Point / Counter Point ...... Goliath's Podcast

The gospel according to st. Tom
The BatBlog would  like to comment on GAW's recent podcast. First of all it was great idea having some of the local candidates, a couple of whom are new to the political scene on hand in an informal type of setting commenting on politics and other issues. Judge candidate Laura Harbison   was particularly interesting as a new comer to the local political scene, she was well spoken and charming and she plugged the BatBlog. She will make an excellent replacement for Judge Jacobi.

Overall the the interviews were well handled by the "Hood" and the Big "G" with the exception of the Galligan interview. The Hood gushed over Galligan like a teenager with his first crush.  Hood and Galigan made it sound like Galligan  was totally responsible for every job, every business, every economic gain in all Clark Co. since time began, simply because a new sewer plant was built during his term as mayor. Give us a break !!!

Galligan is all that is wrong with local politics and politicians. He bullied his way through Jeffersonville starting projects without the proper permits or permission. Some of these projects lay unfinished to this day with wasted tax dollars in their wake.  He illegally fired the sewer management firm which resulted in a  lawsuit that cost taxpayers nearly a million dollars. He hoodwinked and bulldozed the City Council into his grand "Canal" idea knowing full well that public was tepid at the least over the idea. The list goes on and on, under his realm Jeffersonville laid dormant for years.

There were a lot of factors that have gone into recent economic development in Clark Co.  and it's totally disingenuous  to think Galligan's sewer plant was the  pivotal factor that spurred the economic growth . If he was the visionary that he and the Hood make him out to be. Why didn't he have the foresight to improve the highway and road infrastructure which is now a mess in that area.

There was a lot of factors in the recent boon at River Ridge the main one being the good fortune of the land of the former Army ammunition plant  being declared surplus and conveyed by Congress to the local area. The BatBlog says thumbs up to the Goliath podcast but when it comes to Galligan lets tell the whole story and tell it like it is next time....

More Mandates on the Way....Higher Taxes

Look out Clark Co. taxpayers once again you are about to get hosed  The story from the N/T :  MORE MANDATES.
Yes a mandate has been filed filed by the Clark Co. Sheriff's Dept. and if John Perkin's has his way other Departments  may follow suit. Mandates are nothing more than tax increases, necessitated when departments can't or won't stay within their allotted budgets.Unfortunately for Clark Co.property owners and taxpayers these mandates have become almost an every year occurrence or in essence a yearly tax increase.

As every household  knows operating under a budget is at times a perilous, up and down situation that ebbs and flows with income (intake) versus outflow (expenditures.) Unlike Co. government though, individual taxpayers don't have the luxury of suing their employer for more money when their budget gets overdrawn. The BatBlog's position is that there is absolutely no incentive for the individual Dept.s of County government to stay within their budgets. Spending goes on uncontrolled knowing full well that the taxpayers like you and me will just foot the bill....Where does it end  ???

The Sheriff's Dept. has already filed for a nearly 6 million dollar mandate for shortfalls in that Dept,  and Co. Commissioner John Perkin's proposal to finance another $870,000 shortfall  is to cut items from some of the various Dept's budgets then have the effected Dept. turn around and sue for a mandate. In other words Perkins is asking for a tax raise, it's as simple as that. Please remember this on primary election day...we are told how well educated Mr. Perkins is about government operations, you would think he could apply his vast knowledge and come up with something a little more creative than merely raising taxes.

The Adventures of Mr. Windbag

 wind·bag
ˈwindˌbag/
noun
  1. 1.
a person who talks at length but says little of value.

Hell has frozen over,  the BatBlog and Jeffersonville's resident Mr. Windbag NHBSM agree on something .... "Toxic" John Perkins. The only thing about NH is that he flip flops on everything. First he was against the Canal and everything ex-mayor Galligan did. After campaigning over 2 years for Mike Moore in one day (the day M. Moore fired him) NH dropped Moore like an ugly blind date. Now according to NH,  (in that one day) Mike Moore has replaced Galligan as worst mayor ever and now Galligan was a great leader and the canal a great idea.

NH (Not Honest) originally thought the Haven House should pay their own sewer bills and they shouldn't be given a break by City government. Now another flip flop... city government needs to cut the HH a special rate and forgive the past due balance. Councilmen  Smith, Sellers, Ed Z., Fetz were once mere puppets for Galligan, and a tax and spend  Council. Now that they oppose everything  Moore proposes, they are wise, responsible leaders that think on their own and are fiscally responsible. Mr. Windbag was once a staunch, loyal Democrat who ran for precinct committeeman but when he lost that appointment he flipped to a Rep.and was seen at Rep. victory party cheering on Mayor elect Moore.  What is Mr. Windbag this year, well you would think after ditching Moore he would be a Dem. again well he's recently been bad mouthing Perkins and the Dem.'s on the Chatter. So who knows but whatever he is or whoever he supports, it's only a matter of time before he goes in the opposite direction....

Laura Harbison, Brian Meyers, and Susan Popp making strong early showings and Dan Moore has a lead on Drew Adams. The only thing that has really surprised the BatBlog is the poor showing of ex-judge Steve Fleece, which may be due to the strong popularity of Susan Popp Stay Tuned and be sure to vote...

A Perfect Example .... the Ugliness in Politics Jeffersonville Style.... Attack Dog Politics

Douche Bag, Dumbass, Dick , Babbling JackAss, Jagoff , Batshit crazy loyal Kool-aid drinkers, loyal idiots, Mayor Prophylactics ....These are just some of the words used by former City Councilman Keith Fetz describing Jeffersonville's mayor and  local voters and citizens....

The BatBlog  has over the years tried to point out  the ugliness of Jeff politics past and present. Well the ugliness was never  on such a  vivid display as Wednesday when  former  City Councilman Keith Fetz  posted a maniacal personal rant on GAW about  Mayor Mike Moore.  To view Fetz's rant >>>>>Click Here

Mayor Moore has had  problems in his first 3 years some personal, some political, and some self inflicted. His political battle with the City Council has been well documented in the media and discussed here on the the BatBlog.  While MM's decisions haven't always been wise and mistakes have been made he doesn't  deserve the borderline obscene , ugly , viscous and resentful  attack by Mr. Fetz. It was in most respects  disgusting, crude with juvenile bathroom humor added for maximum effect.

I posted a response to Mr. Fetz's rant in the comment's section knowing full well that Fetz would turn his foul mouth, immature rant in my direction. I must admit in my comment, I added a few sarcastic personal references that I knew from past experiences would put Fetz into full attack mode. Yeah I kind of baited him and pulled his chain a little.

"Did you hear what Moore said"
I just want for everyone to see what a political candidate is up against in this City. Even if you win an election  by a comfortable margin , there's no let's try to work together for the betterment of the City attitude from the loser(s), your open to viscous attacks no matter how hard you try to reach out to them, or even if you attempt to do the best job that you can.  Unfortunately and it pains me to say it because I'm a lifelong Democrat, but it's most prevalent actually almost exclusive to the Democratic party, especially this last administration and their followers.

You say well politics is politics, that is true and everyone is entitled to their opinion and criticism of politicians comes with the territory. On the same behalf  there are boundaries of good taste which judging from from Mr. Fetz's rant is beyond the scope of his mentality. There is also the issue of truth, Fetz's claim that the proposed trip to Florida was nothing more than a vacation for the Moore family, yet he  provides not a shred of evidence that it is in fact true. Mr. Fetz  I'm going to take page out of your book for a moment and declare you  a LIAR...

Councilman Fetz
It's a pretty sad state of affairs of our local political scene to see this type of behavior from anyone especially a former elected official. It shows how easy it is for someone with a low character and values to be elected here locally. So when you go to the polls in May or November be careful we don't need anymore Keith Fetz type of politician.... Lets elect people who win or lose will work for the betterment of the City...Let's get rid of the Keith Fetzes of the political world forever....

***note***  As always the BatBlog offers Mr. Fetz or anyone to respond to any commentary within the BatBlog....Mr Fetz I know you follow thr BatBlog the floor is yours...

Breaking News

Breaking News******* The BatBlog has learned of an alleged possible settlement between Mayor Moore and the City Council....

The BatBlog has allegedly uncovered a compromise between the Jefferesonville City Council and Mayor Mike Moore over the proposed "Beach Trip" to Florida. The Council allegedly proposes sending  Mayor Moore to Florida to study the removal of dead humpback whales. Council spokesman allegedly released this statement..... "In working with Mr. Moore we propose financing a trip more in line with City business, you never know when a dead humpback whale will wash ashore on the Jeff riverbank. Mr. Moore will be able to study the proper disposal of such whales which could be invaluable in the future. This trip like previous junket of the previous administration to study the effects of UV rays on pale Jeffersonvilleites is more in line of what we here on the Council are looking to finance for City business. Mr. Moore allegedly is undecided on whether to attend but he allegedly did say something about dual standards.....The BatBlog is working hard to verify this report...

More Politics.... Jeffersonville Style

It's a never ending circus with plenty of clowns on hand as Jeff and Clark Co. politics continue to play out their  political games this week. In Jeff  Mayor Mike Moore had a couple of requests for airfare and accommodations to attend a couple of out of state conventions/meetings denied by the City Council. Instead of fiscal responsibility this denial of funding by the council  appears to be just more of the childish political back and forth between the mayor and the Council. The previous administration pretty much had an open checkbook for these frivolous trips and expenses and only now has the council  grown a backbone to deny them...seems rather curious to me. Then we have Council member Sellmer leaking to the press a snide personal text message she apparently received from the mayor chastising her for denying the claim.

I have never liked taxpayers footing the bill for these so called conventions which are usually just hot air sessions in resort areas that aren't absolutely necessary. There are probably some trips that are needed to request funding and such but usually that is not the norm. I would have no problem with the council's actions if they were genuine and consistent with previous administration's requests and being fiscally responsible, but that is not the case. There were numerous frivolous unnecessary requests paid previously and some paid after the fact without prior approval in the past administration. So it's all about politics....

I get accused of being staunch Mike Moore supporter that is not the case. Moore has handled the constant bickering poorly and sophomoric, he should have never sent the vindictive text message. He should take his political defeats and move on .Moore has an open dislike for the Council in general and seemingly several members personally and the feeling is mutual. He has done himself no favors by his open criticism of the council and generally in a lot of instances trying to circumvent their authority but it works both ways, Councilperson Sellers has no business running to the press, or political cronies  (like a child running to the teacher) with personal texts she received from the mayor. These are just foolish wastes of time, effort
and taxpayers money with these unprofessional antics.

Hey we taxpayers get it you all don't like each other, but how about putting that aside and do what you were elected to do.  Quit clowning around !!!

Galligan New Democratic Party Chairman ???

According to NHBSM Tom Galligan will be named the new Clark Co. Dem. Party Chairman replacing Bob Bottoroff who is stepping down. If this is true, (NHBSM doesn't always tell the truth) the the local Democrats are taking another  giant step backward in Clark Co.. Once again the Dems are putting one of their dinosaurs who have been rejected by the voting public in a place of importance in the party. Just as  when "Toxic" John Perkins was appointed (not elected) as County Commissioner the Democrats are thumbing their noses at the rank and file voters, the backbone and lifeblood of the party.

While the Republican party continues to make huge advances locally with fresh, young, and attractive candidates and solid leadership the Dem.'s don't have a clue and continue on with the "good ole boy days" in the positions of leadership. The Dem.s have the potential with some exciting  candidates of their own but until they put the "old" horses
Old Democrat
(Galligan, Perkins, Pepper Cooper etc.)  out to pasture the Rep.s will continue to make significant inroads in Clark Co. Galligan , Perkins and company have left a bad taste in the mouths of voters and a new generation of voters is coming forward.

The Batblog thought Bottoroff was a step in the right direction but for whatever reason he is stepping down. It's time for a another younger Democrat with leadership abilities to step forward and save the party from further embarrassment and defeat at the polls. Our fear though is that the "old" dogs have firmly entrenched their cronies into positions that will continue this travesty on the voters. Political history is filled with old men whose egos won't allow themselves to step aside and allow the younger generation to step forward, much to the detriment of the voting public and progress.....

******************************************************************************************************************************************

I thought Matt on the CCC summed it up pretty well....

Posted Today, 01:31 AM

Doesn't this have to be voted on the same as last time when Bob was put in after Rod Pate stepped down? A little presumptive to assume he will be the only one. If so, this will be a giant step backwards for the party. The bully attitude doesn't work anymore. Times have changed....the candidates offered by the Democratic party has not. The Republican party is laughing all the way to the polls.

    On Hunting, Hunters and Animals

The last couple of posts about hunting and fishing rights and Biker Dude losing one of his pets stirred some thoughts on hunting and hunters. When I was younger and having been brought up in a hunting family , I hunted extensively (deer, rabbit, squirrel). It was ingrained in me, just something that was done. As I grew older and I guess more aware, I became more sensitive to life I found hunting to be less and less sporting, interesting and enjoyable. Some would probably say soft, but I found it distasteful to take the life of a living creature.

While hunting was necessitated out of a need to provide food in early days of man that is not so much the necessity today. Over the years I've found that a lot of hunters have the macho obsession of killing being manly and just for the sake of shooting something, the food is an after thought and actually not important.

Of course I get it cows, pigs, chickens are killed daily to provide food, and for safety and preservation the deer population probably needs to be thinned and regulated. I just have over time developed a distaste for hunters that sit in their little heated cabins waiting for an innocent deer to wander by in order to blow it away with high powered rifles with powerful scopes, I just see no sport in that....I just see the beauty and gracefulness of a deer or all wildlife for that matter.

On the same behalf I haven't achieved the same affinity for fish. I love fishing and the outdoors and there nothing like frying up fresh catch after a day on the lake. Looking in the eyes of a fish just isn't the same as the eyes of a deer. Sorry about that fish ...I just don't feel same about you...Bon Apetite'

Our Politicians Worry too Much about Gay Marriage, Hunting and Fishing

The Story Legislators Debate Click Here

Our politicians especially our State legislator worry to much. We have a bunch worrying that a gay or lesbian couple might actually want to get married in Indiana. To quote my friend Goliath "my heathen gawds"  that would be then end of the world wouldn't it, Indiana would be disgraced, imagine people of the same sex who love each other wanting to get married here. We can't be having that they cried this is Indiana where men is men and women is women but you can't be marrying one of your own kind that ain't natural...that's what goes on in those freak states like San Francisco....

So now we got a bunch of new worriers in the State house. They worried that if we start allowing them gays and lesbo's to marry what comes next. They might want to ban our huntin and fishin we need to get a law to protect our rights, lets vote on it.  We can't have them weirdos take away our heated shacks where we wait smothered in deer scent waiting for Bambi to walk up so we can blow her away with our big guns with scopes that you can see a gnat's ass from 150 yards. that there's sport. So they worry away, some might even fear those weirdo liberals might want to start marrying our deer (the 4 legged kind).... dang weirdos.

Well as HT sees it them politicians worrying too much. If a woman wants to marry another woman, a man wants to marry a man,  or deer (4 legged kind) or even his goat (as long as he loves him) let them go for it. Hell married men and women have been making themselves miserable for years. What's the divorce rate about 50% so heterosexual couples ain't exactly good at it ...let them others take a shot at it....and in Indiana if they want to...

And you politicians ain't you got something more important to worry about like taxes, jobs stuff that really matters.....

    The Price of Progress ???

    This
The Ohio River Bridges Project is certainly needed but nonetheless is creating major traffic headaches for local residents. My everyday excursions across the river are limited now as I near total retirement, but I really feel for those who have to make that journey daily on these construction laden roadways. I guess it's progress , though for the next 6 years it will be a major pain in the ass. Jeffersonville is already straggling behind in improvements to the traffic infra-structure and the added delays from bridge construction  make it a nightmare in almost any direction you travel across or through town.
    Or this ???

Holman Ln. once a sleepy narrow country road has now become the main through fare for those heading to Clarksville and all the retail development it provides, and Holman's is totally inadequate to handle the increase. The industrial explosion at River Ridge has made traveling Hwy. 62 a journey now with only more traffic to come with the continual growth at River Ridge. Ahhh isn't progress great !!  I'm glad I'll soon be sitting in my boat on Hardy Lake waiting to pull in a big bluegill, having avoided all the mess by leaving at 4:30 am. Quiet solitude in the early morning miles away from the so called progress...... ain't that grand...

Clark Co. Cost Savings Measures and Fund Raising...

Brother Can You Spare A Dime...
With a slew of expected civil lawsuits being expected because of  alleged right's violations by Clark Co. courts. The BatBlog has heard rumors that Co. leaders are huddled considering some cost saving measures and fund raising to finance the monetary impact of these pending suits. Since the county is damn near broke already, drastic measures are in order. Here are a few rumored solutions.

    1. Tolling ever road in Clark Co. - to alleviate the cost of toll booths County Jail inmates in their bright orange jumpsuits will be assigned roads and given a bucket...Preliminary charges being considered $1.00 residents... out of state $2.00... each way...

    2. Entry fees (cover charges) at County Courthouse and all Co. buildings and parking lots - $2.50 per person/ family rates also available....

    3. Used clothing drive - donation boxes at all Co. properties - clothing will be collected and then auctioned off this spring at date and location determined later....

    4. Panhandling - Every County employee (officeholders included)  must donate 4 hours a month to
panhandle in front of County offices  - permit required -------------------------------------------------------->

    5. Shop for a Cop - you've heard of Shop with a Cop program lets go one step farther to help the Co. sheriff's dept. Take a cop out buy him  a uniform, firearm , handcuffs or even just a box of donuts and a large coffee, to help alleviate the budget problem.

    6. Weekend Bingos - Open up the Co. courtrooms to weekend bingos, have the judges call numbers ....

    7. Dunking booths - Put our Clark Co. politicians in a dunking booth on a rotating schedule, include Sheriff deputies as well. You can stop by and attempt to dunk your least favorite politician or that Deputy who gave you a traffic ticket...$1.00 per throw....

    8. Close the Clark Co. jail... free the inmates or send them to Floyd Co. probably over half should have already been released anyway...Eliminates lawsuits....

    9. Legalize and start selling all the confiscated marijuana (if there is any left that the Sheriff's Dept. hasn't
already smoked) Sell it on the sidewalk in front of the courthouse. 10% discount for drug court employees and all judges...

!0. Once the jail is empty rent it out for slumber, birthday, bachelor/ bachelorette parties or holidays....hire a photographer for pictures....a caterer, and clowns...sell balloons and Clark Co. jail t-shirts

Politics and Politicians Part II .... Local Politicians

Don't get me wrong in the many years of observing, participating and voting in the local political scene I have met and knew some true public servants, that were sincere in serving the public, wanting to make a difference, and improving this area. Richard "Rich" Vissing (D) (mayor of Jeffersonville),  Dick Wathen (R) (State Rep.) and  Lee Hamilton (D) (Congressmen 9th Dist.) come quickly to mind from my early days of the political experience as selfless, humble men who led by example and who truly cared about constituents ideas and opinions. Dale Orem (R). former mayor of Jeffersonville was another who impressed me. There are others of course but these have stood out for me.

Unfortunately for every one those good public servants you have a disproportionate amount of self absorbed political hacks. Who like to be in parades, hear themselves pontificate and feel important. In other words in it for themselves, not you and I. Locally we've had our share over the years personified by "do it my way or the highway" guys like Tom Galligan and "Toxic" John Perkins both legends in their own minds. Smug,  self absorbed , who were both advanced only by the out of touch local Democrat machine with all of it's mostly dysfunctional and outdated players. Thank goodness we've moved forward somewhat...Perkins will be put out to pasture after this upcoming election to join Galligan who now mostly just sits on insignificant boards to prop up  his ego, put their by cronies he amassed over the years.

Are we doomed politically here locally ???  Not entirely the GOP has risen from nowhere to put some nice candidates into office recently.  The jury is still out as politics has a tendency to swallow up and taint even the most promising new office holders. I had a lot of good feelings about Mike Moore originally ,but personal problems and the constant back and forth between him and the Stooges on the City Council have lessened his potential. There is some good new blood on the City Council, all the new members the last elected other than Julius have at times impressed me. Unfortunately the leadership of the Council are the holdover Galligan fossils plus Julius who are more intent on political maneuvering that maneuvering the City forward.

The County also placed some vibrancy into the political scene locally I've really been impressed by Rick
Stephenson, Kelly Khuri, Brian Lenfert , Susan Popp and Steve Doherty. These people really have their work cut out for them with the botched efforts of former office holders before them who have put the financial situation into nearly disastrous levels to go along with mandates and the drug court fiasco which is yet to play out.

Moving  forward if we are to elect and keep solid, honest leaders and office holders who are there to serve us, we  the public especially the younger people have to get more involved, more participation, and better educated about who we are electing. I have seen this starting to improve recently, unfortunately not as much in my party the Democrats.

Politics and Politicians Part I... Local Politics

After I proofread this I didn't realize how dark and pessimistic it was when I wrote it. Hell it sounds like The State and National Forum of the Clark County Chatter. There are some good politicians/public servants here locally and I will touch on them later in Parts II and III(?). So bear with the dark tone it does get better....

    Local Politics and Elections

With the County primaries just around the corner and this being an election year I thought I would touch on "Politics and Politicians." Politician is probably the only job in America that requires no qualifications (other than age requirements for some national offices) no experience,no training, and no know how. In some states you are not even required to have a law degree to be a judge. That's right in some states it's easier to be a judge than a cosmetologist.  In most cases, especially in local politics, the election is a popularity contest between candidates who can kiss the most asses, while smiling and pretending  to people  that they care about our opinions and what we think....  It really helps to have a common name and have had one your relatives before you (with the same name) that has held office previously. It doesn't matter if your dumber than a rock, if you have several of the above mentioned things going for you more than likely "You're Elected"....

    After Being Elected

Now that they are elected and again I'm speaking of local politicians (national politics later). Most become the smartest (in their own mind), most knowledgeable (again in their own mind) about every facet and area of government. Not only that, but remember how important "your" opinion was when they were pandering for your vote, well all of a sudden it's not that important anymore. And all that time they took answering your questions or just talking  pre-election ,  well now they don't have the time and they'll get back with you on that. Plus because they are elected now , the automatically know what's best for you and your community,  because they are privy to information that you can't understand or aware of. Yeah it's a whole different ballgame.... campaign time and after election.

    My View

Your probably thinking well he's got a cynical view of things. You're damn right I do, because I've met and been condescended to by too many arrogant elected officials and politicians over the years. I  am a pretty good judge and have a pretty good feel for people, and I can count on less than two hands the sincere , public servants that are genuine about what they are doing and really care about the individual voter. Most that I have met are in it to satisfy their own  self inflated egos and try and  magnify  their self exaggerated sense of importance.

I know you're thinking what a negative tone, and bitterness. Well I speak from the heart and my experiences but I will lighten things up a little bit tomorrow or when I continue this,  due to time constraints later
I will touch upon individual politicians and have actually some good things to say about some of  them, others not so much...

    END PART I

It's Only Just Begun - Lawsuits and Tort Claims against Clark Co.

From the News/ Tribune  Click Here . Well the lawsuits and tort claims are starting to come in , the latest a $750,000 tort claim by drug court participant Cody Hendrick. As we get more and more into this thing and more information comes out  it looks like the whole damn system (Jacobi, drug court employees and board, sheriff's Dept., prosecutor's office) are at least partially to blame for this mess as it moves forward. Mr. Kendrick's attorney claims after his client was released from his alleged illegal arrest, the Clark Co. Circuit Co. didn't release the original warrant causing Mr. Hendrick to being rearrested in Jefferson Co. Ky. on the warrant that should have been released earlier. We are seeing total incompetence all the way up and down the judicial, prosecutor, and penal systems. People are not doing their jobs that we pay our hard earned tax dollars for them to do. What's the answer ??? and How is Clark Co. going to pay these lawsuits and the huge attorney's fees that will go along with them ???
