy act like a clown guy that it takes to get elected ...a real loss for Clark Co. citizens and justice....

  9. It doesn't resemble Joe, it IS Joe

  10. You got a mention in the paper, HT! A letter to the editor suggests folks come here for info on candidates!

  11. HT I thin you got it wrong when you say Kyle Williams is not a strong candidate. I met him at the FOP fourum and found him to be quite knowledgeable in both law and Clark Co. politics. The weber supports that night were a major turn off to me as well as all at the table I sat with. They were they only ones to try to disrupt any candidate. I think it does help to point out that they were his employees, most of which are being strong armed into campaigning for him. That is why Kyle has pointed out in his adds that he would not use any employees in that manner or any other non work related manner. Most people are simply tired of the same old politicians and their good ol boy support network, which I why I predict a Williams WIN.

  12. People around here throw around the term "good ole boy" alot and clearly have no idea the origin or what it really means.

  13. Well Anon. since you're so well versed on "good ole boy" and we aren't , why not enlighten us with your wisdom...

  14. Yes I might be wrong about Williams as being a "strong" candidate, having never met the man only going by word of mouth on his lack of experience.

I should have said more widely known candidate, personally I would have liked to seen Brad Jacobs run against Weber...more widely known, better name recognition.

I agree about the "good ole boy" network even though we don't know what is (rolling eyes) we need to end it. Weber is part of it, been around for ever and I'm not even sure he's qualified most of his career and where he got his name was Clarksville City Court which is mostly drunks and shoplifter cases...

  15. A “good ol' boys” network that refers to informal legal, judicial, social, religious, business, and political associations among males and that prohibits female participation. But, I know that this “good ol' boy” networking extends far beyond discrimination against females...it also extends to other men who do not “play the game,” or who are gay, who belong to a religion that doesn't suit the company, or who have the “wrong” associations, relationships or networks.

  16. Laura Harbison beat one of the good ole boys. Jacobs only stepped up to run against her because that court then appeared to be the easiest race of the three.

I commend Kyle Williams for his backbone to take on Weber.

I have heard there were other lawyers willing to run against Adams but Jamey wouldn't give them permission. He has the sole appointing power so he doesn't need the permission of the precinct committeemen.

  17. Worst service in the county is Traffic. Weber allows them to close every Wednesday at noon to "catch up on paperwork." Try calling them, they never answer their phones. Try going to pay a ticket on your lunch hour. Oh wait, You can't because they close for lunch around 11:54 and return around 1:05ish. The employees are daughter and wife of probation employees that are under investigation in your other post.

Can you imagine if a business in the private sector ran like this? The whole court house shuts down at lunch. It's not a user friendly environment at all. Funded by the people they serve. Pitiful. Stop trying to act like fiscal responsibility and public service is a priority, Clearly it's not Judge Weber.

Williams and Webster are needed in my humble opinion. I have heard from both of them that the public they serve will come first.

  18. The defense attys like weber because he will not put people in jail.

  19. I too will be voting for Williams. I was at the FOP event and Weber acted like he was put out that he even had to run against anyone. I also do not like the comment he made about his court making a profit. Call me silly, but I did not know courts existed to make a profit. Sound to me like justice might be on sale down there. Maybe 30 years and 30,000 cases is enough for him. You know, actually if you do the math that comes down to 1,000 cases per year, 19 case per week, and just under 4 cases per day, yet he claims to do the work of three judges.

  20. Most of Weber's cases are bullshit cases that should not even be brought before the court. They put everybody on probation from minor alcohol cases to farting in public. He puts everybody on probation to jack up the numbers and squeeze as much money as he can out of poor people. Nobody goes to jail because his home custody staff can't make any money on people in jail.

  21. I think you have got it wrong, HT. I met Kyle Williams at the Sellersburg Celebrates parade. Unlike Weber, who stayed in his little truck, Kyle walked and shook everyone's hand and acted glad to meet us. Then he stopped long enough to let my daughter take their picture with her phone. My daughter thought it was so nice of him to do that. Call me simple, but that won me over.

Fast forward to the Silver Creek Trick or Treat last week. Weber was there, but was letting his workers hand out candy. Kyle was out front meeting people and complementing kids on theirr costumes. My daughter went through the line and Kyle saw her immediately and gave her a hug. She showed him the picture that she still had on her phone.

Kyle acted like he cares. Weber didn't. Talk about "style points." What class.

  22. Weber feels entitled and is pissed that he even has to go out to work for votes. Clark Co. needs a breath of fresh air and Kyle Williams is just that. I don't want a politician on the bench, I want a judge who will hold people accountable and not just try to build a probation empire.

  23. Mr. Williams is an intelligent, hard working, no BS guy. We need he AND Laura Harbison as judges. Brad Jacobs doesn't seem too bright to me and I heard him say he will keep duplicated programs like the Home Incarceration. Even though we pay for the county one while the state pays for the other. Why? "Because these are our people and we have to keep them employed" I was shocked. Just what we need!
Vote Williams and Harbison for Judge. If only Carmichael's term was up! She should have been a social worker. She has the passion for that, nothing wrong with it, just not a judge's job.

  24. My vote goes to Williams and Harbison, Out with the old in with the new

  25. Some of Brad Jacobs and Andrew Adams campaign signs show them in the Marine dress outfit. Obviously this appeals to veterans as well as others. The Evening News article reports that Jacobs spent 4 years in the reserves while in college. Is this true of Adams as well. I would hope that some of this four years was served on active duty, not as a weekend warrior. 4 months of training at Parris Island just doesn't cut it.

  26. Most of the Good ole boys are Democrats and men. Not all however. I'm afraid Ms.Harbison may get caught up in the straight party voter Republican backlash. That would be a loss. Shes intelligent and independent. She owes no obligation to the old school in Clark co. She seems to be a quality person who is a voice of moderation.

  27. Vote with your wallet in mind. Webers probation staff and budget are the most over inflated in all of county government.

  28. Give the court house an enama, vote weber and his boys out.
