Tech Tip - How to View a Blocked Site

A lot of newspaper sites including the local News/ Tribune have gone to blocking their internet content unless you pay a subscription fee. Well the internet is free folks, and there are numerous ways of getting around paying those fees with varying degrees of ease to difficult. The N/T site actually makes it simple, if you're on a laptop try tilting your screen to various angles...at certain angles the content is actually pretty easy to read even though the screen is whited out. If you're old like I am and want to read it more easily there are a few other ways. Sometimes merely opening a privacy window on your browser will allow you to view the blocked content, you may want to clear your browsing data before hand by going to tools in your settings menu and you will be given several options. In Google chrome the privacy window is called going incognito simply right click on your chrome icon and you're given the options for opening a new window.

Another easy way if those others don't work is going to a web site that provides proxy IP addresses there are many out there. Here's where you need to be careful though, some sites will want you to download their software...I recommend NOT doing this , there are bad guys out there and you could be downloading a virus, malware or something that could compromise your identity or information.  I recommend only those sites where they provide a window to type the blocked site you wish to visit then hit (browse, send etc.) This will then have you browsing under a fake IP address provided by the site and works pretty well most of the time...some sites are faster then others so you may want to try several and see what works best for you. Also eventually the website blocking the material may start blocking the proxy providing site then you may have to find another site providing fake IP's.

Finally there is a site that covers other more complicated methods TECH II it covers them pretty thoroughly. Hope this helps, my feeling is the internet was meant to be free, if you want to hide your content don't use the internet. The great thing is there are people out there providing help to make it free , the downside is there are bad guys out there as well. so always have a good anti -virus protection and watch what you download.

If anyone else out there has some good tips feel free to share them.....
